From the Subjectivity of Human Rights to the Universality of Human Rights——A Preliminary Interpretation of the Theory on the Subjectivity of Human Rights

Universality is one of the essential characteristics of human rights, but there is a substantive difference between idealism and realism in understanding the concept of universality of human rights. The concepts of radical universality and strong universality based on the concept of natural human rights are too idealistic and thus have a high risk of being alienated into a tool of international re-pression in practice. On the contrary, the theory on the subjectivity of human rights can effectively defuse this risk brought about by radical universality and strong universality. Advocating a transition from the universality of human rights to the subjectivity of human rights not only keeps in line with the actual construction process of international human rights, but can also effectively interpret the practical difficul-ties in the realization process of international human rights. Therefore, it can be used as another alternative theory on human rights beyond the theory of natural human rights.

DEBRA: On the Unsupervised Learning of Concept Hierarchies from (Literary) Text

With this work, we introduce a novel method for the unsupervised learning of conceptual hierarchies, or concept maps as they are sometimes called, which is aimed specifically for use with literary texts, as such distinguishing itself from the majority of research literature on the topic which is primarily focused on building ontologies from a vast array of different types of data sources, both structured and unstructured, to support various forms of AI, in particular, the Semantic Web as envisioned by Tim Berners-Lee. We first elaborate on mutually informing disciplines of philosophy and computer science, or more specifically the relationship between metaphysics, epistemology, ontology, computing and AI, followed by a technically in-depth discussion of DEBRA, our dependency tree based concept hierarchy constructor, which as its name alludes to, constructs a conceptual map in the form of a directed graph which illustrates the concepts, their respective relations, and the implied ontological structure of the concepts as encoded in the text, decoded with standard Python NLP libraries such as spaCy and NLTK. With this work we hope to both augment the Knowledge Representation literature with opportunities for intellectual advancement in AI with more intuitive, less analytical, and well-known forms of knowledge representation from the cognitive science community, as well as open up new areas of research between Computer Science and the Humanities with respect to the application of the latest in NLP tools and techniques upon literature of cultural significance, shedding light on existing methods of computation with respect to documents in semantic space that effectively allows for, at the very least, the comparison and evolution of texts through time, using vector space math.

Hawthorne's Pursuit of an Ideal Harmony——A Case Study of the Image of Forest in Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter

As a masterpiece of Hawthorne's works, The Scarlet Letter sets up on New England in the seventieth century and successfully depicts the cruelty of Puritan society and the kill to human nature. However, it seems that this is not the only purpose for the author to criticize the Puritanism. Hawthorne also endeavors to pursuit an ideal harmony through the image of the forest,which is omitted by most of the scholars who research Hawthorne's works, especially for The Scarlet Letter. In this thesis, it aims to illustrate the ideal harmony from two perspectives: first, the image of the forest stands for the harmony of the primitive life; second, the image of the forest represents the harmony of the development both in body and mind.

The concept of"human"is essential in bioethics.Generally speaking,the concept of"human"is related to the identity of personality.This paper systematically discusses the concept of"personality identity"and"human"by Locke,Parfit and Kant.In comparison,Locke views self-awareness or reason as the key element of any appropriate concepts of"human".On the basis of Locke's viewpoint,Parfit makes explanation of the identity of personality,and points out that personality identity should be connected with physical and psychological continuity.This view has been a progress but still has a utility thought.Therefore,the understanding of the concept of"human"is not entirely out of its species,and should be deeply based on our own as the main body of the concept.

Discussion on Action and Potential of Fenlong Megascience in the Symbiosis between Human and Nature

The fourth new farming model Fenlong is identified as megascience for the first time. Fenlong is not restricted to global application by ecological region and crop variety and is not subject to the time-space constraints for a hundred thousand years. On the basis of utilizing the heaven and earth resources, it brings about a huge effect of mega- science. Compare with traditional farming, the depth under the mode of Fenlong is increased by 2-3 times, the contents of nutrient, water, oxygen and microorganism in the soil are increased by 10%-200%, the content of pale salt is increased by 20%-40%, the temperature is increased by 2-4 ~C, and the photosynthetic efficiency of crops is improved by 10%. Under the cultivation mode of Fenlong, the yield of crop applied with no fertilizers is increased by more than 10%, crop yield is still in- creased by more than 5% when the application amount of chemical fertilizer is re- duced by 10%-20%. Under the farming mode of Fenlong combined with no in- crease in fertilization, the crop yield, crop quality, farming efficiency, natural precipi- tation storage and air humidity are increased by 10%-50%, 5%, 15%, 100% and 5%, respectively, and the emissions of methane and other gases are reduced by more than 5%. Even in mortar black soil, saline alkali land and degraded grassland, the yield is still increased by 15%-50%. These improvement effects can last for many years, helping achieve the real harmonious coexistence between human and nature.

Study on the Epistemology Development of the Correlation between Human Beings and Nature

This study aimed to alert people that the harmony between human beings and nature has already become an urgent problem. All people are responsible for maintaining the harmony, which is the also the inexorable trend of historical development. Reviewing the evolution history of human kind, the relationship between human beings and nature from harmony to imbalance, from imbalance to a new harmony was analyzed from the macro perspective, and it was pointed out that the present society is in the transitional phase from imbalance to a new harmony and also a phase that people are consciously coordinating their relationship with nature. It was found through the study that a harmonious society relies on the harmony between human beings and nature, and the latter is a necessary condition for a real harmonious society, however, people always forget such a principle. This article is the memoirs of the author’s long-time research on the Neo-Confucian history of the Chosun dynasty Korea.The author recalled his academic achievement of the several stages of the historical changes of Korean society with the Neo-Confucianism.The time range covered from the late 14th century to the nineteenth century.The research position was adhered to the view of the positive function of Confucianism which aimed to overcome the negative understanding highly influenced by the Japanese colonialism.He examined the socio-economic development accompanied with the Neo-Confucianism at the first stage.In the part of the sixteenth century the formation of Sarim group was interpreted as critical forces and the prevailed factionalism as the principle of politics rather than the chronic political strife.The author introduced his unique achievement that the ideology of the Neo-Confucianism had been strongly intensified with the response to the long term natural catastrophes of the Little Ice Age(c.1490-1760).The republican concept of 18th-century impartial rulers,the most important achievement of Korean Neo-Confucianism,was viewed as the result of effort to overcome the natural disasters.This topic was connected to the concept of republic which shows in a diagram of the Korean national flag.
