On News Language from the Perspective of Pragmatics——By Applying Adaption Theory

News is an important medium to transmit social information and reflect social reality. Its effects are irreplaceable and the news language which is a carrier to spread information is in fact influenced by many factors such as society, economy and culture. In order to exert its function to gain different social ends, the presentation of news language owns distinguishing features. This article starts from Verschueren's Adaption Theory to have the final conclusion that the adaption to the social, mental and physical world is the key element for the determination of the originality in news language.

A Comparative Study of the Value Orientations of Foreign Language Education Policies in China and the United States in the 21st Century

Since the 21 st century, both Chinese Mainland and the United States have formulated foreign language education policiesbased on their national needs. This paper makes a comparative study of the value orientations of foreign language education poli-cies in Chinese Mainland and the United States in the 21 st century and finds that both China and the United States have regardedtheir national interests as the essential value orientation of their foreign language education policies. To be specific,the core valueorientation of foreign language education policies in China is to enhance its cultural soft power.In contrast,the core value orienta-tion of foreign language education policies in the United States is to safeguard its national security. Through the comparison of thedifferent value orientations of foreign language education policies of the two countries, the paper provides some reference for the for-eign language education policy-making in Chinese Mainland.

On the Development of Modern Chinese Advertising Language from the Aspect of Value

The value of Subtitles in second language general comprehension——Literuare review

As second language learning becomes popular,various strategies to improve the learning process have been suggested.One of them includes the implantation of audiovisual materials(video authentic materials),which then leads to a discussion of subtitle usage and the value of subtitles in second language learning.This essay focuses on searching for literature that suggests the value of subtitles,especially teletext subtitles,in improving second language learning.This was achieved by reviewing relevant research and experiments.The results suggested that even though uncertainty remained on what kind of materials fit what level of learners,in general,subtitles,especially teletext subtitles,were seen as a beneficial tool in developing learners' listening abilities and skills.

The Study for the Causes of Pragmatic Failure

This paper,based on the questionnaire,deduces the causes of pragmatic failure which are summarized into four:The different value orientation between the two cultures,consisting individualism versus collectivism,power distance,connotation versus denotation,and orientation towards time,negative transfer of equivalent structures and behaviors,insufficient or improper teaching and the scarcity of universal knowledge for communication.

A Comparative Study of Chinese and English Refusal Language Strategies

Using 80 short video examples about refusal language strategies on Douyin short videos as a corpus,this study explores the commonality and individuality,as well as the contradictory relationship between Chinese and British countries in the use of refusal language strategies by combining manual and graphical data analyses.It is found that Chinese people use more indirect ways of using refusal speech acts,and British and American countries use more direct ways of using refusal speech acts.In addition to this,both Chinese and British countries use non-verbal behavior to reject speech as a way of protecting the positive face of the addressee and reducing the threatening behavior to the face of the other party.This study also found that the ambivalent relationship between the emergence of refusal language strategies in both China and Britain is related to their personal psychological state,social values,and personal face.The results of this study have some values for sociology as well as pragmatics,which is conducive to the maintenance of interpersonal relationships.

The Role of Lexical Phrases in Second Language Acquisition

This paper will firstly introduce the categories and main characteristics of English lexical phrases.Then a discussion over the function of English lexical phrases will be carried out from the angle of second language acquisition.The author holds the view that lexical phrases play an important role in second language acquisition,which can be summarized as follows:firstly,the acceleration of language fluency;secondly,the improvement of lexical selection ability;thirdly,the enhancement of pragmatic awareness.

Linguistic Landscape: A Study on the Slogans of Political Demonstration From the Perspective of Pragmatic Identity

Pragmatic identity is chosen and constructed by the speaker on a specific occasion to achieve his owncommunicative purpose. Pragmatic identity is integrated in various fields, but there is little connection withsociology. Language landscape is an important branch of sociolinguistic research. Based on pragmatic identitytheory, this paper intends to explore the characteristics and functions of language landscape, and investigate theconflict between pragmatic identities. The study shows that the slogans of political demonstration have thefollowing four characteristics: powerfulness, conciseness, vividness, and passion. Its function is consistent with thepurpose of the demonstration. The subjects of the study dynamically chose new pragmatic identities in thedemonstration, which conflicted with their previous pragmatic identities.

Language Interaction and the Influence of the Chinese Language

It is necessary that each era has its own value orientation of the language civilization,which forms the motivation,model and pragmatic hypothesis.As for the Chinese language,it is the Chinese philosophical semantics.Language and civilization integrate into each other,so when analyzing linguistics,we shall separate the lexeme on the basis of context.Pragmatics establishes the context for the Chinese language,the basis of which is boosting the education of the Chinese language.As result,pragmatics is not only a branch of linguistics but also the construction of popular linguistics.The Chinese language course is only the concrete implementation of pragmatics and the basic project for the language context in a popular and globalizational style.

The Influence of Negative Language Transfer

Pragmatic Transfer and Foreign Language Proficiency A Study Based on Chinese EFL Learners ＇ Refusal

The present study is designed to investigate the relationship between pragmatic transfer and foreign language proficiency so as to test the hypotheses of previous researchers on this issue.The result indicates that evidence of pragmatic transfer exists in the refusals of learners’English at all three proficiency levels.Furthermore,pragmatic transfer increases as learners’proficiency increases.This phenomenon is possibly related to the traditional English teaching mode in China which put much attention to grammar and form instead of communicative and pragmatic competence development.To solve such problem,pragmatic instruction of English need be advocated:learners’pragmatic awareness should be developed as early as possible and pragmatic knowledge need be added all through the process of language teaching.
