Objective:This paper aims to study the correlativity between the number of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) cases and seasonal meteorological factors in Beijing. Methods:Based on theory of Human-Environmental Inter Relation in Huangdi's Internal Classics,we adopted monthly cases of PTB in Beijing from 2004 to 2011,and established a Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA) model.Using the cross-correlation function (CCF),we then analyzed the correlation between meteorological factors and number of infected patients. The related meteorological factors were subsequently integrated,to establish a Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average with explanatory variables (SARIMAX) model, which was used to estimate and verify the number of PTB cases in 2012.Results:In this study,a SARIMA(0,1,1) (0,1,1)12 model was established;CCF analysis was used to reveal the correlativity between PTB and precipitation with 1 lag, relative humidity with 1 lag. Then, integrated with relative humidity with 1 lag (β =2.405,95% confidence interval:0.433-4.377),the SARIMAX prediction model was proved to be an accurate approach for predicting local situations of PTB occurrence. Conclusions:The occurrence of PTB is correlated with seasonal meteorological factors.Combining these factors,an exact prediction model can be established,to estimate of the number of PTB infected patients. 展开更多

The time-history responses of the surface were obtained for a linear elastic half-plane including regularly distributed enormous embedded circular cavities subjected to propagating obliquely incident plane SH-waves. An advanced numerical approach named half-plane time-domain boundary element method(BEM), which only located the meshes around the cavities, was used to create the model. By establishing the modified boundary integral equation(BIE)independently for each cavity and forming the matrices, the final coupled equation was solved step-by-step in the timedomain to obtain the boundary values. The responses were developed for a half-plane with 512 cavities. The amplification patterns were also obtained to illustrate the frequencydomain responses for some cases. According to the results, the presence of enormous cavities affects the scattering and diffraction of the waves arrived to the surface. The introduced method can be recommended for geotechnical/mechanical engineers to model structures in the fields of earthquake engineering and composite materials. 展开更多

We consider the psychophysical experiments in which the test subject’s binary reaction is determined by the prescribed exposure duration to a stimulus and a random variable subjective threshold. For example, when a subject is exposed to a millimeter wave beam for a prescribed duration, the occurrence of flight action is binary (yes or no). In experiments, in addition to the binary outcome, the actuation time of flight action is also recorded if it occurs;the delay from the initiation time to the actuation time of flight action is the human reaction time, which is not measurable. In this study, we model the random subjective threshold as a Weibull distribution and formulate an inference method for estimating the human reaction time, from data of prescribed exposure durations, binary outcomes and actuation times of flight action collected in a sequence of tests. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the inference of human reaction time based on the Weibull distribution converges to the correct value even when the underlying true model deviates from the inference model. This robustness of the inference method makes it applicable to real experimental data where the underlying true model is unknown. 展开更多

The Cuban people are made up of three major migratory currents, the Chinese are one of them. They brought their culture, the methods, and procedures of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) in the 19th century. Few were able to return and so they created families in Cuba;some of their descendants dedicated themselves to medicine. In order to investigate the practices that were predecessors of TCM in Cuba in the 19th century, a qualitative phenomenological research was carried out, reviewing what was published by various sources, applying documentary analysis, logical historical analysis, abstraction, synthesis, and systematization of the results on the regularities of the work and human behavior of Chinese doctors in the Cuban 19th and 20th centuries. This made it possible to identify six Chinese doctors in the 19th century in Cuba who gave rise to the beginning of some practices of TCM in Cuba, and five from the 20th century, descendants of coolies who dedicated themselves to other specialties of medicine. It was found that despite their geographical and time disperse, they were all notorious for their outstanding professional and human behavior, with a trail of accumulated successes in achieving “almost the impossible” with the patient. They have left their mark on Cuban culture. 展开更多

