Tanzania is one of the countries in Africa that has engaged in the projects for construction of the electrified Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). However, lack of integration of transportation and land-use planning threat...Tanzania is one of the countries in Africa that has engaged in the projects for construction of the electrified Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). However, lack of integration of transportation and land-use planning threatens economic sustainability of the SGR project. This study was carried out for the purpose of finding-out how transportation can be integrated with land-use planning for economic sustainability of the project. The study was carried-out by using qualitative research approach through demonstration as case study. Findings show that construction of the SGR is not integrated with land-use planning around the stations and along the SGR corridor. It is concluded that economic sustainability of the SGR projects can be achieved by integration of transport and land-use planning. As demonstrated, it is recommended to deliberate for integration of transportation and land-use planning in the SGR projects of which the prime land within Transit Stations can be efficiently used by using Transit Oriented Development and secure more land for production activities around the Transit Stations and along the SGR corridor.展开更多

The networking of microgrids has received significant attention in the form of a smart grid.In this paper,a set of smart railway stations,which is assumed as microgrids,is connected together.It has been tried to manag...The networking of microgrids has received significant attention in the form of a smart grid.In this paper,a set of smart railway stations,which is assumed as microgrids,is connected together.It has been tried to manage the energy exchanged between the networked microgrids to reduce received energy from the utility grid.Also,the operational costs of stations under various conditions decrease by applying the proposed method.The smart railway stations are studied in the presence of photovoltaic(PV)units,energy storage systems(ESSs),and regenerative braking strategies.Studying regenerative braking is one of the essential contributions.Moreover,the stochastic behaviors of the ESS’s initial state of energy and the uncertainty of PV power generation are taken into account through a scenario-based method.The networked microgrid scheme of railway stations(based on coordinated operation and scheduling)and independent operation of railway stations are studied.The proposed method is applied to realistic case studies,including three stations of Line 3 of Tehran Urban and Suburban Railway Operation Company(TUSROC).The rolling stock is simulated in the MATLAB environment.Thus,the coordinated operation of networked microgrids and independent operation of railway stations are optimized in the GAMS environment utilizing mixed-integer linear programming(MILP).展开更多

The main excitation source is the train passing throug...Results of in-situ vibration measurement carried out at Tianjin West Elevated Railway Station which has the trains running on the station structure were reported. The main excitation source is the train passing through the station. Vibration measurements were recorded in the vertical direction of the supporting track beam, the platform and the steel truss beam of the waiting hall, as well as in the vertical, longitudinal and transverse directions of the roof arch base of the station. Acceleration time responses were obtained. The maximum value, vibration level and one-third octave band RMS spectra of the measured accelerations were studied. The propagation of vibration in different structural floors was discussed. The influence of train speed, distance to the vibration source and the type of train on the structural vibration were analyzed. Results show that the vibration level increases with the train speed, while it attenuates with the distance to the track. Furthermore, the vibration responses of different structural floors were compared, and it is noted that the vertical vibration of the bottom slab of the platform is most severe and the transverse vibration of the roof arch base is the smallest. The results provide reference on the vibration characteristics and vibration energy distribution of this type of "Train on building frame" system used as an elevated railway station.展开更多

The single-slope log-distance model is used to analyze the path-loss (PL), and the distribution of shadow fading (SF) is obtained by statistical methods, which shows that the normal distribution fits the samples well. Ricean K-factor is analyzed by the method of moments, and the variation of K-factor is given along the measured route. Small scale such as delay spread and Doppler behavior are parameterized. Based on empirical channel measurement, this paper provides parameters for the evaluation and simulation work on viaduct scenarios of high-speed railway.展开更多

