A case of progressive supranuclear palsy in a 66-year-old woman is presented. The patient complained of“progressive stiffness of both lower limbs for five years, accompanied by choking and coughing for more than 1 year,”and was diagnosed with paralysis in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),which was characterized by a deficiency of liver and kidney, and phlegm and blood stasis blocking the collaterals.Western medicine diagnosed it as progressive supranuclear palsy. The patient was diagnosed with“Parkinson’s disease”several times in the past and was given“polybasic hydrazide”and“amantadine hydrochloride tablets,”etc. The patient did not have significant symptomatic relief,so she sought further treatment with a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine.Based on the concept of deficiency and excess, this disease is categorized as a paralytic disease in Chinese medicine, and the onset of the disease is closely related to the deficiency of the body after a long period of illness, with wind, phlegm, blood stasis, and deficiency as the main pathogenetic mechanism. The treatment is based on the combination of disease and evidence, with traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture as the main treatments, supplemented by intermediate-frequency pulsed electrical stimulation, transcranial repetitive magnetic stimulation, medicated canisters, wax therapy, traditional Chinese medicine guasha, and acupoint injections.Western medicine is based on symptomatic treatment, and the patient’s symptoms were relieved significantly after the combination of Chinese and Western medicine. 展开更多

Chinese culture “going global” is an inevitable requirement for China’s economic and social development. As an important part of Chinese traditional culture, the dissemination of Confucian thought is just the spread of Chinese culture. Therefore, the spread of Chinese Confucian thought abroad is also the key to Chinese culture “going global”.However, there are some cultural hinders between China and the West due to the differences in cultures. On the basis of summarizing Confucius and Socrates’ thoughts, this paper analyzes their essence of thoughts by contrast, which represent the eastern and Western cultures respectively. From the perspective of cross-cultural communication, the paper adopts the methods of multiculturalism, criticism and down-to-earth attitudes to deal with Chinese and Western cultures in order to make Chinese go global and share China’s wisdom with the world. 展开更多

Objective: To test the therapeutic effect of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine on venous ulcer of lower limbs by Meta analysis method, and then to propose the best clinical treatment scheme. Methods: Domestic databases in the past 20 years (January 1999-December 2019) were searched by computer, including China Journal Full-text Database (CNKI), VIP, Wanfang and CBM. Literature was screened according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Cochrane risk assessment tool was used to evaluate the quality of the included literature. Two-classification method was used to extract data. RevMan 5.3 software was used to make statistical analysis of the data. Results: Eleven articles were finally included, totaling 1,576 patients, 804 cases in the treatment group and 772 cases in the control group. Meta-analysis results show that there is no difference in heterogeneity and bias among the included literatures. The total effective rate (risk ratio [RR]=1.12, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.09-1.15) of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine in treating venous ulcer of lower limbs is higher, which is obviously better than that of western medicine alone. Conclusion: Through data analysis, it is concluded that in the study population, the treatment of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine has a significant effect on venous ulcer of lower limbs. Make up for the deficiency of simple western medicine treatment, improve the cure rate and reduce the recurrence rate. However, there is currently a lack of relevant high-quality literature, so a large sample size, rigorous and standardized experimental design and randomized double-blind clinical study are needed to further test the conclusions. 展开更多

AIM: To observe the therapeutic effects of new traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy on coagulation disorder and accompanying intractable jaundice in HBV-related liver cirrhosis patients. METHODS: Using stratified random sampling according to fibrinogen (Fib) levels,145 liver cirrhosis patients due to hepatitis B complicated by coagulation disorder were treated. Of them,70 in research group were treated with TCM by "nourishing yin, cooling blood and invigorating blood circulation" and Western medicine,75 in control group were treated with conventional Western medicine. The indexes of liver function, coagulation function and bleeding events were observed and compared. RESULTS: The prothrombin time (PT) was shorter and the fibrinogen (Fib) level was higher in the research group than in the control group (Fib = 1.6-2.0 g/L,1.1-1.5 g/L,and ≤ 1.0 g/L). The total bilirubin (TBIL) level was significantly lower in the research group than in the control group, except for the subgroup of FIB ≤ 1.0 g/L.
