English Translation of Chinese Natural Ecological Discourse:A Corpus-based Case Study on Xi Jinping:The Governance of China

Amid the increasingly severe global natural eco-environment,it is necessary to build a natural ecological civilization by constructing an ecological civilization discourse.Against this background,this study compiles a corpus of natural ecological discourse in the English translation of Xi Jinping:The Governance of China(short for Xi).By using Wordsmith and AntConc,this study explores the linguistic features of the ecological discourse in English translation of Xi in the following dimensions,including high-frequency words,keywords,word collocations,concordance lines.This study aims to analyze the concepts and attitudes towards natural ecology,so as to provide certain valuable insights for the construction of China’s discourse on natural ecological civilization.The study found that the natural ecology discourse involving in the English translation of Xi turned out to be ecologically beneficial.

English Translation of Culture-Loaded Words——A Corpus Based Study

Under the background of Chinese culture“going out”initiative,research on the translation of culture-loaded words can speed up the spread of Chinese culture.Firstly,the author builds a parallel corpus based on the English translation and Chinese version of“Xi Jinping:The Governance of the Country”(Volume III).Secondly,a total of 800 culture-loaded words was collected from this book among which the author selected 135 culture-loaded words by random sampling,and divided them into four categories:social culture-loaded words,material culture-loaded words,ecological culture-loaded words,and language culture-loaded words according to Nida’s classification of culture-loaded words.Thirdly,the study found that foreignization was more preferred by the translators and the author summarized the main translation strategies of culture-loaded words,including literal translation,free translation,transliteration plus annotation,literal translation plus annotation,etc.Finally,seven typical examples were selected for further analysis and the author illustrated how the application of translation strategies promoted Chinese culture“go out”initiative.

Culture-Specific Metaphor in TGOC and Its C-E Translation

The Governance of China features the application of metaphors with Chinese characteristics.Metaphor is very persuasive.It uses rational and conscious conceptual basis with emotional and metaphoric meaning to describe facts and affect people’s perception.Through statistical analysis of Xi Jinping’s metaphorical expression and its resonance of the source domain,the current research focuses on the identification of conceptual metaphors in TGOC and explores its translation strategies.It is found that the ROSD of JOURNEY,BUILDING and WAR metaphors are among the highest and significant.Four networks have been identified to translate the culture-specific metaphors from Chinese into English,while the Single-Scopes dominate an overwhelming majority.Single-Scopes and Double-Scopes are the main cognitive strategies for the C-E translation.

China’s Traditional Chinese Medicine-Style(TCM)Governance in Participation in the Middle Eastern Issues:Theories,Practices and Prospects

The concepts of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)are rooted in the profound traditional Chinese culture and philosophy.There is an old Chinese saying that‘outstanding doctors can be masterful enough to govern a country.’This means some concepts of TCM is compatible with the ones of governing political systems.At first,on the basis of the concepts of TCM treatment,this study puts forward a theoretical framework of TCM-based governance for China to participation in Middle Eastern issues.If we compare the Middle East to a human body with different systems and levels of organisations,its problems are its‘illnesses,’so to cure them and achieve the ultimate balance,as TCM focuses on,it is necessary to fundamentally improve the inner and outer political and economic environments of the Middle East,and its own‘immune system.’Secondly,the study will combine the concept of‘holistic view’with China’s participation in the governance of Middle Eastern issues before to prove the feasibility of the governance methods based on the TCM concepts.Furthermore,this study,to analyse the key factors of current conflicts in the region,‘takes pulses’to find out the root cause of those issues,and‘prescribe Chinese medicine’for different cases.It is our hope to promote the governance methods with Chinese wisdom.

行政区与功能区耦合的中国县域空间治理模式

County-level administrative divisions and main functional areas are two basic governance systems that act concurrently on county-level geographical units.The administrative division governance focuses on local administration and regular social services,while the main functional area governance focuses on differentiated territorial space development.This paper summarizes the emerging trends and requirements of countylevel spatial governance in China and analyzes the coupling relationship of county-level administrative divisions and main functional areas.Then,the paper proposes to develop an interactive mechanism for the two systems,with administrative divisions focusing on local administration and social governance,and main functional areas focusing on strength complementation and differentiated development.In addition,it puts forward a new county-level spatial governance model featuring a coupling relationship of administrative and functional systems that is well matched with the coordination mechanism.It may provide a reference for improving administrative divisions,the main functional area policy system,and their dynamic adjustments.

The Chinese Strategy for Actively Responding to Population Ageing

The course of population ageing in China has unique features, and the country’s fundamental national conditions, development path and governance model impose special requirements on the country’s response. A path with Chinese characteristics that actively addresses this issue is urgently needed. The Chinese strategy is built on solid foundations,comprising the governance paradigm advantage of “one core and multiple components”;the structural advantage of “state-family-society” governance arrangements;the national endowment of being a major country with a rich culture;and the late-mover advantage conferred by the scientific and technological innovations of our changing times. It is necessary to clarify the relationship between the national strategy of actively responding to an population ageing and the population development strategy;on this basis, a positive view of ageing need to be cultivated to provide a better environment for the implementation of the national strategy;and to establish a holistic governance framework in which individuals,families, communities, the state, and the world are interconnected by integrating Chinese advantages in the governance of an ageing society. Thus, a systemic Chinese strategy for actively responding to population ageing can be continuously refined.