Using the established model, and choosing vehicle lateral acceleration and wheel suspension as the evaluation indexes, dynamic characteristic of vehicle traveling in turnout and adjacent area on main line was analyzed, and effects on travelling safety and stability of train aroused by length variation of straight lines were calculated based on analyzing the damping rules of vibration. The results show that, a certain length of straight lines can alleviate the vibration aroused in turnout and curve(turnout), length of straight lines connecting turnouts in different sections on main line was proposed to meet the demand of traveling stability, and shortening or cancelation of straight line for the scale limitation of station yard has less influence on operation safety of train.展开更多
A station carrying capacity calculation method based on the station blocking time method is proposed.According to the station track circuit groups,signal system and station topological structure,the station blocks are...A station carrying capacity calculation method based on the station blocking time method is proposed.According to the station track circuit groups,signal system and station topological structure,the station blocks are divided and the division principle is proposed.Then the train routes model is built based on the station blocking time method.The calculation methods of the train arrival headway and departure headway at the station are redefined.The optimal capacity calculation model and algorithm based on a given train operation plan are studied by analyzing the optimal operation sequence of trains with different train speeds and operation types.With the case study of Jinan West Railway Station of Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway in China,the minimum arrival headway between two trains with the speeds of 300 and 250 km/h can be reduced to 3.0 and 2.7 min,respectively.The maximum calculation results of the calculation methods can be increased from 13 train/h to 16 train/h.This method can increase the number of trains within a period of time in a station while meeting the transport organization and passenger service requirements.展开更多

Pathfinder was employed as the simulation platform and a typical HSRS in a medinm-sized city in China was sele...A simulation study on occupant evacuation in high-speed railway stations (HSRSs) was presented in China. Pathfinder was employed as the simulation platform and a typical HSRS in a medinm-sized city in China was selected for model development. The model was carefully calibrated and validated by comparing simulation results with field data. Evacuation efficiency could be improved with the increased door width while such effect decreased when the door width reached a marginal value. And the marginal value varied under different occupant densities. An exponential function between evacuation lime and occupant density was fitted, indicating that occupant density significantly affected evacuation efficiency. A set of different evacuation strategies were compared, in terms of their evacuation performances. It was found that a balanced door usage would result in more efficient evacuations in HSRSs. Thus occupant flows were suggested to be managed considering door capacity. To avoid potential safety issues caused by such strategy ( e. g. , more occupants could be evacuated from a smaller area designed with higher door capacity ), occupants needed to enhance their awareness of following evacuation guidance instead of panic escape in emergencies. Moreover, such safety issues could also be avoided during the design phase that the evacuation capacity was designed to be proportional to the room capacity for each floor. The results of this study provide valuable information for HSRS design and flow management in China.展开更多

Conventionally, only one service is sent over the fiber at a time. However, many different services can be simultaneously conveyed in railway stations such as passenger information service, cellular phone, Wi-Fi... The objective of the work proposed in this paper is to demonstrate the potential benefits of transmitting radio signals over fiber in a railway environment. The main idea is to exploit the full capacity of the fiber by transmitting multiple services using the same fiber. Since, different services are operating in different frequency bands; we propose a new multiplexing technique called Mode Group Diversity Multiplexing (MGDM) to ensure the transmission of multiple services using the same fiber, without additional infrastructure. There are numerous advantages of the proposed technique, e.g., faster and reliable data exchange, high resolution video surveillance capability, high data rate information exchange in railway stations. We present, in this paper, the physical characteristics of optical fibers, performance of MGDM multiplexing technique, and the influence of the laser excitation conditions at the entrance of the fiber on the performances of the system.展开更多

Realizing enterprise railway dispatching plan automatically by computer, which can improve the level of the station scheduling and transport efficiency, at the same time can reduce the scheduling cost. Based on the basic rules of marshalling and dispatching of railway freight trains at enterprise stations, this paper investigates the site of special railway line at enterprise stations and establishes the space of dispatching state and regulation base according to the actual situation. The information feedback model is designed according to the train information, carriage information and real-time information of the track of the station. Based on the analysis of the railway regulation and the demand of the station, establish the scheduling rule method library. Based on the state space and feedback model of the station, using the scheduling rule method library, this paper designs an enterprise railway automatic marshalling algorithm with a certain universality, and realizes automatic train marshalling and scheduling operation. Considering the economic benefit of the station and the efficiency of the marshalling model, this paper introduces the time cost function and applies the improved greedy algorithm to optimize the automatic marshalling model, realizing the optimal marshalling of railway station in a short time.展开更多

