This study focuses on the field reconnaissance efforts for investigating ground deformation behavior and building foundation performance in Iskenderun.Many structures experienced significant damage or collapsed due to strong ground shaking in the coastal Iskenderun district of Hatay during the 2023 Kahramanmaras earthquake sequence.Many buildings were also impacted by ground failure due to liquefaction of deposits in the area.Preliminary information regarding the general subsurface profile and post-earthquake data collected during the reconnaissance was used to perform simplified liquefaction and lateral spreading analyses.The empirical methods provide first order estimations of settlements and lateral spreading but are not sufficient when the nature of the structure-soil-structure interaction and earthquake sequence is considered.Measurements of vertical displacements and building tilt,liquefaction manifestations,and structural and foundation parameters potentially affecting foundation settlements including foundation geometry,building contact pressure,and building elastic period were used to evaluate seismic response of the ground and the structures through empirical procedures.Most of the buildings exhibited poor to mediocre foundation performance due to liquefaction-prone subsurface profiles,especially on the coastline.Ongoing field and numerical research will reveal the cause of significant ground failure in the area as well as refined estimates for the seismic deformations. 展开更多

In this paper, firstly, the conception of cities ability reducing earthquake disasters is presented, and the ability could be evaluated with three basic elements the possible seis-mic casualty and economic loss during the future earthquakes that are likely to occur in the city and its surround-ings and time required for recovery after earthquake; based upon these three basic elements, a framework, which consists of six main components, for evaluating citys ability reducing earthquake disasters is proposed; then the statistical relations between the index system and the ratio of seismic casualty, the ratio of economic loss and re-covery time are gained utilizing the cities prediction results of earthquake disasters which were made during the ninth five-year plan; at last, the method defining the comprehensive index of cities ability reducing earthquake disasters is presented. Thus the relatively comprehensive theory frame is set up. The frame can evaluate cities ability reducing earthquake disasters absolutely and quantitatively and consequently instruct the decision-making on reducing cities earthquake disasters loss. 展开更多

The optimisation of earthquake resistance of high buildings by multi-tuned mass dampers was investigated using bionic algorithms. In bionic or evolutionary optimisation studies the properties of parents are crossed and mutated to produce a new generation with slightly different properties. The kids which best satisfy the object of the study, become the parents of the next generation. After a series of generations essential improvements of the object may be observed. Tuned mass dampers are widely used to reduce the impact of dynamic excitations on structures. A single mass system and multi-mass oscillators help to explain the mechanics of the dampers. To apply the bionic optimisation strategy to high buildings with passive tuned mass dampers subject to seismic loading a special beam element has been developed. In addition to the 6 degrees of freedom of a conventional beam element, it has 2 degrees of freedom for the displacements of the dampers. It allows for fast studies of many variants. As central result, efficient designs for damping systems along the height of an edifice are found. The impact on the structure may be reduced essentially by the use of such dampers designed to interact in an optimal way. 展开更多

The Xianshuihe fault zone is a seismo-genetic fault zone of left-lateral slip in Southwest China. The Xianshuihe fault zone is a seismo-genetic fault zone of left-lateral slip in Southwest China. Since 1725, a total of 59 Ms ≥ 5.0 earthquakes have occurred along this fault zone, including 18 Ms 6.0–6.9 and eight Ms ≥ 7.0 earthquakes. The seismic risk of the Xianshuihe fault zone is a large and realistic threat to the western Sichuan economic corridor. Based on previous studies, we carried out field geological survey and remote sensing interpretation in the fault zone. In addition, geophysical surveys, trenching and age-dating were conducted in the key parts to better understand the geometry, spatial distribution and activity of the fault zone. We infer to divide the fault zone into two parts: the northwest part and the southeast part, with total eight segments. Their Late Quaternary slip rates vary in a range of 11.5 mm/a –(3±1) mm/a. The seismic activities of the Xianshuihe fault zone are frequent and strong, periodical, and reoccurred. Combining the spatial and temporal distribution of the historical earthquakes, the seismic hazard of the Xianshuihe fault zone has been predicted by using the relationship between magnitude and frequency of earthquakes caused by different fault segments. The prediction results show that the segment between Daofu and Qianning has a possibility of Ms ≥ 7.0 earthquakes, while the segment between Shimian and Luding is likely to have earthquakes of about Ms 7.0. It is suggested to establish a GPS or In SAR-based real-time monitoring network of surface displacement to cover the Xianshuihe fault zone, and an early warning system of earthquakes and post seismic geohazards to cover the major residential areas. 展开更多

