The predicates of the method were derived from the na...This paper described an approach to make inferences on Chinese information using first order predicate logic, which could be used in the semantic query of Chinese. The predicates of the method were derived from the natural language using rule based LFT, the axiom set was generated by extracting lexicon knowledge from HowNet, and the first order predicate inferences were made through symbol connection of center words. After all these were done, the evaluation and possible improvements of the method were provided. The experiment result shows a higher precision rate than that traditional methods can reach.展开更多

Methods that have been adopted have sought to determine additional gains made by treating death as a multiple c...The gains in analyzing death from a multiple cause perspective have been recognized for a very long time. Methods that have been adopted have sought to determine additional gains made by treating death as a multiple cause phenomenon as compared to analysis based on a single under-lying cause. This paper shows how association rules mining methodology can be adapted to determine joint morbid causes with strong and interesting associations. Results show that some causes of death that do not appear among the leading causes show strong associations with other causes that would otherwise remain unknown without the use of association rules methodology. Overall, the study found that the leading joint pair of causes of death in South Africa was metabolic disorders and intestinal infectious diseases which accounted for 18.9 deaths per 1000 in 2008, followed by cerebrovascular and hypertensive diseases which accounted for 18.3 deaths per 1000.展开更多

One of the assumptions underlying theories of phonological derivation is that the phonological architecture of any language consists of,at least,an abstract underlying form,its surface form and conditions which derive...One of the assumptions underlying theories of phonological derivation is that the phonological architecture of any language consists of,at least,an abstract underlying form,its surface form and conditions which derive the surface form from its underlying form.It is further assumed that the conditions are serially ordered in frameworks which subscribe to the rule ordering such as orthodox generative phonology and lexical phonology.In the present study,these issues are engaged in the case of Uvwie.In particular,the study seeks to investigate the conditions(processes and rules)which derive surface forms from their corresponding underlying forms,and the order in which they apply.Thus the study will examine the different well-motivated phonological rules attested in the derivation of Uvwie formatives,and provide evidence for the order in which the processes apply.The study employe data documented in Ekiugbo(2016),and couched its analysis within rule ordering principle of generative phonology.The study identifies six rules,which are ordered thus:nasal assimilation>glide formation>vowel elision>tone fusion>vowel lengthening>consonant elision.展开更多
