Reflections on the EFL Reading Comprehension Teaching for English Majors in China

Reading can serve as a vehicle for learning a second language and as a result enhancing reading ability in that language. How to teach reading has been a contentious issue in TESOL/TEFL research. After reviewing the theories on reading and the research on how to teach reading as its theoretical basis, this paper reflects on the teaching of EFL reading comprehension for English majors in China about its situation and problems and discusses some pedagogical solutions to the problems.

Discourse Comprehension and Reading Strategies for Freshmen of Non-English Majors

This paper firstly discusses the nature of discourse comprehesion,and then analyzes the importance of reading strategy instructionon reading comprehension. Finally,it presents some useful approaches to help freshmen of non-English majors read effectively.

Sound-changes in Connected Speech and the Improvement of Listening Comprehension For NonEnglish Majors

It is well known that most Chinese nonEnglish majors can't understand the English materials they have heard,but they do understand them if the materials are in written form.Though there may be a lot of reasons (Such as phonological and psychological ones),this paper covers the influence of sound changes in connected speech upon the learners' listening comprehension.Non-English majors can improve their listening comprehension,to some degrees,by getting familiar with and being practiced in sound-changes in a flow of speech,with the help of a good attitude towards sound-changes in English speeches.

VOCABULARY TEACHING FOR NON—ENGLISH MAJORS

Introduction "How can we enlarge the students’ vocabulary?" This is a very essential problem in the teaching of Enslish as a foreign language for non-English majors in our college. Firstly, their English level is low, They are not only lack of linguistic patterns, grammar rules, but also vocabulary, Secondly, they have only three hours of intensive reading every week, They should pass 2-grade college English examination through two years studying of English. Thirdly, botn the teachers and students are in very passive position in English language teaching and learning. Almost every lesson begins with vocabulary, then text reading comprehension, and exercises, which based on the traditional method.

Needs Analysis of Non-English Majors Taking Business English as An Optional Course

The course design of business English as an optional course to Non-English majors should be based on needs analysis.A survey is conducted in the form of a questionnaire in this paper to find out about the needs of the non-English majors taking the course.Implications are provided for the future course design of business English as an optional course.

Material Evaluation on Century Business English Comprehensive Course

The paper reports a survey on material evaluation on Century Business English comprehensive course of 80 students of Business English majors in Normal College.The survey covers students’and teachers’opinions and suggestions of the CBE.The result is helpful for Business English teachers to effectively improve the students’Business English learning.

English Learning Strategies for Design Major Students based on the Background of "MOOC"

The importance of English in international cultural communication is self-evident. In order to improve the quality of students' English learning and reduce the pressure on the students of design major to learn English, relevant English educators have put forward a new type of teaching method, "admiration course". With the continuous development and improvement of the "Move course", the traditional English learning methods have been obviously improved. The elimination of the inappropriate teaching methods and the use of "Mo-fu" as the teaching means have to a certain extent promoted the development of English education in colleges and universities. Based on the development of Mooc course, this paper briefly describes the changing strategies and applicability of English learning for design major students.

The Effect of Dictation Practice on Listening Comprehension of Non-English Major Undergraduates

This paper aims to explore the effectiveness of dictation practice in improving non-English major undergraduates listening comprehension.35 students were selected into the experiment.For the comparison of the experimental data,we found that students'listening comprehension do improved after 12 weeks training while some other implications also were discussed for further study in order to promote listening teaching and learning.

A Comparative Analysis of Sino-Thai College English Course Teaching——A Case of Comparison between Jiujiang University and Chiang Mai University

English is one of the most common languages in the world,and it has become one of the most important subjects in various countries.The native languages of China and Thailand are not English,and both countries are located in Asia and have many similarities in geographical location and cultural background.The Ministries of Education of the two countries have successively put forward relevant policies to promote the development of English education in the country.The implementation of these policies has promoted the development of college English course teaching in the country.These factors determine that the two countries have similarities in college English course teaching for Non-English majors.However,there are differences in teaching mode and teaching staff in the two countries because of their different national conditions,which make many differences,exist in college English course teaching for non-English majors in the two countries.During the author’s career as an exchange student in Chiang Mai University,she experienced the difference of college English course teaching for non-English majors in Thai universities,so the author did some researches on the basis of the understanding of English course teaching in Thai universities.Therefore,this thesis takes Sino-Thai college English course teaching for non-English majors as the research object—takes Jiujiang University and Chiang Mai University as example,and analyses their present situation from the aspects of the development and evolution,the teaching mode,and teaching staff of college English course teaching for non-English majors.On this basis,the author makes a comparative analysis of the English course teaching for non-English majors in two selected universities,then find their respective advantages and disadvantages,and put forward some suggestions on the development of Sino-Thai college English course teaching.

Listening Strategies in English Listening Comprehension of College Students

Listening is playing a fundamental role in foreign language learning.This thesis aims at finding the major problems con-fronting students in listening comprehension of non-English majors and the total usage of listening strategies,hoping to providesome useful suggestions for college English listening teaching and learning.The result shows that the biggest problem students con-fronted is vocabulary and the overall strategy use by students is at a medium frequency level.At last,specific suggestions are pro-vided for both students and English teachers based on the result of this research.

