Generalized uncertainty principle from long-range kernel effects:The case of the Hawking black hole temperature

We prove the existence of an analogy between spatial long-range interactions,which are of the convolution-type introduced in non-relativistic quantum mechanics,and the generalized uncertainty principle predicted from quantum gravity theories.As an illustration,black hole temperature effects are discussed.It is observed that for specific choices of the moment's kernels,cold black holes may emerge in the theory.

EQUIVALENT-EFFECT PRINCIPLE AND THE TRANSLATION OF ENGLISH AND CHINESE BRAND NAMES

Translation of brand names is a kind of intercultural communication,which involves regional cultures,consumer psychology,aesthetic interest and some other factors. It is important to achieve the pragmatic equivalence in the brand name translation. This paper first briefly goes over equivalent-effect principles and the features of brand and brand names. Then it analyses the characteristics of English and Chinese brand names and discusses five approaches to the translation of brand names--literal translation;transliteration; mixed translation; flexible translation and zero translation.

A Cross-Sectional Study of the Causes, Effects and Management Strategies for Stress and Burnout among Nurses in the Fako Division, Cameroon

Introduction: Stress and burnout are a reality which nurses encounter and try to cope with especially in the Emergency Department (ED) so that they can provide optimal patient care. Nurses who work in ED are front line providers of immediate medical care needed to stabilize patients. With the known critical shortage of health workforce in Cameroon, nurses are overloaded with work and often experience stress and burnout. Aim: This study aimed at determining the causes, effects and management strategies of stress and burnout among nurses working in the ED in hospitals in the Fako Division, Cameroon. Methods: This study was a descriptive cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of seventy nurses from five different hospitals. A purposive sampling technique was used and data was analyzed using SPSS version 16.0. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire developed from the International Stress Management Scale. Results: The highest reported cause of stress in this study was heavy workload (12.88%) and the least was no experience in handling the challenges of the department. The leading reported effect of stress was the development of musculoskeletal disorders such as joint and back pain (16.48%) and the least effect was contemplating quitting the profession (5.99%). The major management strategy used was humour (8.27%), while the least was crying out stress to feel relieved (2.18%). Conclusion: The major cause of stress and burnout among nurses in our study setting was heavy workload, which mostly results in joint and back pain. Moreover, humour was the prime management strategy for stress and burnout among nurses in the emergency department in the study setting. Thus more nurses should be employed and the working conditions of nurses improved to reduce the workload in the study hospitals.

On the Causes of the Violation of Cooperative Principle

Grice s Cooperative Principle places a great role in explaining how the human speech communication really does.Grice holds that the participants in a conversation should adhere to the Cooperative Principle.However,to our surprise,in actual speech communication,it is many phenomena of the violation of Cooperative Principle that there exist.In the light of Grice ' s Cooperative Principle,probing the causes of the violation of Cooperative Principle,the paper is to reveal some regular patterns of human language communication,to delve into the efficient models stimulating the development of a language,and to offer some research conclusions for promoting the tacit understanding of communication and the standardization of language.

Adverse Effects of Inactivated Foot-and-Mouth Disease Vaccine—Possible Causes Analysis and Countermeasures

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is an infectious and sometimes fatal viral disease that affects cloven-hoofed animals, and Chinese government adopts compulsory immunization measures for FMD. The adverse effects of FMD vaccine to pigs, cattle and goats have been reported increasingly frequent during the spring and autumn seasons when large numbers of farm livestock are vaccinated. The financial losses caused by vaccine adverse effects have been a serious concern for both farmers and primary prevention personnel. There are various causative factors reported to involve into adverse effect of FMD vaccine, including the inappropriate vaccine production, transportation and storage, livestock poor tolerance, and unqualified vaccinating manipulations. Symptomatic treatment and early drug prevention have a certain effect on the adverse effects. To analyze causes and propose countermeasures, in the current study possible reasons during the production and processing procedures of inactivated FMD vaccine were reviewed and corresponding countermeasures were recommended. The review may provide references for better use of vaccine to prevent FMD.

