Objective:Factors influencing school adaptation of school-aged children include both executive function(EF)and parent–child interaction.This study aims to investigate the developmental trajectory of mother–child int...Objective:Factors influencing school adaptation of school-aged children include both executive function(EF)and parent–child interaction.This study aims to investigate the developmental trajectory of mother–child interaction longitudinally using latent growth model analysis.Methods:A longitudinal descriptive survey study was conducted.The par ticipants comprised of 1,614 mothers and school-aged children,who participated in the Panel Study on Korean Children(6 th–8 th panel surveys).A model was designed and analyzed using latent growth modeling to estimate the pattern of change over time.Results:In the group where the maternal depression was within the normal range,only the path by which the change rate of mother–child interaction affected school adaptation of children was statistically nonsignificant(t=1.007,p=0.314).In the group where maternal depression was mild or higher,only the paths by which the initial value of mother–child interaction affected EF difficulty(t=-2.75,p=0.032)and EF difficulty affected school adaptation(t=-7.876,p<0.001)were statistically significant.Conclusions:This study confirms the research models developed by dividing mother–child interaction into two groups according to depression levels(i.e.,normal range and mild or higher-level depression).The findings provide a basis for construction of individualized interventions.展开更多
The relationship between language and thought has long been a topic of great interest in the field of linguistics,especially in psycholinguistics.Herder,Humboldt,Trendelenburg Sapir,Whorf,Gui Shichun,Lian Shuneng,and ...The relationship between language and thought has long been a topic of great interest in the field of linguistics,especially in psycholinguistics.Herder,Humboldt,Trendelenburg Sapir,Whorf,Gui Shichun,Lian Shuneng,and Bao Human are some of the well-known scholars who have conducted research on the relationship between language and thought.With regard to the relationship between language and thought,there are three main viewpoints.The first group of scholars,represented by Sapir and Whorf,supports linguistic determinism.Some scholars believe that language and thought are mutually independent.However,others believe that language and thought are inseparable.Beginning from Sapir-Whorf hypothesis and their theory of linguistic determinism and linguistic relativity,this article agrees with the influence of language over thought but refutes the extreme viewpoint of linguistic determinism from several points,proving the independence and mutual influence of language and thought.This article finally concludes that the preferred relationship between language and thought should be that they are independent but interactive.展开更多
Many high schools in the northeastern United States have suffered from declining enrollment due to a declining population of school-age children in the region.Administrators,counselors and teachers perceive many impac...Many high schools in the northeastern United States have suffered from declining enrollment due to a declining population of school-age children in the region.Administrators,counselors and teachers perceive many impacts of the implementation of an international student program at a rural high school.This qualitative case study reveals that the rural high school’s unique nature impacts international student programs,international students influence both school culture and programming,and international students suffer from isolation.School leaders would benefit from considerations in the form of professional development both prior to implementation of an international student program and ongoing throughout its duration.It is important for schools to find ways to respectfully honor student cultures and optimize learning experiences.School leaders would be wise to determine desired size of international student programs and make efforts accordingly to achieve that size for optimal effectiveness for the benefit of both host and international students.Implications and recommendations for future research include further exploration of the perceived experiences of European and Chinese international students,understanding the unique nature of rural high schools and international student experiences,and examination of school practices.展开更多
