A Comparative Analysis of the Origin and Formation Between Chinese Characters and English Alphabets

This research is based on the framework of social constructivism,utilizing the principle of Human Universals as a methodology to compare the similarities and differences between the ideation and formation methods of Chinese characters and English alphabets.Through comparative analysis of the ideation of English letters(pictogramme)and the origin of Chinese characters,known as the"Six Categories Theory,"we discover their alignment in terms of social,traditional,and cultural aspects.This suggests that different ethnic groups share common features in terms of life experience,learning cognitive development,and thinking habits.This study also finds that the origins of English letters and Chinese characters share similar linguistic features in their methods of constructing letters/characters,such as pictographic,ideographic,and semantic characteristics.Exploring these commonalities contributes to promoting learning and communication between Chinese and English characters.Additionally,by focusing on socio-cultural aspects,traditional customs,and cognitive learning,this study aims to break away from the traditional linguistic research approach that solely focuses on language differences.This provides a broader perspective and richer dimensions for Chinese and English language learning,facilitating the development of cross-linguistic and cross-cultural communication.

基于莱昂内尔·特里林对＂外省青年＂的界定,本文指出再现主人公从小地方向大都市流动是19世纪以来英美小说中反复出现的主题。这种流动或生命之旅不仅仅是生活和职业上地理位置的迁移或变化,它反映的是＂外省青年＂在身体或精神层面向上的社会流动。但在描写这一类似的向上流动的趋势背后,英美小说所揭示出的流动动机和表现却大相径庭,即便在同一国度属于不同历史时期的小说中它们也迥然有别。19世纪中叶的英国小说呈现的是主人公社会实用主义自我教育形式的社会流动,而美国此类小说别具一格地描写的是主人公对美国梦的追寻,更确切地说,是他们的幻灭。19和20世纪之交以来,英美这类小说倾向于再现＂外省青年＂的精神历险。文章最后探讨了这种由小地方向大都市流动的动因和启示。

Listed examples of virus transmission epidemics that can be strongly transmitted through the air caused by sunspot change cycle, analyzed the mechanism that promotes the generation of new viruses. A Study of the Negative Influence of English Loan Words from Chinese Origin on the Image of Chinese People——Taking “Tuhao”“Dama” and “Guanxi” for examples

With the increasing Chinese influence on the international language English, words like "tuhao" and "dama" have been included into the Oxford Dictionary. Some loan words from China have undermined the image of Chinese people. This paper, by taking"tuhao","dama"and"guanxi"for examples, analyzes the impact of these new loan words in English on the image of Chinese people. The result shows these words have negative influence on the image of Chinese people. Therefore, countermeasures should be taken to strengthen the spread of China's positive image.

The Transitivity Analysis of A Woman on a Roof

From the perspective of the transitivity theory,this dissertation aims to analyze feminist ideas in Doris Lessing' s novel A Woman on a Roof.The analysis triumphantly proves that the transitivity system in SFG is an effective method in understand ing author' s feminist ideas.It is strongly hoped that this attempt will provide some valuable experience for better appreciating of other English novels.

On Promoting Listening Comprehension of English Majors through Original English Movies

In recent years,with the reform of College English Teaching in China,listening has occupied a great proportion of both the examination content and classroom teaching.When everyone is seeking a high-efficiency,fast teaching method,the use of English original film teaching methods arises spontaneously.Its authentic speaking style,real language environment and rich cultural connotation not only improve the listening comprehension ability of English majors,but also enable students to intuitively understand the culture of Western countries.In this study,by referring to a large number of books and documents,this paper puts forward corresponding strategies for various problems arising from the use of English original film teaching in colleges and universities.English original film teaching can not only create a better learning environment,and stimulate students’interest in learning,but also enable students to actively participate in class discussions.

A Probe Into Origins and Chinese Translation of English Allusions

English Allusions are the unique and fixed expressions which mostly derive from the Western myths, legends, fables, literature and Western histories. They are crystallization of language and culture and closely related with cultural traditions. English Allusions have profound meaning although their forms are rather concise and terse. In daily communication, we always use allusions consciously or unconsciously. But the Chinese translation of English Allusions is a hard task for translators for their hidden and cultural background meaning is not as simple as their form. Therefore, this paper explores the origins and the corresponding translation of English allusions. It proposes three translation strategies in English allusion translation, aiming to help target readers accept the English allusions more easily and better understand Western culture through the use of English allusions.

A Sociological Account of the Translation,Promotion and Reception of Jia Pingwa’s Feidu Outside China

Feidu,a novel by Jia Pingwa,which is regarded as one of the most controversial fiction in China since 1993,has recently come back to the attention of the public in China because of the publication of its English version Ruined City:A Novel in 2016 in the US.The present paper intends to investigate the different receptions of the novel in China and in countries,like Japan,France,and America.Special attention is given to its translation,promotion,and reception in America on the basis of analyses of the para-texts of the English version,such as the preface of the translator,the promotional words on the part of the American publisher,the endorsement of literary scholars both at home and abroad,and the comments on it by critics.It is found that:(1)The novel was enthusiastically accepted and highly acclaimed in France and Japan,which constitutes a sharp contrast with its reception among Chinese readers and scholars;(2)it got a chance to be translated into English and promoted to the readership 23 years after its publication owing to the efforts of“different agents”,among whom were the translator,the editor,the publisher and many influential scholars both at home and abroad;(3)Goldblatt,rather than others,was finally chosen as the translator of the book on account of the cultural,social,symbolic,and economic capitals he possesses;and(4)the state-sponsored English translation and publication of the book in America was part of China’s effort of introducing its contemporary literature outside China.However,in its consecration in the dominant field of world literature,the novel met with obstacles,and its reception not very satisfactory.The authors of the present paper draw on sociological perspectives proposed by Pierre Bourdieu for an explanatory account of the phenomenon.In addition,Actor-Network Translation Studies(ANTS),a sociological framework for translation research proposed by Jonathan Stalling,is also introduced,and its important concepts turn out to have such explanatory power as to give us to a better understanding of the mechanism of literature translation and reception in a foreign culture.