BACKGROUND The needs for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER-2) and/or programmed death-ligand 1(PD-L1) evaluations in gastric cancer are dramatically increasing. Although the importance of standardization of sample fixation has been widely recognized, most of the evidence regarding the fixation duration or type of fixing solution are based on breast cancer.AIM To investigate the real effects of fixation conditions on HER-2 testing or PD-L1 testing for gastric cancer using gastrectomy specimens.METHODS Thirty-two patients who underwent gastrectomy for gastric cancer were enrolled.Their resected specimens were each divided into four pieces and fixed in four strictly controlled different durations(6 h, 24 h, and 48 h, and 1 wk) by 10%formalin(n = 22) or 10% neutral buffered formalin(NBF)(n = 10).Immunohistochemistry(IHC) of HER-2 and PD-1 was performed, and a pathology examination was conducted. In the HER-2-immunoreactive cases, all four specimens were subjected to dual-color in situ hybridization(DISH). Five cases were assessed as HER-2-positive by IHC and DISH. We used the cut-off values of 1%, 10%, and 50% to assess the IHC findings of PD-L1.RESULTS No significant difference was observed in comparisons between the shorter fixation period groups(6 h, 24 h, and 48 h) and the prolonged fixation period(1 wk) group in the HER-2 and PD-L1 analyses. Although no significant difference was observed between 10% formalin and 10% NBF within 1 wk of fixation, the superiority of 10% NBF was confirmed in a long-term(> 3 mo) fixation in both the HER-2 and PD-L1 analyses.CONCLUSION In this small-numbered pilot study, prolonged fixation within 1 wk showed no inferiority in HER-2 or PD-L1 testing. However, a large-numbered prospective study is needed to obtain conclusive results. 展开更多

Traditional indoor human activity recognition(HAR)is a timeseries data classification problem and needs feature extraction.Presently, considerable attention has been given to the domain ofHARdue to the enormous amount of its real-time uses in real-time applications, namely surveillance by authorities, biometric user identification, and health monitoring of older people. The extensive usage of the Internet of Things(IoT)and wearable sensor devices has made the topic of HAR a vital subject in ubiquitous and mobile computing. The more commonly utilized inference and problemsolving technique in the HAR system have recently been deep learning(DL).The study develops aModifiedWild Horse Optimization withDLAided Symmetric Human Activity Recognition(MWHODL-SHAR)model.The major intention of the MWHODL-SHAR model lies in recognition of symmetric activities, namely jogging, walking, standing, sitting, etc. In the presented MWHODL-SHAR technique, the human activities data is pre-processed in various stages to make it compatible for further processing.A convolution neural network with an attention-based long short-term memory(CNNALSTM)model is applied for activity recognition. The MWHO algorithm is utilized as a hyperparameter tuning strategy to improve the detection rate of the CNN-ALSTM algorithm. The experimental validation of the MWHODL-SHAR technique is simulated using a benchmark dataset. An extensive comparison study revealed the betterment of theMWHODL-SHAR technique over other recent approaches. 展开更多

Quayside container crane is a kind of huge dimension steel structure, which is the major equipment used for handling container at modern ports. With the aim to validate the safety and reliability of the crane under seismic loads, besides conventional analysis,elastic-plastic time history analysis under rare seismic intensity is carried out.An ideal finite element(FEM) elastic-plastic mechanical model of the quayside container crane is presented by using ANSYS codes.Furthermore, according to elastic-plastic time history analysis theory, deformation, stress and damage pattern of the structure under rare seismic intensity are investigated.Based on the above analysis, the established reliability model according to the reliability theory, together with seismic reliability analysis based on Monte-Carlo simulation is applied to practical analysis. The results show that the overall structure of the quayside container crane is generally unstable under rare seismic intensity, and the structure needs to be reinforced. 展开更多

The life histories of 429 individual epidermal keratinocyte clones picked at random were studied. Individual basal keratinocytes were derived from asynchronous rapidly proliferating subconfluent cultures propagated in either a low calcium (0.1mM) or a high calcium (2mM) serum-free medium. Single-celled clones were isolated by seeding trypsin-EDTA dissociated cells into a Petri dish containing cloning chips. Chips with only one cell per chip were transferred into dishes containing either low calcium or high calcium growth factor replete serum-free medium. Clone formation was monitored microscopically and the number of cells in each colony tallied at least twice daily for further analysis. A total of 369 clones were established from seven different neonatal foreskin cell strains (A-F), and 60 clones were derived from one adult human skin cell strain (G). During a five-day culture interval, among 32 clones of strain A, 83% divided at least once, 50% divided once in 24 hours, 86% divided at least three times within three days, and more than 50% divided at least four to five times in five days. Of 231 clones amongst the other five cell strains (B-F), an average of 63% (±12 S,E) divided more than three times in an eight day period, the remainder divided either once, twice or not at all. Of the 106 clones of strain G, reared in high calcium serum-free medium, 67% divided more than three times in a six-day period, and 55% divided five or more times in 6 days. Clones derived from adult skin strain H had a lower clone forming potential with 70% dividing at least once in seven days, and only 30% dividing three or more times. By contrast, the average generation time (AvGT) for second and third passage keratinocytes derived from neonatal foreskin cultures was 24 hrs. Detailed dendrograms were constructed for many of the proliferating clones. The majority of clones expressed a synblastic division pattern with every cell dividing at least once per day. A fraction of clones either exceeded this circadian division rate or displayed a biphasic division pattern with all cells initially dividing once a day and then abruptly slowing to once every other day or to an intermediate rate. A minority of clones was committed to a few terminal divisions. The division patterns of the non-synblastic clones fit an alternating bifurcated branching mode of clonal expansion expressed by the Fibonacci sequence for numbers of accumulated cells per clone per day. These results were analyzed in terms of deterministic, probabilistic and a limit cycle oscillator models of cell division timing. 展开更多

