This thesis focuses on the Krashen's Input Hypothesis, which includes the following five hypotheses: the acquisition- learning hypothesis, the monitor hypothesis, the natural order hypothesis, the input hypothesis and the effective filter hypothesis. The thesis tries to explore the pedagogical implications of Krashen's Input Hypothesis on second language teaching in the aspects of the input quantity and input quality. The thesis tries to explore the most effective methods of second language teaching, in the hope that it will help to improve the efficiency of second language teaching.展开更多

Linguists have carried out many theoretical and empirical studies with a sharp purpose to promote Second Language Acquisition. Krashen's Input Hypothesis and Long's Interaction Hypothesis are most influential ones among the studies. They both play important roles in language teaching and learning. The paper will present an account of the two great theories, including the main claims, theoretical foundations as well as some related empirical works and try to investigate commons and differences between them, based on literature and empirical studies. The purpose of writing this paper is to provide a clear outline of the two theories and point out how they are interrelated yet separate predictions about how second language are learned. It is meaningful because the results can be valuable guidance and highlights for language teachers and learners to teach or acquire a language better.展开更多

Among the large amount of research, Krashen's input hypothesis and Long's interaction hypothesis are perhaps most influential theories, from which most of input and interaction studies have developed. Input hypothesis claims that comprehensible input is the only one way to acquire language, whereas interaction hypothesis argues that interaction is necessary for language acquisition. Therefore, this thesis attempts to conduct a descriptive analysis between input hypothesis and interaction hypothesis, based on their basic ideas, theoretical basis, comparisons and empirical work. It concludes that input hypothesis and interaction hypothesis succeed in interpreting the process of language acquisition to some extent, and offer both theoretical and practical inspirations on second language teaching.展开更多

With respect to the overallresearch approach, case study will gain prominence in the methodological design since teachers' beliefs and attitudes will be highlight-ed and explored in depth. It can be predicted that some teaching interactive activities and strategies will be concluded and suggested inEnglish teaching. As far as I am concerned, interaction is an effective avenue to balance input and output, this can serve as linguistic da-ta for grammar and sentence building, as well as to modify and adjust their output in ways that improve their current linguistic and com-municative competence. As a whole, teachers' beliefs and attitudes towards the role input and output played in interactive classroomwill be explored. Furthermore, the teaching approaches of balancing input and output and the rationale behind them will be integrated aswell.展开更多
