In this study,the impacts of internal heat generation on heat transfer enhancement of porous fin is theoretical investigated using differential transform method.The parametric studies reveal that porosity enhances the...In this study,the impacts of internal heat generation on heat transfer enhancement of porous fin is theoretical investigated using differential transform method.The parametric studies reveal that porosity enhances the fin heat dissipating capacity but the internal heat generation decreases the heat enhancement capacity of extended surface.Also,it is established that when the internal heat parameter increases to some certain values,some negative effects are recorded where the fin stores heat rather than dissipating it.This scenario defeats the prime purpose of the cooling fin.Additionally,it is established in the present study that the limiting value of porosity parameter for thermal stability for the passive device increases as internal heat parameter increases.This shows that although the internal heat parameter can help assist higher range and value of thermal stability of the fin,it produces negative effect which greatly defeats the ultimate purpose of the fin.The results in the work will help in fin design for industrial applications where internal heat generation is involved.展开更多
Internal friction (IF) spectra during reverse martensitic transformation from 35 to 135°C at different temperature rates of 0.5,0.75,and 1°C/min for Ti50Ni27Cu23 shape memory alloy (SMA) samples were mea...Internal friction (IF) spectra during reverse martensitic transformation from 35 to 135°C at different temperature rates of 0.5,0.75,and 1°C/min for Ti50Ni27Cu23 shape memory alloy (SMA) samples were measured with a dynamic mechanical analyzer,respectively.The IF spectra were characterized by IF peak increasing progressively and peak shifting toward high temperature with an increase in temperature rate.An iterative approach was used to calculate the precise intrinsic and approximate transitory IF contributions to the normal IF spectrum.The quantitatively analyzed results indicate that the transitory IF of this alloy is nonlinearly dependent on the temperature rate and obeys a power law with a power coefficient of 0.55.The predicted and experimental IF spectra at different temperature rates of 0.75 and 1°C/min agree well with each other,respectively.展开更多

Separating reflected internal tide signals from incident ones is crucial to develop the parameterization of internal tide-driven turbulent mixing on the continental slopes. In this study, the performances of three different methods for estimating internal tide reflections are examined by using two different cases. The Hilbert transform-based method is found to be more suitable than two other methods for both cases considered in this study. The two other methods are effective for westward-propagating mode-1 internal tides impacting a slope, but inappropriate in the case where internal tides radiate from a Gaussian ridge impact the slope because of their inaccurate estimation of incident internal tides in the latter case. Such inaccurate estimation further influences the extraction of reflected signals and calculation of the reflected and cross term of energy fluxes. In addition, it should be noted that, due to the use of filtering, the method based on Hilbert transform may result in slight bias when assessing the incident and reflected signals near topographic features.展开更多

The 3D shape-changing hydrogels are highly pursued for numerous applications.However,up to now,the construction of complex 3D shape-changing hydrogels remains a challenge.The reported design strategies are mainly appl...The 3D shape-changing hydrogels are highly pursued for numerous applications.However,up to now,the construction of complex 3D shape-changing hydrogels remains a challenge.The reported design strategies are mainly applied to fabricate 2D ones by introducing anisotropic microstructures into hydrogel sheets/membranes.Herein,we present a convenient photolithography strategy for constructing complex 3D shape-changing hydrogels by simultaneously modulating anisotropic microstructures and internal stress fields of gel sheets.When the precursor solution containing ultraviolet(UV)absorber is irradiated by single-side UV light,the attenuated polymerization rate can cause the generation of asymmetric internal stress field in the resulting hydrogel sheet.In the meantime,the directional diffusion of unpolymerized monomers allows for the formation of vertical gradient structure within hydrogel.Therefore,by applying different photomasks to modulate the local gradient structures and internal stress fields of the gel sheets,they can spontaneously transform into various complex 3D shape-changing hydrogels in the air.Response to the external stimuli,these 3D shape-changing hydrogels(e.g.,fighter plane,birdie,and multi-storey origami lattices)can deform in a novel 3D_(1)-to-3D_(2)-to-3D_(3)mode.This new design strategy contributes to the development of complex biomedical implants and soft robotics.展开更多
Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and Kelvin-Voigt model,a nonlinear model for the transverse vibration of a pipe under the combined action of base motion and pulsating internal flow is established.The governin...Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and Kelvin-Voigt model,a nonlinear model for the transverse vibration of a pipe under the combined action of base motion and pulsating internal flow is established.The governing partial differential equation is transformed into a nonlinear system of fourth-order ordinary differential equations by using the generalized integral transform technique(GITT).The effects of the combined excitation of base motion and pulsating internal flow on the nonlinear dynamic behavior of the pipe are investigated using a bifurcation diagram,phase trajectory diagram,power spectrum diagram,time-domain diagram,and Poincare map.The results show that the base excitation amplitude and frequency significantly affect the dynamic behavior of the pipe system.Some new resonance phenomena can be observed,such as the period-1 motion under the base excitation or the pulsating internal flow alone becomes the multi-periodic motion,quasi-periodic motion or even chaotic motion due to the combined excitation action.展开更多
