Materials and Methods: Forty-eight computed tomography (CT) scans of eight prostate cancer patients were investigated. Each patient had an initial planning CT scan and 5 consecutive serial CT scans during the course of treatment, all of which were acquired using 3 mm slice separation and 0.94 mm resolution in the axial plane at 120 kVp, on a PQ 5000 CT scanner. Three different whole pelvis planning margin recipes, ranging from 3 to 13 mm, were investigated. A unique IMRT plan was created with each PTV on the initial CT scan, and was then registered to the 5 serial CT scans, by bony alignment or by prostate gland-based alignment. The dose computed on each serial CT scans was accumulated back to the initial CT scan using deformable image registration for final dosimetric evaluation of the interplay of the margin selection and alignment methods. Results: Bony alignment and prostate gland-based alignment gave very similar result to the pelvic lymphatic nodes (PLNs), regardless of its margin around. The prostate gland-based alignment greatly enhanced the coverage to the prostate and SV, especially with small margins. Meanwhile, the soft-tissue alignment also raised the incidental dose to the rectum and reduces the dose to the bladder. With small to intermediate margins, only soft-tissue alignment gave acceptable mean coverage to SV. Margin of 13mm or more was needed for PLNs to maintain good target coverage. Conclusion: We commend prostate-based alignment along with margins less than or equal to 5mm around prostate and SV, and margins greater than or equal to 13 mm around the vascular spaces.展开更多

The aims of this study were to elucidate the connection among body image disturbance and dissatisfaction, scorn and stigma in severely obese individuals using a case-control method. Method: The study group consisted of 112 individuals receiving permanent disability pensions primarily for obesity. The controls were selected by random sampling. The controls were matched with the subjects by place of residence, gender, age, the time since the pension was granted and occupation. Psychiatric interviews and psychological assessments were conducted with all participants. The results were analyzed via chi-squared tests (χ2-tests) and percent distributions. The subject and control groups were compared via paired t-tests. Conditional logistic regression analysis was also conducted. Results: In the Draw a Person test, we found disorganization of the body image to some degree in the subject group. Some significant differences were found between the Machover index and the wholeness index. The Rorschach variables obtained some differences in the responses between the subject and control groups. Obesity was a problem in all age groups. In the study group, half of the participants thought that they were obese. Most of the participants had endured scorn and contempt directed at them due to being overweight. Conclusions: We believe that our study provides a novel and necessary overview of the connection among body image disturbance and dissatisfaction, scorn and stigma.展开更多

The importance of attractiveness among blind persons has not been assessed. We investigated the influence of makeup on brain activity of blind persons using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Participants were 7 blind females (BFs) who learned to fully apply makeup and 9 mostly age-matched normally sighted females (NSFs). Brain activity was measured using fMRI before and after application of makeup and during a makeup image task in each state. In the default mode network at rest, there was no difference between the BFs and NSFs. However, a lateral visual network to the opposite side was observed in the NSFs, whereas no such network was noted in the BFs. A weak network was noted in the BFs in the occipital fusiform gyrus and temporal occipital fusiform cortex, and an extensive visual area network defect was noted. Also, activity after makeup application was significantly higher in the nucleus accumbens, pallidum, and hippocampus. Activity in the right middle cingulate gyrus, right cerebral white matter, and right anterior cingulate gyrus was higher before makeup in both BFs and NSFs, and the activity was significantly higher and more extensive in the BFs. In conclusion, applying makeup is a personally rewarding activity, even for BFs, as it strongly activates the reward system and the reward/memory system network, even in the absence of a visual area network.展开更多

