[Objective] The aim was to modify the application amount of N,P and K fertilizer so as to provide a reference for establishing balanced fertilization index system of banana.[Method]The N,P and K fertilizer "3414" test was carried out on banana, and then regression analysis was performed on the fertilizer effect.Ternary quadratic, binary quadric and one-variable quadratic regression equations for the fertilizer effect on the banana yield were constructed.[Result]Suitable amount of N,P and K fertilizer had significant yield improving effect, whereas overdose of fertilizer application led to decreasing of utilization rate of fertilizer. Therefore, suitable amount of N,P and K fertilizer should be selected in production. It could be concluded that one-variable quadratic regression equations was the best model to calculate the suitable fertilizer amount. The best yield range of banana in the tested field was 44.193-45.904 t/hm2,while the corresponding optimum application amount of N,P2O5 and K2O was 795.1,262.3 and 1 236.9 kg/hm2 respectively, and the ratio among nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are 1∶0.33∶1.55.[Conclusion]The result in this study could provide references for the soil types similar to the tested field. 展开更多

The aim of the study is to investigate the absorption laws of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, and proper nitrogen application in Chuanxiangyou 9838 under no-tillage cultivation. Five nitrogen application treatments were designed to analyze the absorption laws of N, P and K, and to discuss the effects of different N fertilizer application amounts on yield and yield composition factors of Chuanxiangyou 9838. The results showed that gross nutrient absorption in Chuanxiangyou 9838 was greatly varied at different developmental stages under rice-rape rotation with no-tillage. The maximum N absorption in Chuanxiangyou 9838 appeared at jointing stage followed by heading stage, thirdly the tillefing stage ; the P absorption in Chuanxiangyou 9838 presented the consecutively slight increase during seedling stage and mature stage ; the K absorption in Chuanxiangyou 9838 was mainly conducted from jointing stage to heading stage, during which K absorption accounts for 73.4% of the total absorption in whole developmental stage. Consequently, N fertilizer should be applied earlier ( before jointing stage), P fertilizer is suitable as base fertilizer and application of K fertilizer should be preferably conducted at early-middle period. When the yield reached 11 t/hm^2, the optimal N application amount in Chuanxiangyou 9838 was about 165 kg/hm^2. 展开更多

The success of the Green Revolution largely relies on fertilizers, and a new Green Revolution is very much needed to use fertilizers more economically and efficiently, as well as with more environmental responsibility. The use efficiency of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium is controlled by complex gene networks that co-ordinate uptake, re-distribution, assimilation, and storage of these nutrients. Great progress has been made in breeding nutrient-efficient crops by molecularly engineering root traits desirable for efficient acquisition of nutrients from soil, transporters for uptake, redistribution and homeostasis of nutrients, and enzymes for efficient assimilation. Regulatory and transcription factors modulating these processes are also valuable in breeding crops with improved nutrient use efficiency and yield performance. 展开更多

The brown planthopper(BPH),Nilaparvata lugens(St?l),appeared as a devastating pest of rice in Asia. Experiments were conducted to study the effects of three nutrients, nitrogen(N),phosphorus(P) and potassium(K),on BPH and its host rice plants. Biochemical constituents of BPH and rice plants with varying nutrient levels at different growth stages, and changes in relative water content(RWC) of rice plants were determined in the laboratory. Feeding of BPH and the tolerance of rice plants to BPH with different nutrient levels were determined in the nethouse. Concentrations of N and P were found much higher in the BPH body than in its host rice plants, and this elemental mismatch is an inherent constraint on meeting nutritional requirements of BPH. Nitrogen was found as a more limiting element for BPH than other nutrients in rice plants. Application of N fertilizers to the rice plants increased the N concentrations both in rice plants and BPH while application of P and K fertilizers increased their concentrations in plant tissues only but not in BPH. Nitrogen application also increased the level of soluble proteins and decreased silicon content in rice plants, which resulted in increased feeding of BPH with sharp reduction of RWC in rice plants ultimately caused susceptible to the pest. P fertilization increased the concentration of P in rice plant tissues but not changed N,K,Si,free sugar and soluble protein contents, which indicated little importance of P to the feeding of BPH and tolerance of plant against BPH. K fertilization increased K content but reduced N,Si,free sugar and soluble protein contents in the plant tissues which resulted in the minimum reduction of RWC in rice plants after BPH feeding, thereby contributed to higher tolerance of rice plants to brown planthopper. 展开更多

