The poor and unfriendly infrastructure at health facilities is the core challenge for people with physical disabilities in accessing healthcare. This study aimed to explore at what extent the existing infrastructure and design of health facilities in Singida rural district, Tanzania supports people with physical disabilities to access healthcare. Methods: A cross sectional health facility-based assessment of all thirty-two functioning health facilities in the district was done between June and December 2020 using observational checklist and key informants’ interviews consist of measurement procedures of the architectural condition of health facilities. Observation checklist was designed based on standard of health facilities in Tanzania, national guideline for safe care standards for dispensaries, health centers and district hospital of 2014 and national guideline for water, sanitation and hygiene in healthcare facilities of 2017. Data were analyzed by SPSS-26 using descriptive statistics to obtain frequencies tables, percentage and figure. Qualitative data were analyzed by using NVivo-12 software. Results: The study revealed that there was no signage, entrance area, parking and toilets designated for people with physical disabilities in all health facilities. There was no special seat, examination table/bed and special weight scale for people with physical disabilities in all facilities. Also, the doors were not wide enough to support wheelchair user to maneuver in all health centers and dispensaries. In addition, door handles were not user friendly for wheelchair users. In fact, only the hospital and health centers had wheelchairs while 27 (96.4%) of all dispensaries had no wheelchairs. Furthermore, ramp and pathways were not available in all dispensaries. All health facilities had stairs but the challenge was most of the staircases had no floor located before the steps. Conclusion: The study revealed that the infrastructures in most healthcare facilities pose challenges to people with physical disabilities when they access healthcare services. These findings call for need of improving health facilities’ infrastructure to accommodate people with physical disabilities and this should be given a priority.展开更多

Geriatric Health Service Facilities (GHSFs) are highlighted as some of the chosen facilities designated as sites of death. The aim of our study was to clarify the characteristics and related factors, including physical signs first noticed by staff at the end-of-life period, in GHSFs designated as sites of death, using a nationwide survey in Japan. We administered a questionnaire to 3971 GHSFs in Japan. Eligible responses for the study were obtained from 854 GHSFs. We found that GHSFs designated as sites of death were more likely to have basic policies and documented preferences regarding end-of-life care. We also found that staff members in GHSFs designated as sites of death were less likely to first notice physical signs of pain. We found that GHSFs designated as sites of death tended to identify earlier symptoms, such as reduced oral intake and less vigor. Our results would enable elderly persons, their families, and staff in GHSFs to prepare for the elderly’s death more efficiently though earlier identification of the end-of-life period. We hope that GHSFs have an important role to play in end-of-life care provision to elderly persons in Japan, through the strengthening of these intermediate facilities.展开更多

The high-fidelity simulation of actual structures poses challenges to model building and quality control. Such models can be used to collect wideazimuth, multi-azimuth, and full-azimuth seismic data that can be used to verify various 3D processing and interpretation methods. Faced with nonideal imaging problems owing to the extensive complex surface conditions and subsurface structures in the oil-rich foreland basins of western China, we designed and built the KS physical model based on the complex subsurface structure. This is the largest and most complex 3D physical model built to date. The physical modeling technology advancements mainly involve 1) the model design method, 2) the model casting flow, and 3) data acquisition. A 3D velocity model of the physical model was obtained for the first time, and the model building precision was quantitatively analyzed. The absolute error was less than 3 mm, which satisfies the experimental requirements. The 3D velocity model obtained from 3D measurements of the model layers is the basis for testing various imaging methods. Furthermore, the model is considered a standard in seismic physical modeling technology.展开更多

Participants were 80,928 school children(Grades 4–12; 39,747 boys, 41,181 girls; mean age = 13 years) and 935 physical education(PE) teachers who completed a study survey.Independent variables included both school-related factors(school-level PA support, availability of and access to PA facilities, and the duration of school PE classes) and community-related factors(the frequency of sports events, sports training opportunities, availability of sports clubs and organizations, and access to PA facilities). The dependent variable was the children's self-reported participation in MVPA. The data were analyzed,in 2017, via multilevel modeling. Results: PA support from school administrators was the only school-level factor significantly related to children's participation in MVPA.Children's perceptions of the frequency of community-sponsored sports events, availability of sports clubs and organizations, and convenient access to PA facilities were associated with a high level of MVPA participation. In regard to residency in urban and rural areas, children attending urban schools who perceived high availability of PA facilities were associated with a low level of participation in MVPA.Conclusion: School support for PA and community PA resources are associated with MVPA among Chinese school children. School PA facilities appear underutilized among urban schools as evidenced by low levels of MVPA among school children.展开更多