Detecting feature points on the human body in video frames is a key step for tracking human movements. There have been methods developed that leverage models of human pose and classification of pixels of the body image. Yet, occlusion and robustness are still open challenges. In this paper, we present an automatic, model-free feature point detection and action tracking method using a time-of-flight camera. Our method automatically detects feature points for movement abstraction. To overcome errors caused by miss-detection and occlusion, a refinement method is devised that uses the trajectory of the feature points to correct the erroneous detections. Experiments were conducted using videos acquired with a Microsoft Kinect camera and a publicly available video set and comparisons were conducted with the state-of-the-art methods. The results demonstrated that our proposed method delivered improved and reliable performance with an average accuracy in the range of 90 %.The trajectorybased refinement also demonstrated satisfactory effectiveness that recovers the detection with a success rate of 93.7 %. Our method processed a frame in an average time of 71.1 ms. 展开更多

This study analyzed the factors responsible for determining the flavor detection time for chewed semi-solid foods. Thirteen healthy young adults (eight males and five females) were asked to chew gummy candies with five different fruit flavors (i.e., apple, grape, orange, pear, and strawberry) in a random order. The detection time to flavor was measured using an electromyography-based system, which was recently developed by the authors. Briefly, each participant was recorded with surface masseter electromyograms on both sides to determine the start of chewing. Each participant was asked to press a button as soon as possible with his/her preferred hand after detecting the flavor. The time elapsed between the start of chewing and the button press was measured. Two taste components, sugars and organic acids, of the gummy candies were chemically analyzed, and two major sugars and organic acid were individually detected. The odor intensity was also analyzed for the gummy candies. The average detection time significantly differed among the five gummy candies and among the participants. Simple regression analyses revealed that the intensity of the odors was significantly associated with the average time intervals, but the amounts of the two major sugars and the organic acids were not. The analysis yielded the following equation for the regression estimation:?? (y = the time interval, x = the intensity of odors). The results suggest that the intensity of odors of the gummy candies, not the taste components, is responsible for determining the flavor detection time. 展开更多

This study aimed to develop a system to measure the flavor detection time for chewed solid and semi-solid foods. Twelve healthy young adults (seven males and five females) were asked to chew gummy candies with three different fruit flavors (grape, lemon, and pineapple) in a random order while their masseter activities were recorded by surface electromyograms on their habitual working and non-working sides. The participants were also asked to press a button as soon as possible with their preferred hand once they detected the flavor. The time interval between the start of chewing and the button press was measured;the start of chewing was defined as the start of a burst in the masseter electromyogram on the habitual working side. The average interval ranged from 2.82 s (lemon in males) to 4.63 s (grape in males);no significant differences were found between the three tested gummy candies or between the sexes of the participants. The present system can perform the measurements of the following two conventional measurement systems: 1) simple reaction time task for the taste and olfactory stimuli of fluids and vapors, respectively, and 2) time-intensity analysis of the flavor from solid and semi-solid foods, which does not generally consider the flavor detection time. 展开更多

The seismic design of gravity retaining walls is based mostly on the pseudo static method. The seismic earth pressure is assumed to be a constant without considering the wave traveling effect when the seismic wave propagates through the slope. However, under continuous ground motion, the actual earth pressure on the retaining wall varies with time. The present seismic earth pressure calculation method yields results that differ significantly from the actual scenario.Considering this,a slip surface curve was assumed in this study. It is more suitable for engineering practice. In addition,a theoretical calculation model based on energy dissipation was established. The time history of seismic earth pressure response under continuous ground motion was calculated using the equilibrium equation between the external power and the internal energy dissipation power of the sliding soil wedge. It can more effectively reflect the stress scenario of a retaining wall under seismic conditions. To verify the applicability of the proposed approach,a large-scale shaking table test was conducted, and the time history of the seismic earth pressure response obtained from the experiment was compared with the calculation results. The results show that the proposed approach is applicable to the calculation of the time history of seismic earth pressure response of gravity retaining walls. This lays the foundation for the seismic design of retaining structures by using dynamic time history. 展开更多