THE PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF Na^+ CHANNEL BLOCKERS AGAINST CELL DAMAGE CAUSED BY ISCHEMIA

In order to observe it blockers of sodium channel obsesses the neuroprotective effect on hippocampal CA 1 pyramidal cell under the condition of transient brain ischemia, the present experiment used 24 male Wistar rats aged 9 months and divided them into four groups. Lidocaine and/or furosemide were injected introcerebroventicularlly (I.C.V). Stained with H E and accounted the CA 1 pyramidal cell numbers by computer in each group suggested following findings: Although 5 μl of 2% lidocaine was injected I.C.V, the results indicated lidocaine didn't have any blockade to pyramidal cell injuries in hippocampal CA 1 area (P<0 05). In the group medicated with 2 5μl of both 2% lidocaine and 2% furosemide, the results showed that the combined approach had a blockade to injuries of pyramidal cells compared with control group (P<0 01). The present experiment indicates that the combined blockade of lidocaine and furosemide injected I.C.V. to Na + channel can prevent the injuries from hippocampal neurons owing to ischemia.

A Probe into Humorous Effects of TV Programs from the Perspective of Cooperative Principle——A Case Study on If You Are the One

This paper probes into the dialogues in If You Are the One based on the theoretical framework of Grice's Cooperative Principle, with a view to discovering humorous effects and conversational implicature in a certain context. Through the analysis of representative dialogues which obey and violate the maxims respectively, this paper concludes that speakers, by appropriately violating the maxims and unconsciously observing the maxims of the CP, manage to achieve humorous effects and conversational implicature. Meanwhile, this paper aims to help people express themselves appropriately to avoid pragmatic failures and achieve the goal of communication.

The Principle of Interaction between Plastic Volumetric and Shear Strains for Unsaturated Soils

The principle of interaction between plastic volumetric and shear strains for rock and soil has been extended to the field of unsaturated soils.Two new interactions of suction-plastic volumetric strain and pore air pressure-plastic volumetric strain appear in the unsaturated state of a soil except the interaction between plastic volumetric and shear strains.It is very important to find that the suction possesses a dual property,which is the origin of generating its special functions.Thereby the effect of the suction on volumetric strain includes two opposite aspects.By means of this property of suction,the physical significance of effective stress parameter,effects of suction on volume change and preconsolidation pressure,and the mechanism of collapse upon wetting all can be explained.In addition,it is theoretically proved by application of this principle of interaction that the critical state line for unsaturated soils exists,and is unique and independent of the stress history.

First-principles investigation of the concentration effect on equilibrium fractionation of Ca isotopes in forsterite

Previous theoretical studies have found that the concentration variations within a certain range have a prominent effect on inter-mineral equilibrium isotope fractionation(10^3 lna).Based on the density functional theory,we investigated how the average Ca–O bond length and the reduced partition function ratios(10^3 lnb)and103lna of 44 Ca/40 Ca in forsterite(Fo)are affected by its Ca concentration.Our results show that Ca–O bond length in forsterite ranges from 2.327 to 2.267 A with the Ca/(Ca+Mg)varying between a narrow range limited by an upper limit of 1/8 and a lower limit of 1/64.However,outside this narrow range,i.e.,Ca/(Ca+Mg)is lower than1/64 or higher than 1/8,Ca–O bond length becomes insensitive to Ca concentration and maintains to be a constant.Because the 10^3 lnb is negatively correlated with Ca–O bond length,the 10^3lnb significantly increases with decreasing Ca/(Ca+Mg)when 1/64<Ca/(Ca+Mg)<2/16.As a consequence,the 10^3lna between forsterite and other minerals also strongly depend on the Ca content in forsterite.Combining previous studies with our results,the heavier Ca isotopes enrichment sequence in minerals is:forsterite[orthopyroxene[clinopyroxene[calcite & diopside[dolomite[aragonite.Olivineand pyroxenes are enriched in heavier Ca isotope compared to carbonates.The 10^3lna between forsterite with a Ca/(Ca+Mg)of 1/64 and clinopyroxene(Ca/Mg=1/1,i.e.,diopside)is up to^0.64%at 1200 K.The large 103lnaFodiopsiderelative to the current analytical precision for Ca isotope measurements suggests that the dependence of10^3 lnaFo-diopsideon temperature can be used as a thermometer,similar to the one based on the 103lna of 44 Ca/40 Ca between orthopyroxene and diopside.These two Ca isotope thermometers both have a precision approximate to that of elemental thermometers and provide independent constraints on temperature.