文摘A station carrying capacity calculation method based on the station blocking time method is proposed.According to the station track circuit groups,signal system and station topological structure,the station blocks are divided and the division principle is proposed.Then the train routes model is built based on the station blocking time method.The calculation methods of the train arrival headway and departure headway at the station are redefined.The optimal capacity calculation model and algorithm based on a given train operation plan are studied by analyzing the optimal operation sequence of trains with different train speeds and operation types.With the case study of Jinan West Railway Station of Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway in China,the minimum arrival headway between two trains with the speeds of 300 and 250 km/h can be reduced to 3.0 and 2.7 min,respectively.The maximum calculation results of the calculation methods can be increased from 13 train/h to 16 train/h.This method can increase the number of trains within a period of time in a station while meeting the transport organization and passenger service requirements.

文摘A simulation study on occupant evacuation in high-speed railway stations (HSRSs) was presented in China. Pathfinder was employed as the simulation platform and a typical HSRS in a medinm-sized city in China was selected for model development. The model was carefully calibrated and validated by comparing simulation results with field data. Evacuation efficiency could be improved with the increased door width while such effect decreased when the door width reached a marginal value. And the marginal value varied under different occupant densities. An exponential function between evacuation lime and occupant density was fitted, indicating that occupant density significantly affected evacuation efficiency. A set of different evacuation strategies were compared, in terms of their evacuation performances. It was found that a balanced door usage would result in more efficient evacuations in HSRSs. Thus occupant flows were suggested to be managed considering door capacity. To avoid potential safety issues caused by such strategy ( e. g. , more occupants could be evacuated from a smaller area designed with higher door capacity ), occupants needed to enhance their awareness of following evacuation guidance instead of panic escape in emergencies. Moreover, such safety issues could also be avoided during the design phase that the evacuation capacity was designed to be proportional to the room capacity for each floor. The results of this study provide valuable information for HSRS design and flow management in China.

文摘Nowadays, because of its wide bandwidth and high communication capability, the optical fiber is more and more used for high data rate transmission of information in railway environments. Conventionally, only one service is sent over the fiber at a time. However, many different services can be simultaneously conveyed in railway stations such as passenger information service, cellular phone, Wi-Fi... The objective of the work proposed in this paper is to demonstrate the potential benefits of transmitting radio signals over fiber in a railway environment. The main idea is to exploit the full capacity of the fiber by transmitting multiple services using the same fiber. Since, different services are operating in different frequency bands; we propose a new multiplexing technique called Mode Group Diversity Multiplexing (MGDM) to ensure the transmission of multiple services using the same fiber, without additional infrastructure. There are numerous advantages of the proposed technique, e.g., faster and reliable data exchange, high resolution video surveillance capability, high data rate information exchange in railway stations. We present, in this paper, the physical characteristics of optical fibers, performance of MGDM multiplexing technique, and the influence of the laser excitation conditions at the entrance of the fiber on the performances of the system.
文摘Railway marshalling transportation is a crucial part of enterprise production supply chain, with the development of national economy;enterprises face more and more pressure on station railway marshalling operation. Realizing enterprise railway dispatching plan automatically by computer, which can improve the level of the station scheduling and transport efficiency, at the same time can reduce the scheduling cost. Based on the basic rules of marshalling and dispatching of railway freight trains at enterprise stations, this paper investigates the site of special railway line at enterprise stations and establishes the space of dispatching state and regulation base according to the actual situation. The information feedback model is designed according to the train information, carriage information and real-time information of the track of the station. Based on the analysis of the railway regulation and the demand of the station, establish the scheduling rule method library. Based on the state space and feedback model of the station, using the scheduling rule method library, this paper designs an enterprise railway automatic marshalling algorithm with a certain universality, and realizes automatic train marshalling and scheduling operation. Considering the economic benefit of the station and the efficiency of the marshalling model, this paper introduces the time cost function and applies the improved greedy algorithm to optimize the automatic marshalling model, realizing the optimal marshalling of railway station in a short time.