[Objective] To study the effects of Zinc on the yield,nitrogen/phosphorus/potassium/Zinc uptake and distribution of different genotypes of maize.[Method] Using two different genotypes of maize as materials, the effects of Zn on the yield,N/P/K /Zn uptake and distribution of different genotypes of maize were studied by pot cultivation.[Result] Appropriate Zn supply could improve the grain number per kernel. The Zn content in different organs of maize showed little difference under low Zn treatment (Zn0,Zn1).With the increase of Zn supply,Zn content in leaf, stem and sheath rapidly increased, but the increasing amplitude of Zn content in the kernel and bract were less. The excessive Zn in maize was mainly translocated in lower organs to reduce the damage of them to plants.Different Zn supply levels had less effects on the absorption and translocation of N,P and K in low-Zn insensitive variety Mudan 9.While the absorption and translation of N,P,K in low Zn sensitive variety (Sidan 19) was more easily influenced by the amount of Zn supplied.[Conclusion] Appropriate Zn supply could enhance the maize yield and utilization rate of N and K,and reduce the absorption and utilization of P. 展开更多

The effects of the salt stress on plant growth are usually increased by the water stress. We studied the impact of both stresses in simultaneous pulses of drought and salinity on Paspalum dilatatum. This forage species is native to South America, spread in grasslands in many tropical, subtropical, and temperate areas of the world, and very common in grasslands of the Flooding Pampas of Argentina.Mimicking what happens in nature. We compared a pot experiment,a non-stressed control against water stress for a month(midpoint between field capacity and wilting point),and two saline stresses(moderate,6 d·Sm^(−1)and strong,12 d·Sm^(−1)),also for a month.Aerial biomass(green leaf;non-leaf green material, and dry material)and roots were harvested, weighed, and analyzed for nitrogen, phosphorus, and cations. The biomass of all components significantly decreased when both stresses were applied.Water plus strong saline stress reduced by half the total biomasses, compared to the control. The proportion of aerial biomass/root biomass ratio as well as aerial green component/dry materials ratio tend to decrease when subjected to both stresses.Nitrogen concentration in plants was not significantly affected, but phosphorus concentration increased in aerial biomass components, from 0.10 to 0.18 mg·kg^(−1)between the extreme treatments, but did not change in roots.Sodium concentration in plants increased(i.e.,in green leave sodium(Na)increased from 0.27 to 2.01 mg·kg^(−1)between the extreme treatments),whereas other cations either did not change or decreased, affecting the ratios between them.Sodium performance allows us to infer that the Na accumulation of P.dilatatum behaves in an intermediate range, compared to very tolerant to salts or non-salt tolerant species of the Paspalum genus. In agreement, when salts were applied in the form of a pulse,P.dilatatum tolerated higher salinity than that found by other authors for the same species, using continuous salinity. 展开更多

Microalgal lipids are regarded as main future feedstock of biofuels for its higher efficiency of accumulation and sus- tainable production. In order to investigate the effect of various nitrogen to phosphorus ratios on cells growth, chlorophyll content and accumulation of lipids in Dunaliella tertiolecta, experiments were carried out in modified microalgal medium with inorganic nitrogen (nitrate-nitrogen) or organic nitrogen (urea-nitrogen) as the sole nitrogen source at initial N:P ratios ranging from 1:1 to 32:1. The favorable N:P of 16:1 in the nitrate-N or urea-N medium yielded the maximum cell density and specific growth rate. Decrease in chlorophyll content were observed at the N:P of 4:1 in both nitrate-N and urea-N cultures. It was also observed that the maximum lipids concentration was obtained at the N:P of 4:1 in both nitrate and urea nutrient medium. The lipid productivity and lipid content of cultures in the urea-N medium at the N:P of 4: lwere markedly higher than those from cultures with other N:P ratios (p〈 0.05). The results of this work illustrate the possibility that higher ratios of nitrogen to phosphorus have enhancing effect on cells growth of D. tertiolecta. Conversely, higher lipid accumulation is associated with a decrease in chlorophyll content under lower ratios of nitro- gen to phosphorus. The results confirm the hypothesis of this study that a larger metabolic flux has been channeled to lipid accumu- lation in D. tertiolecta cells when the ratios of nitrogen to phosphorus drop below a critical level. 展开更多

