This paper argues that the conformity-nonconformity dichotomy is a false dilemma.This study first critically reviews the basic philosophical,ethical,social psychological,and pedagogical literature related to the two c...This paper argues that the conformity-nonconformity dichotomy is a false dilemma.This study first critically reviews the basic philosophical,ethical,social psychological,and pedagogical literature related to the two concepts.It then outlines the way to overcome the phenomena of conformism and nonconformism together.The description of conformity and nonconformity as deprivation of freedom becomes stronger in 20th century philosophy and special literature from Heidegger through Fischer’s definition up to Cooley,and Crutchfield.Conformity is the sinking of the Self into the Anyone,the unprincipled alignment to the opinion of group mates,and nonconformity is the unprincipled resistance to it.But what is beyond conformity and nonconformity together as a group?There is a real community,in it the transformation of our pedagogical culture in a both useful and reasonable manner to allow the youth to accept the world by denying it and to deny the world by accepting it.The real community involves the virtue of goodness.Educate for goodness,because we possibly are the honest and humane man,who disregards the sinking of the self into the anyone and the self-contained rebellion.展开更多

In real life, then, the becoming of universal justice as an authentic moral virtue depends first and foremost upon the concrete and dynamic cultivation of such a universalistic ethical attitude: regarding neither merely oneself nor some persons specially related to oneself, but everyone as the "human," and valuing all of them morally important and dignified so as not to do morally unacceptable harm to them, but to respect their deserved rights.展开更多
Zhuzi (Zhu Xi), Zhang Nanxuan and Lu Donglai continued a discussion begun by Hu Wufeng and his disciples on the subject of"knowing the form of benevolence," and "seeking for a true mind in an absent one." One re...Zhuzi (Zhu Xi), Zhang Nanxuan and Lu Donglai continued a discussion begun by Hu Wufeng and his disciples on the subject of"knowing the form of benevolence," and "seeking for a true mind in an absent one." One result of their discussion was to make people realize that innately good knowledge and ability are not only manifested in loving one's parents and respecting one's elders, but also in the simple acts of drinking when thirsty and eating when hungry. This generated the idea of "manifestation range of innately good knowledge and ability." However, another conclusion of this discussion claimed that if the desire to drink and eat or the king of Qi's grudging an ox are included in this range, there would be a danger of viewing innately good knowledge and ability merely as inborn human nature or instinct. This discussion reveals an unsteady relationship between innately good knowledge and ability and the feeling of commiseration, which are sometimes united and sometimes separate.展开更多