文摘Limitations of cancer margin delineation and surgical guidance by means of autofluorescence imaging under conditions of laser ablation were investigated and preliminary results are presented.PinPoint^(TM)(Novadaq Technologies Inc.,Canada)was used to capture digital images and Er:YAG laser(2.94μm,Glissando,WaveLight^(TM),Germany)was exploited to cause laser ablation on both normal and cancer sites of the specimen. It was shown that changes of the autofluorescence image after ablation extend beyond the actual sizes of the ablation loci. The tumor tissue after the laser ablation starts to emit fluorescent light within the green wavelength band(490-550nm)similar to normal tissue stating that the current technology of in-process tissue classification fails. However, when the autofluorescence was collected in the red range(600-750nm),then the abnormal/normal contrast was reduced, but still present even after the laser ablation. The present study highlights the importance of finding a proper technology for surgical navigation of cancer removal under conditions of high power effects in biological tissues.
文摘Background: The obesity rate is rising. Conclusions: We believe that our study provides a novel and necessary overview of the connection among body image disturbance and dissatisfaction, scorn and stigma.
文摘Cosmetics are used to improve physical appearance, but the benefits may be limited to people without visual impairment. In conclusion, applying makeup is a personally rewarding activity, even for BFs, as it strongly activates the reward system and the reward/memory system network, even in the absence of a visual area network.
文摘Lucky Jimis a novel that reflects the social reality of British society in the 1950s.The protagonist Jim is common but special in the British society at that time. This article intends to analyze Jim's image and experiences from the perspectives of personality mask and Anima, which are included in Carl GustavJung's"mental structure of person",to reveal the intrinsic meaning of the novel as well as the social reality of that time.

文摘Objective:To investigate the differences between meditation and resting states using infrared thermal imaging(IRTI)to determine facial temperature distribution features during meditation and annotate the patterns of facial temperature changes during meditation from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine facial diagnosis. Methods:Each participant performed 10 min meditation and 10 min resting but in different sequences.A concentration test was set as the task load, followed by a meditation/resting or resting/meditation session, during which the participants'facial temperatures were observed using IRTI.Participants were scored on the Big Five Inventory(BFI)and Mindful Attention Awareness Scale(MAAS).Results:Forehead temperatures decreased more during meditation than during the resting state. The chin temperature increased only during meditation(P<.0001).For the subjects with meditation experience, there were significant differences in the temperatures of the left forehead(P<.01),right forehead(P<.01)and chin(P<.05)between the meditation and resting state at the 10~(th)min.In the nontask state, the BFI-Extraversion showed a negative correlation with the temperature of the left forehead(R=-0.41,P=.03).In the post-task state, the temperature of the left forehead was negatively correlated with scores on the MAAS(R=-0.42,P=.02).Conclusion:Using IRTI to study meditation offers a practical solution to the challenges in meditation research. The results indicate that an increase in chin temperature may be a representative feature of a meditation state, and forehead temperature is also a potential indicator.
文摘BACKGROUND A positive resection margin is a major risk factor for local breast cancer recurrence after breast-conserving surgery(BCS).Preoperative imaging examinations are frequently employed to assess the surgical margin.AIM To investigate the role and value of preoperative imaging examinations[magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),molybdenum target, and ultrasound]in evaluating margins for BCS.METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on 323 breast cancer patients who met the criteria for BCS and consented to the procedure from January 2014 to July 2021.The study gathered preoperative imaging data(MRI,ultrasound, and molybdenum target examination)and intraoperative and postoperative pathological information.Based on their BCS outcomes, patients were categorized into positive and negative margin groups.Subsequently, the patients were randomly split into a training set(226 patients, approximately 70%)and a validation set(97 patients, approximately 30%).The imaging and pathological information was analyzed and summarized using R software.Non-conditional logistic regression and LASSO regression were conducted in the validation set to identify factors that might influence the failure of BCS.A column chart was generated and applied to the validation set to examine the relationship between pathological margin range and prognosis. This study aims to identify the risk factors associated with failure in BCS.RESULTS The multivariate non-conditional logistic regression analysis demonstrated that various factors raise the risk of positive margins following BCS.These factors comprise non-mass enhancement(NME)on dynamic contrastenhanced MRI,multiple focal vascular signs around the lesion on MRI,tumor size exceeding 2 cm,type III timesignal intensity curve, indistinct margins on molybdenum target examination, unclear margins on ultrasound examination, and estrogen receptor(ER)positivity in immunohistochemistry.LASSO regression was additionally employed in this study to identify four predictive factors for the model:ER,molybdenum target tumor type(MT Xmd Shape),maximum intensity projection imaging feature, and lesion type on MRI.The model constructed with these predictive factors exhibited strong consistency with the real-world scenario in both the training set and validation set.Particularly, the outcomes of the column chart model accurately predicted the likelihood of positive margins in BCS.CONCLUSION The proposed column chart model effectively predicts the success of BCS for breast cancer. The model utilizes preoperative ultrasound, molybdenum target,MRI,and core needle biopsy pathology evaluation results, all of which align with the real-world scenario.Hence, our model can offer dependable guidance for clinical decisionmaking concerning BCS.