Towards an Understanding of Situated Learning:Students' Perceptions in an Interpretation Course

Situated learning approach has been applied in various teaching contexts, and increasing advocations have been shown in the particular context of language teaching. This study applied situated learning appoach in the interpretation course of college English major students and is designed to gain the students' perception of stuated learning. From the study, it is found that most of the students showed their positive attitudes towards situated learning approach applied in their interpretation course and enjoyed their learning in such learning enviroment. However, there is still a long way to go to achieve their satisfaction. Teachers need to explore more for creating authentic atmosphere in the interpretation course to arise students' interest and passion to a greater degree.

以核心能力培养为导向的英语专业文学课程教学路径探索与实践

2018年教育部颁发的《普通高等学校本科专业类教学质量国家标准》(以下简称《国家标准》)对外语专业人才需要具备的能力提出了新的要求。本文在对《国家标准》提出的外语专业人才核心能力,即外语运用能力、文学赏析能力、跨文化能力和思辨能力的内涵及关系研究基础上,提出了以文学作品为载体,以提高文学赏析能力为首要目标,以“文学知识积累+文学作品研读+文学批评+评价与判断”为具体内容的英语专业文学课程教学模式,以期为提高外语专业人才培养质量提供一条可供借鉴和操作的路径。

成果导向教育理念下的课程思政路径研究——以英语专业核心课程为例

课程思政是新时代振兴本科教育与提高人才培养能力的重要着力点,成果导向教育理念是本科教育教学改革的主流教学思路。遵循成果导向教育理念的反向设计、学生中心和持续改进三个关键因素,分析英语专业核心课程思政教学目标的设置、教学内容融入思政教育的切入点、达成目标的教学组织形式以及教学评价方式,以期达成语言知识传授、语言应用能力培养、价值观塑造与社会需求相融合的“四位一体”的人才培养目标。

文化自信视角下英语专业写作课程思政路径研究

高等学校的外语课堂上,学生在学习语言知识的同时,亦会在此过程中接触到西方的意识形态和文化价值观。为了防范西方意识形态和文化对当代大学生的隐形渗透,在外语教育中应该贯彻落实课程思政,帮助学生树立正确的价值观念。文章从英语专业写作教学目标、教学内容与评估方式出发,系统地阐述了在英语专业写作的教学实践中如何将专业知识与思政元素有机融合,以达到对学生进行专业技能的训练和通过思政教育帮助学生树立文化自信的目的,为外语教学课程思政提供借鉴。

“美国研究”课程对英语专业学生专业能力的影响研究

随着中华文化“走出去”战略和“一带一路”倡议的不断推进,社会迫切需要通晓相关国家社会、文化、政治、法律、贸易和金融等领域的涉外人才。为了更好地满足国家的人才需求,东北某高校在英语专业本科阶段开展了英语国家研究课程的改革探索。研究采用定性研究和定量研究相结合的方法,借助问卷调查和半结构化访谈采集数据,重点关注了“美国研究”课程对学生专业能力的影响。研究发现:“美国研究”课程对学生的英语语言综合运用能力和文学赏析能力、跨文化交流能力、学习能力、科研能力产生了不同程度的积极影响。此外,研究还发现学生存在着跨文化交流实践不足、不善调整学习策略和不善运用学术理论等问题,并针对这些问题提出了改进建议。研究结果可为改进区域国别研究课程的教学带来启示。

新文科背景下高校综合英语教学的人文主义建构

在倡导交叉学科的新文科背景和产出导向教育理念之下,高校英语专业教学不仅要求学生习得扎实的语言技能,还应具备一定的人文素养。教师如何有效教学、如何使学生领悟文本之外的人文内涵则成为值得思考的问题。本文聚焦英语专业一二年级核心必修课综合英语课程教改方向,以语言为基础、人文为精髓、学生为主导的“三位一体”的课程模式为目标,要求教师在教学过程中重视传递人文主义精髓,使学生意识到“综合性”不仅在于听、说、读、写、译能力,更在于将英语的工具理性和人文精神相融合。因此,英语专业课堂应当建构以学生为主导的,多元化、丰富化和人文化为特征的英语教育,从而使学生保持批判性思维,能够持续学习并有所创新。

艺术类专业大学英语一流课程建设研究与实践--基于新文科大外语背景

在“新文科大外语”背景下,针对国家对高水平艺术人才培养目标的需求变化,艺术类院校大学英语课程改革的核心任务是一流课程建设研究与实践。文章通过对艺术类院校大学英语课程改革现状的深入调查与分析,提出了改革的具体路径:明确课程教学目标、合理构建课程结构体系、推进教材建设、提高教师专业素养、创新教育教学方式、完善课程评价体系等。并强调,艺术类大学英语一流课程建设应坚持“立德树人”的价值导向,推动大学英语课程的改革创新,以及与其他专业课程互通互融,探索并构建中国特色的艺术类大学英语课程改革的之路。

英语专业翻译课程思政建设研究

本文以马克思的人的全面发展学说和布鲁姆的教育目标分类学为理论基础,探讨英语专业翻译课程思政建设的重要性。通过对武汉市部分高校的调查进行分析,识别当前思政建设中存在的主要问题,并提出切实可行的优化策略。研究表明,翻译课程对学生的世界观、人生观、价值观的塑造具有深远影响,特别是在中华优秀传统文化“走出去”战略和“一带一路”倡议背景下,具有不可替代的作用。通过有效的思政建设,翻译课程能够增强学生的文化自信,培养学生的国际视野,促进他们成为具有社会责任感的复合型人才。