Despite the progress has been reached with Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) research, there are gaps in the knowledge of viral induced oncogenesis. The aim of the present study was to identify possible associations between HHV-8 subtypes, HHV-8 loads and clinical manifestations of HIV infected patients diagnosed with different malignancies associated with HHV-8 infection. Forty six HIV-1 infected individuals diagnosed with different HHV-8 associated diseases were studied [37 epidemic Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS), 3 pleural effusion lymphoma (PEL);5 peripheral lymphadenopathies (PL);1 Hodgkin’s lymphoma (HL);1 non Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL)]. HHV-8 loads were determined by quantitative real time PCR (qRT-PCR) whilst HHV-8 subtypes were determined by open-reading frame (ORF)-K1 gen genotyping. HHV-8 subtypes B, A, C, A5 and E were exhibited by 31.8%, 23.4%, 19.1%, 17% and 8.5% of the studied patients, respectively. The median HHV-8 viral load did not differ between subtypes (p > 0.05) but HHV-8 viral loads were significantly higher in PEL than in epidemic KS lesion or lymph nodes (p = 0.04). Subtype B was detected in 60% of patients with B cell lymphoma (NHL, PEL and HL) whereas subtype E was only detected in patients with epidemic KS diagnosis. Our data suggest that HHV-8 DNA quantification instead of subtype identification could be used as a surrogate marker for monitoring its infection, not only in epidemic KS patients but also in HIV infected individuals with lymphoproliferative disorders. 展开更多

Watabe (1992), the authors deduced the related mathematical formulas. Taking an artificial ground motion compatible with single-damping as the original time history, a small corrected time history was calculated by solving linear equations using a singular value decomposition method. We performed iteration to obtain the simulated earthquake motion compatible with multi-damping within a certain accuracy. The influences of selective matching frequencies are discussed preliminarily. Although the current criterion still has no explicit demand on different numbers of matching frequencies for various damping factors, it should be taken into account in practice. 展开更多

Objective:To explore the effect of different fertilization time after human chorionic gonadotropin(HCG)injection on the outcome of fertilization in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer(IVF-ET).Methods:One thousand one hundred and forty IVF-ET cycles from January 2016 to August 2018 were analyzed retrospectively.According to the different fertilization time after injection of HCG divided into four groups:Group A(38.0 h~39.0 h),Group B(39.1 h~40.0 h),Group C(40.1 h~41.0 h),and Group D(41.1 h~42.0 h).The normal fertilization rate, the normal cleavage rate, the embryo utilization rate, the high-quality embryo rate, the clinical pregnancy rate, the implantation rate, and the spontaneous abortion rate were analyzed among the groups. Then we investigated the effect of different promotion methods on the outcome of fertilization during the optimal fertilization time. Results:There was no significant difference in 2PN cleavage rate, available embryo rate, clinical pregnancy rate, implantation rate and abortion rate among the four groups(P>0.05).The high-quality embryo rate in Group D(44.6%)was the highest, and was significantly different among the four groups(P<0.05).The normal fertilization rate in Group D(71.6%)was the highest, and was significantly different among the four groups(P<0.05).The normal fertilization rate(78.1%)of antagonist group was significantly higher than other groups(P<0.05).Conclusion:The different fertilization time after HCG injection have effects on high-quality embryo rate and normal fertilization rate of patients in IVF-ET.The appropriate fertilization time of patients in IVF-ET was 41 h~42 h after HCG injection in our reproductive center, improved the clinical pregnancy rate and reduced the early abortion rate. The GnRH-ant protocol is superior to other protocol in IVF-ET. 展开更多

Fatigue is the main cause of such failures. Due to the complexity of the phenomenon no closed form design solutions are available. In our study an analytical technique based on the theory of vibrations in the time domain has been presented. Using the inverse theory, the problem has been reduced to a system of Volterra Integral equations to be solved simultaneously at every time step. The solution of the inverse problem may be used in the conventional method to calculate stresses and end reactions which are important from the perspective of engineering design and condition monitoring. The method is robust, simple and can be easily adopted by practicing engineers. 展开更多