The growth and interspecies competition of two red tide algal species Thalassiosira pseudonana Hasle et Heimdal and Gymnodinium sp. were studied under different concentration ratios of nitrogen to phosphorus, and the algal hatch culture experiments were conducted. The physiological and biochemical indexes were measured periodically, including the maximum comparing growth rate, relative growth rate, average double time and chlorophyll a concentration. The results showed that when the concentration ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus was 16: 1, the maximum comparing growth rate, relative growth rate and chlorophyll a concentration of Thalassiosira pseudonana all reached the highest, and average double time was the shortest. This implied that the optimal concentration ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus of Thalassiosira pseudonana is 16: 1. When the concentration ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus was 6:1, the maximum comparing growth rate, relative growth rate and the chlorophyll a concentration of Gymnodinium sp. reached the highest, and average double time was the shortest, so the optimal concentration ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus of Gymnodinium sp. is 6: 1. From the growth curves as indicated both in the cell density and the chlorophyll a concentration, it is suggested that the influence of concentration ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus on the chlorophyll a concentration and the cell density are almost the same. Different concentration ratios of nitrogen to phosphorus had weak influence on community succession and the competition between the two algae. Gymnodinium sp. may use the phosphorus in vivo for growth, so it is important to pay attention to the concealment of phosphorus, in order to avoid the outbreak of red tide. On the basis of the importance of nitrogen and phosphorus and the ratio of their concentration, the possible outbreak mechanism of red tide of the two algae was also discussed. 展开更多

The ratio of nitrogen/phosphorus (N/P) is known to affect cell proliferation of some marine micro algae. We evaluated the effect of N/P ratios on the proliferation and succession of phytoplankton using five marine micro algae species. We used two sources of nitrogen, NH4Cl (N1) and urea (N2), and a single source of phosphorous, NaH2PO4(P). The optimal N/P ratio that differed among the five species was affected by the source of nitrogen, being as follows (N1/P, N2/P in order): Thalassiosira sp. (30/1, 20/1), Heterosigma akashiwo (30/1, 30/1), Chroornonas salina (20/1, 30/1), Chaetoceros gracilis (40/1, 60/1), and A lexandrium sp. (10/1, 30/1). Thus, the source of nitrogen must be considered when analyzing the N/P ratio. Our results provide insight for predicting phytoplankton succession in coastal waters and may be used to forecast the potential risk of harmful algal blooms. 展开更多

In order to generate scientifically-based comparative information to improve fertilization efficiency and reduce nutrient loss, 610 samples of 122 soil profiles were collected at the 0–60 cm depth to compare soil nutrient contents including soil organic matter(SOM), total nitrogen(TN), total phosphorus(TP), available phosphorus(AP), and available potassium(AK) among different slope positions in a Mollisol farmland area of Northeast China. The contents of SOM and TN typically decreased with increased soil depth at back and bottom slope. Soil loss and deposition tended to decrease SOM and TN at the 0–20 cm soil depth on both the back slope and the slope bottom. The TP firstly decreased from 0–20 cm to 30–40 cm, and then not constantly increased at the back slope and the bottom slope. Due to the characteristics of soil nutrients and crop absorption, the contents of both AP and AK were typically the highest at the summit, followed by the slope bottom and the back slope in the 0–20 cm layer. Generally, in order to sustain the high soil productivity and protect the environment, attention should be paid to soil conservation on back slope; in addition, additional N and P fertilizer is necessary on the back slope. 展开更多