This happens mainly because of a gap that exists between engineering and psychology fields, with the first developing planning tools for production but with little concern for creativity and the other developing spaces for creativity, but with a lack of tools. Both try to solve the same issue: fostering productivity in the workplace, but they need to be linked first, in order to accomplish it. How to close this gap? Can a project manager plan the facilities for a creative organizational in the best way possible? In this paper, a new approach is used for studying the design of physical environments that foster organizational creativity, combining the results of psychological studies on the impact of physical environment on creativity with the facilities planning body of knowledge applied by industrial engineers. In order to test the results, a single case study is developed in a small IT consulting firm. By using the systematic layout planning (SLP) step by step process, it is shown that by acting on the work environment of the company, the developers creative processes can be boosted and facilitated. It is also shown that both industrial engineering and creativity research have much to contribute to each other and future research topics in the field are presented.展开更多

文摘This paper discusses a methodology for the environmental assessment of tourist facilities located in Cuban coastal zones in which the general aspects of the process are discussed, defined, and characterized, and examines the main processes that occur as a result of the negative impacts of construction activities. It establishes the theoretical conceptual framework underlying the research and includes a detailed analysis and processing of a sample of tourism projects located in coastal ecosystems. The methodology is complemented by results that include proposed strategic lines of action and a plan for managing negative environmental impacts throughout the life cycle of tourist facilities through prevention, correction and mitigation measures. It ends with conclusions and recommendations to guide tourism development toward environmental sustainability.
文摘Urban flooding has been a severe problem for many cities around the world as it remains one of the greatest threats to the property and safety of human com-munities.In Australia,it is seen as the most expensive natural hazard. However, urban areas that are impervious to rainwater have been sharply increasing owing to booming construction activities and rapid urbanisation. The change in the built environment may cause more frequent and longer duration of flooding in flood-prone urban regions. Thus, the flood inundation issue associated with the effects of land uses needs to be explored and developed. This research constructs a framework for modelling urban flood inundation.Different rainfall events are then designed for examining the impact on flash floods generated by land-use changes.Measure-ment is formulated for changes of topographical features over a real time series.Geographic Information System(GIS)technologies are then utilised to visual-ise the effects of land-use changes on flood inundation under different types of storms.Based on a community-based case study, the results reveal that the built environment leads to varying degrees of aggravation of urban flash floods with dif-ferent storm events and a few rainwater storage units may slightly mitigate flood-ing extents under different storm conditions.Hence,it is recommended that the outcomes of this study could be applied to flood assessment measures for urban development and the attained results could be utilised in government planning to raise awareness of flood hazard.

文摘Large-scale 3D physical models of complex structures can be used to simulate hydrocarbon exploration areas. Furthermore, the model is considered a standard in seismic physical modeling technology.

文摘Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the association between school and community physical activity(PA) characteristics and levels of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA) among Chinese school children. Methods: Data were obtained from the 2016 Physical Activity and Fitness in China—The Youth Study project. School PA facilities appear underutilized among urban schools as evidenced by low levels of MVPA among school children.
文摘South Korea’s construction industry won orders worth USD 58 billion in 2011, and as such, it has achieved a remarkable growth. However, despite such an impressive quantitative growth, value-added quality growth has been very slow. Thus, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Marine Affairs (MLTM) is pushing ahead with the construction informatization initiative (Construction Continuous Acquisition & Life-cycle Support - CALS) in order to systematically manage a wide range of construction information by stage and to enhance the efficiency of construction costs. This study aims to review the country’s construction CALS to explore a construction development direction.
文摘Facilities planning tools have been used by project managers for planning industry spaces for decades now, but applications in creative organizations are still sparse. It is also shown that both industrial engineering and creativity research have much to contribute to each other and future research topics in the field are presented.
