Growth and Physiological Features of Cyanobacterium Anabaena sp. Strain PCC 7120 in a Glucose-Mixotrophic Culture

Mixotrophic growth is one potential mode for mass culture of microalgae and cyanobacteria particularly suitable for the production of high value bioactive compounds and fine chemicals.The typical heterocystous cyanobacterium Anabaena sp.PCC 7120 was grown in the presence of exogenous glucose in light.Glucose improved the cell growth evidently,the maximal specific growth rate under mixotrophic condition（0.38 d 1）being 1.6-fold of that of photoautotrophic growth.Mixotrophy caused a variation in cellular pigment composition,increasing the content of chlorophyll a and decreasing the contents of carotenoid and phycobiliprotein relative to chlorophyll a.Fluorescence emission from photosystem II（PSII）relative to photosystem I was enhanced in mixotrophic cells,implying an increased energy distribution in PSII.Glucokinase（EC 2.7.1.2）activity was further induced in the presence of glucose.The mixotrophic culture was scaled up in a 15 L airlift photobioreactor equipped with an inner and an outer light source.A modified Monod model incorporating the specific growth rate and the average light intensity in the reactor was developed to describe cell growth appropriately.The understanding of mixotrophic growth and relevant physiological features of Anabaena sp.PCC 7120 would be meaningful for cultivation and exploitation of this important cyanobacterial strain.

Automatic Extraction Method of 3D Feature Guidelines for Complex Cultural Relic Surfaces Based on Point Cloud

Cultural relics line graphic serves as a crucial form of traditional artifact information documentation,which is a simple and intuitive product with low cost of displaying compared with 3D models.Dimensionality reduction is undoubtedly necessary for line drawings.However,most existing methods for artifact drawing rely on the principles of orthographic projection that always cannot avoid angle occlusion and data overlapping while the surface of cultural relics is complex.Therefore,conformal mapping was introduced as a dimensionality reduction way to compensate for the limitation of orthographic projection.Based on the given criteria for assessing surface complexity,this paper proposed a three-dimensional feature guideline extraction method for complex cultural relic surfaces.A 2D and 3D combined factor that measured the importance of points on describing surface features,vertex weight,was designed.Then the selection threshold for feature guideline extraction was determined based on the differences between vertex weight and shape index distributions.The feasibility and stability were verified through experiments conducted on real cultural relic surface data.Results demonstrated the ability of the method to address the challenges associated with the automatic generation of line drawings for complex surfaces.The extraction method and the obtained results will be useful for line graphic drawing,displaying and propaganda of cultural relics.

Hepatocyte culture in a radial-flow bioreactor with plasma polypyrrole coated scaffolds

We have designed and evaluated a radial-flow bioreactor for three-dimensional liver carcinoma cell culture on a new porous coated scaffold.We designed a culture chamber where a radial flow of culture medi-um was continuously delivered through it.Once this system was established,flow was simulated using flow dy-namics software based on numeric methods to solve Navier-Stockes flow equations.Perfusion within cell culture scaffolds was simulated using a flow velocity of 7 mL/min and found that cell culture medium was distributed unhindered in the bioreactor chamber.Afterwards,the bioreactor was built according to the simulated design and was tested with liver carcinoma cells(HepG2)cultured over an L-polylactic acid scaffold whose surface was modified with iodine-doped polypyrrole.The bioreactor was tested under non-flow and in radial flow condi-tions.Cell density under radial flow conditions was almost double than that under static conditions and both total protein and albumin output was also increased under radial flow conditions.

A Study on Typical Features of E-Discourse in Chinese

This study aimed to find the typical features of e-discourse of Chinese which are different from other literacy practices.It examined how younger groups of Chinese interact online through online chatting software(QQ) and studies the discursive linguistic strategies and features involved. The findings demonstrated how they adopted and adapted English to interact creatively and playfully in a context with spatio- temporal constraints(Werry 1996) in maintaining and establishing social contact, and to express their cultural identity through code- switching.