Forest recovery may be influenced by several factors, of which fire is the most critical. However, moderate-and long-term effects of fire on forest recovery are less researched in Northwest China. Thus, the effects of different forest recovery time after fire(1917(served as the control), 1974, 1983 and 1995) and fire severities(low, moderate and high) on larch(Larix sibirica Ledeb.) forest were investigated in the Kanas National Nature Reserve(KNNR), Northwest China in 2017.This paper analyzed post-fire changes in stand density, total basal area(TBA), litter mass, soil organic carbon(SOC) and soil nutrients(total nitrogen, total phosphorus and total potassium) with one-way analyses of variance. Results indicate that litter mass, TBA, SOC and soil nutrients increased with increasing recovery time after fire and decreasing fire severity, while the stand density showed an opposite response. The effects of fire disturbance on SOC and soil nutrients decreased with increasing soil depth. Moreover, we found that the time of more than 43 a is needed to recover the litter mass, TBA, SOC and soil nutrients to the pre-fire level. In conclusion, high-severity fire caused the greatest variations in stand structure and soil of larch forest, and low-severity fire was more advantageous for post-fire forest stand structure and soil recovery in the KNNR.Therefore, low-severity fire can be an efficient management mean through reducing the accumulation of forest floor fuel of post-fire forests in the KNNR, Northwest China. 展开更多

Yield performance in cereal and legume intercropping is related to nutrient management, however, the yield response of companion crops to nitrogen(N)input is inconclusive and only limited efforts have focused on rationed phosphorous(P)fertilization. In this study, two multi-year field experiments were implemented from 2014-2019 under identical conditions. Two factors in a randomized complete block design were adopted in both experiments. In field experiment 1,the two factors included three planting patterns(mono-cropped wheat(MW),mono-cropped faba bean(MF),and wheat and faba bean intercropping(W//F))and four N application rates(N0,0 kg N ha^(-1);N1,90 and 45 kg N ha^(-1) for wheat and faba beans,respectively;N2,180 and 90 kg N ha^(-1) for wheat and faba beans, respectively;and N3,270 and 135 kg N ha^(-1) for wheat and faba beans, respectively). In field experiment 2,the two factors included three P application rates(P0,0 kg P_(2)O_(5) ha^(-1);P1,45 kg P_(2)O_(5) ha^(-1);and P2,90 kg P_(2)O_(5) ha^(-1))and the same three planting patterns(MW,MF,and W//F).The yield performances of inter-and mono-cropped wheat and faba beans under different N and P application rates were analyzed and the optimal N and P rates for intercropped wheat(IW)and MW were estimated. The results revealed that intercropping favored wheat yield and was adverse to faba bean yield.Wheat yield increased by 18-26%,but faba bean yield decreased by 5-21% in W//F compared to MW and MF,respectively. The stimulated IW yield drove the yield advantage in W//F with an average land equivalent ratio(LER)of 1.12.N and P fertilization benefited IW yield, but reduced intercropped faba bean(IF)yield.Nevertheless, the partial LER of wheat(pLER_(wheat))decreased with increasing N application rates, and the partial LER of faba bean(pLER_(faba bean))decreased with increasing P application rates. Thus,LER decreased as N input increased and tended to decline as P rates increased.IW maintained a similar yield as MW,even under reduced 40-50% N fertilizer and 30-40% P fertilizer conditions. The estimated optimum N application rates for IW and MW were 150 and 168 kg ha^(-1),respectively,and 63 and 62 kg ha^(-1) for P_(2)O_(5),respectively.In conclusion,W//F exhibited yield advantages due to stimulated IW yield, but the intercropping yield benefit decreased as N and P inputs increased. Thus,it was concluded that modulated N and P rates could maximize the economic and ecological functions of intercropping.Based on the results, rates of 150 kg N ha^(-1) and 60 kg P_(2)O_(5) ha^(-1) are recommended for IW production in southwestern China and places with similar conditions. 展开更多