In this paper a method of relocating hypocenter in inhomogeneous medium is introduced.Based on the velocity from the latest results on the crust and mantle structure of the Bohai Sea and its adjacent areas,by using the data recorded in Shandong,Hebei,Beijing,and Liaoning networks around the Bohai Sea we apply the method to relocate hypocenter parameters of 598 events occurring in the Bohai Sea and its adjacent areas.The accuracy of hypocenter relocation is discussed.We present the results of events ML≥4.0 in the Bohai Sea in recent years and discussed the distribution of focal depths. 展开更多

On the basis of elastic rebound theory,using the horizontal velocity field of the Chinese mainland calculated from GPS data during three observation periods from 1999 to 2007,the velocity components that are parallel and plumb to the fault zone are calculated respectively for different periods,and then relative ground movements of two sides of the fault zone are analyzed with power function fitting and graphics. The results show that the relative ground movement shows right-lateral shear deformation before the Wenchuan MS8. 0 earthquake,and at the same time the movement was hindered by the Longmenshan fault zone. Thus,this result has positive significance for distinguishing the elastic strain energy accumulation and deformation anomaly in an earthquake preparation process,and for conducting further research on earthquake prediction. 展开更多

2023年12月18日23时59分,甘肃省积石山县发生Ms6.2级地震,最大地面加速度达到1.0 g。距震中20 km的青海省民和县中川乡大沙沟上游台地出现约15×10^(4)m^(2)液化陷落,活动水土体积约60×10^(4)m^(3),约45×10^(4)m^(3)侧流... 2023年12月18日23时59分,甘肃省积石山县发生Ms6.2级地震,最大地面加速度达到1.0 g。距震中20 km的青海省民和县中川乡大沙沟上游台地出现约15×10^(4)m^(2)液化陷落,活动水土体积约60×10^(4)m^(3),约45×10^(4)m^(3)侧流进入沟道,自北向南顺沟冲击形成灾害链,在草滩—金田村堆积约30×10^(4)m^(3),造成20人遇难。笔者等采用现场调查访问、卫星遥感和无人机图像解译、含水量测定、分析描述和量化计算等方法,对泥土流灾害链的形成因素、动力学机理和运动特征等进行了研究。大沙沟泥土流灾害链分布长度约3.1 km,可以划分为土体液化流失区、泥土流壅堵回淤区、路基堵溃冲击区、泥土堆积压埋区和泥水漫流区五部分,从上游到下游依次造成耕地损毁、电塔倒塌、灌渠破坏、摧毁村路、埋压乡道、压埋人员房屋和淤埋黄河引水灌渠等。泥土流具有过渡性三元分层结构,包括底部的冰水层、中间泥流层和上部的湿土层。液化土体从启动进入沟道到金田村被埋压的运动时间不足10 min,泥土流启动到美一村路基堵溃的时间约为4.38 min,到达到草滩村牌坊的时间约为6.15 min,在随后的3.50 min内酿成了草滩—金田村灾难。泥土流灾害链的形成是地质、水源、动力、地形和承灾体等诸多因素遭遇叠加的结果,包括厚层粉砂土、高位地下水、强烈的地震动、平缓地形倾向沟谷出口、路基阻挡蓄能溃决和沿途遭遇多处承灾体等要素。泥土流在平缓沟道实现远程运动的动力学效应包括启动区土体液化、入沟“闸门”束流、跨沟路基堵溃、沟道冰水润滑、水土“列车”接续入村堆积和灾民地震应激惊恐等多种效应的接续传递、叠加耦合。农村社区建于大沙沟冲积滩地上,无形中增大了成灾风险和自主防范的难度。笔者等提出的防范对策包括开展防灾减灾培训、农田灌溉改为渗灌滴灌、民居选址建设避开河沟洪泛冲积滩地、疏浚河道拓宽过流断面和上游开展水土保持等。 展开更多

Interaction between adjacent left-lateral strike-slip faults and thrust faults: the 1976 Songpan earthquake sequence 被引量:5

Based on the published focal mechanisms we have built the fault model of the main shocks of the 1976 Songpan earthquake sequence and calculated the coseismic Coulomb stress changes in the region. The results show that most of the aftershocks had occurred in the region where the Coulomb stresses had been increased, indicating a triggering relationship between the main shocks and the aftershocks. We also show that the first main shock (Ms = 7.2), which is a left-lateral slip event, had increased the Coulomb stresses by 5×105 Pa at the second main shock (a thrust event with Ms = 6.7). Therefore, we conclude that the first main shock had triggered the second main shock. The third main shock is also a left-lateral event, however, the triggering relationship between the third main shock and the previous two events is less obvious. General model calculations show that there is a good triggering relation- ship between adjacent left-lateral slip fault and thrust fault, but triggering between parallel slip faults is rather weak. 展开更多