Alloying effects of V on stability,elastic and electronic properties of TiFe2 via first-principles calculations

The alloying effects of V on structural,elastic and electronic properties of TiFe_2 phase were investigated by the first-principles calculations based on the density functional theory.The calculated energy properties including cohesive energy and formation enthalpy indicate V atom would preferentially substitute on 6h sites of Fe atoms in the lattice of TiFe_2 to form the intermetallic Ti_4Fe_7(V).The calculated results of polycrystalline elastic parameters confirm that the plasticity of TiFe_2 would be improved with the addition of V.By discussing the percentage of elastic anisotropy,anisotropy in linear bulk modulus and directional dependence of elastic modulus,it is revealed that the anisotropy of TiFe_2 and Ti_4Fe_7(V) is small.Finally,the density of states,charge density distribution and Mulliken population for TiFe_2 and Ti_4Fe_7(V) were calculated,suggesting there is a mixed bonding with metallic,covalent and ionic nature in TiFe_2 and Ti_4Fe_7(V) compounds.These results also clarify that the reason for the improvement of plasticity with the addition of V in TiFe_2 is the weakened bonding of covalent feature between Ti and V atoms.

The effects of the environmental factors on Laminaria disease caused by alginic acid decomposing bacteria

-The rot disease of Laminaria occurs often in nurseries of sporeling and commercial cultivation in the sea and results in economic loss greatly. Usually the disease outbreaks accompanied with massive multiplication of alginic acid decomposing bacteria. From the section of the decaying Lamuutria which resulted from the inoculation of alginic acid decomposing bacteria, it was observed that the bacteria invaded the epiderm of the Laminaria surface at first, then entered the ex-odermis, endodermis and pith. In addition, there were a great amount of bacteria in the intercellular region and a lot of free cells of the algae in the decaying areas. The wall of some free cells was decomposed, which led to soft tissue or disintegration. Alginic acid decomposing bacteria are normal epiphytic microorganisms growing on Lamuutria surface. These bacteria do not cause disease at normal environmental conditions. The experiments showed that the unfavourable conditions, e. g. , wounding, overcrowding, high temperature reduced the ability of antibacterial activity and made the algae more susceptible to the pathogens and favoured the multiplication of alginic acid decomposing bacteria and finally led to the disease outbreak. The unfavourable environmental factors which resulted from a variety of reasons were the main cause of the disease.

The First-Principle Calculation of La-doping Effect on Piezoelectricity in Tetragonal KNN Crystal

The La-dopping effect on the piezoelectricity in the K0.5Na0.5NbO3 （KNN） crystal with a tetragonal phase is investigated for the first time using the first-principle calculation based on density functional theory. The full potentiallinearized augumented plane wave plus local orbitals （APW-LO） method and the supercell method are used in the calculation for the KNN crystal with and without the La doping. The results show that the piezoelectricity originates from the strong hybridization between the Nb atom and the O atom, and the substitution of the K or Na atom by the La impurity atom introduces the anisotropic relaxation and enhances the piezoelectricity at first and then restrains the hybridization of the Nb-O atoms when the La doping content further increases.

CLINICAL STUDY ON THE TIME OF TREATING CHEMOTHERAPY INDUCED TOXIC AND SIDE EFFECTS IN MALIGNANT TUMOR PATIENTS BY ACUPOINT INJECTION OF ASTRAGALUS ROOT INJECTION

Objective: To investigate the suitable time of treating virulent and side effects of chemotherapy for malignant tumor by acupoint injection of Astragalus Root injection. Methods: Sixty three patients with malignant tumor were divided into three groups: prevention treatment (PT) group (n=23 cases),post chemotherapy treatment (PCT) group( n=22 cases), Western medicine (WM) group ( n=18 cases). The patients in PT, PCT and WM groups were treated respectively from the fifth day on before chemotherapy and from the first day on after chemotherapy, 18 days in all. The patients in WM group were administered Batilol and Leucogen from the first day on after chemotherapy. Changes of leukocytes and immunoglobulin before and after treatment were observed. Results: 1) Acupoint injection of Astragalus Root injectio could increase the number of leukocytes and immunoglobulin content and its effect was better than that of Western medicine (P<0.05); 2) The effect of PT group was better than that of PCT group in preventing and treating virulent and side effects of chemotherapy (P<0.05). Conclusion: It should be stressed on prevention of malignant tumor by using acupoint injection of Astragalus Root for relieving virulent and side effects of chemotherapy.

Cooperative Principle and the Equivalent Effect in Translation

The cooperative principle is an important theory of pragmatics,concerning how to maximally achieve communicative goal.While translation serves as a communicative medium,it should also observe the conversational rules—cooperative principle to achieve the equivalent effect.This paper tries to explore the issue from the perspective of cooperative principle.

The Application of the Principle of the Equivalent Effect in the Translation of Metaphors

American linguist and translator Eugene Nida put forward the principle of equivalent effect, which states clearly that the same information, though expressed by two different languages, must have the equivalent effect on the SL receptors as well as on the TL readers. The article will mainly discuss the translation of metaphors by the principle of equivalent effect.