Three equal field plots were cultivated with respectively wheat, field pea and faba bean. The common conventional production technology, including the use of chemical fertilizers was applied in wheat, but no fertilizers at all were used in faba bean and field pea plots. Atter legume harvesting, forty day old broccoli and cauliflower seedlings were transplanted to each of them according to three replications randomized block design. The transplanting was conducted at equal planting density, and common organic production practices were applied in entire production cycle. The legume crops improved soil fertility by increasing total soil N (Nitrogen) and improving P (Phosphorus) and K (Potassium) availability to the subsequent crops. As a result, an enhanced vegetative growth, improved curd setting and increased average curd weight was found in broccoli and cauliflower. However, there were significant differences between legume crops themselves regarding the proved benefits to the subsequent crops, confirming a clear advantage of faba bean versus field pea. A significantly higher above ground biomass was recorded in cauliflower plants followed faba bean, compared with field pea and wheat, but no difference was found regarding the biomass production in broccoli. The higher percentage of plants set curds (either broccoli or cauliflower) was obtained in the variants followed faba bean and then field pea. The same was true regarding total curd yield and the average curd weight for both: broccoli and cauliflower. 展开更多

Applying these fertilizers significantly reduced soil pH values in allcases and followed sequences of AS > MCP > KCl, MCP > KCl > AS and KCl > AS > MCP for the paddy, calcareous and red soils, respectively. The AS-induced reduction of pH in the three soils followedthe sequence of red soil > paddy soil > calcareous soil, while in MCP and KCl systems the reductionof pH followed the sequences of calcareous soil > paddy soil > red soil and red soil > calcareoussoil > paddy soil, respectively. The interactions of the NPK fertilizers on pH were significant. MCPplus KCl or MCP plus AS reduced pH values more than the fertilizers applied solely in the paddysoil, but AS partly counteracted the effect of MCP on pH in the 1 d sample of the calcareous soil. The effect of MCP on pH was trivial when MCP was applied in combination with KCl or AS in the redsoil. When applied in combination with AS, KCl did not affect soil pH initially, but suppressed thereduction of pH at the later incubation stage, which was related to inhibition of nitrification byKCl in the soils. 展开更多

While many harmful algal blooms have been associated with increasing eutrophication, not all species respond similarly and the increasing challenge, especially for resource managers, is to determine which blooms are related to eutrophication and to understand why particular species proliferate under specific nutrient conditions. The overall goal of this brief review is to describe why nutrient loads are not changing in stoichiometric proportion to the "Redfield ratio", and why this has important consequences for algal growth. Many types of harmful algae appear to be able to thrive, and/or increase their production of toxins, when nutrient loads are not in proportion classically identified as Redfield ratios. Here we also describe some of the physiological mechanisms of different species to take up nutrients and to thrive under conditions of nutrient imbalance. 展开更多

Nutritional characteristics determine tree stock quality to a considerable extent. Exponential fertilization can induce nutrient reserves within juvenile trees, but its validity on poplar is contingent on interaction with a scientific irrigation regime due to limited water resources under global warming. In the present study, we raised 3200 Populus 9 euramericana cv. '74/76' cuttings under four irrigation regimes of 0(I0), 60 %(I60), 80 %(I80), and100 %(I100) of field capacity for soil moisture content with or without(control) the employment of nitrogen(N) addition delivered as exponential fertilization at the rate of 8 g N cutting^(-1)(E8) in an open-air nursery in Beijing, China. Both height and diameter increased with the increment of soil moisture ratio or in response to exponential fertilization(EF) without any interactive effects. In general, concentrations of N, phosphorus(P),and potassium(K) declined with time in stem but foliar N concentration did not change. Under the I100 regime, EF increased foliar N concentration relative to the control but failed to affect N concentration in stem in September, when both N concentration and N content were increased by EF under the I80 regime. Stem-K content and concentration by EF under the I80 regime also increased in September, therefore EF-treated cuttings had a higher ratio of K content in stem to that in whole plant(%ANAR). Vector diagnosis for nutritional status indicated that EF resulted in dilution of K concentration but induced a steady-state P uptake in leaves under all irrigation regimes. Therefore, EF of N addition could promote N uptake to leaves of P. 9 euramericana cv. '74/76' cuttings, but it had a null effect on N and P reserves in stem and impaired K reserves. In conclusion, the irrigation regime of 80 % field capacity of soil moisture content was suggested for the culture of juvenile P. 9 euramericana cv. '74/76' cuttings. As the interactive meaning, EF was also suggested for its excellent promotion on both N and K uptakes. 展开更多