2021年5月22日2时04分在青海省果洛藏族自治州玛多县发生7.4级地震,为了查明此次地震产生的地表破裂和伴生次生灾害发育特征,调查组采用遥感解译和实地调查方式对地震影响区进行了调查。调查结果显示,在玛多-甘德断裂和昆仑山口-江错断... 2021年5月22日2时04分在青海省果洛藏族自治州玛多县发生7.4级地震,为了查明此次地震产生的地表破裂和伴生次生灾害发育特征,调查组采用遥感解译和实地调查方式对地震影响区进行了调查。调查结果显示,在玛多-甘德断裂和昆仑山口-江错断裂之间形成了一条宽约75 km、长约230 km的活动断裂带,地表新发现地裂缝653条、砂土液化和喷砂冒水点1237个、地震鼓包97个、塌陷坑2个。地表破裂总体呈北西—南东向展布,自西向东出现马尾状分支的现象,东段与玛多-甘德断裂带以一定角度斜交,地裂缝整体走向与昆仑山口-江错断裂走向高度一致。地震地表破裂发育特征显示,此次玛多M s7.4级地震的发震断裂为昆仑山口-江错断裂,断面整体南倾,性质为左行走滑。此次大地震的发生是在印度板块向青藏高原挤压背景下,巴颜喀拉地块强烈向东挤出构造作用导致其北部走滑断裂发生左旋运动的结果。调查结果为地方政府关于灾区地震灾害损失评估及灾后重建提供了第一手基础资料。 展开更多

2022年1月8日01时45分,在青海省海北州门源县(N37.77°,E101.26°)发生了M_(S)6.9地震,震源深度约10 km.震后现场考察确认,本次地震震中位于祁连—海原断裂带中段的冷龙岭断裂与托勒山断裂之间的构造转换部位,上述断裂均为全新... 2022年1月8日01时45分,在青海省海北州门源县(N37.77°,E101.26°)发生了M_(S)6.9地震,震源深度约10 km.震后现场考察确认,本次地震震中位于祁连—海原断裂带中段的冷龙岭断裂与托勒山断裂之间的构造转换部位,上述断裂均为全新世活动的左旋走滑断裂.地震形成了两条地表破裂带,总长度约31 km.其中,北侧主破裂带主要沿冷龙岭断裂西段分布,东起硫磺沟脑,向西穿过道沟,至下大圈沟止,长度约22 km,野外测量并经无人机高分辨率影像校核后,最大水平位错量约2.6±0.3 m,并向两端逐渐衰减,宏观震中位于硫磺沟大拐弯至道沟以东一带.南西侧的次级破裂带分布在托勒山断裂东段上,东自大圈窝,断续向西过羊肠子沟,至大西沟止,长度约9 km,最大水平位错量约1.0±0.1 m,二者之间呈左阶斜列,最小阶距约1.0 km.本次地震地表破裂习性以左旋走滑为主略具逆冲分量,各次级破裂呈左旋左阶拉张或左旋右阶挤压的雁列式组合,形成了典型的走滑断错地貌,如左旋断错纹沟、河床、牧区铁丝网围栏、道路路基、车辙、便道和动物脚印等,同时还形成了典型的挤压脊或鼓包、张性裂隙和断层陡坎等,其走滑破裂样式典型而丰富.综合本次地震地表破裂展布和余震活动所反映的深部构造特征表明,其发震构造应以冷龙岭断裂西段为主,托勒山断裂东段参与,在其构造转换部位形成不连续的Y字型分叉的地震地表破裂图像.这次地震是继1986年门源M_(S)6.4和2016年门源M_(S)6.4地震沿冷龙岭北侧次级断裂活动之后,发生在冷龙岭主干活动断裂带上的一次强烈地震,未来应重点关注祁连—海原断裂带尤其是西段的大震活动. 展开更多

In this study, loss estimation models were developed for reasonably accurate assessment of economic and human losses from seismic events in the Mediterranean region, based on damage assessment at an urban scale.Data were compiled from existing worldwide databases,and completed with earthquake information from regional studies. Economic data were converted to a single common currency unit(2015 USD value) and the wealth of the areas affected by 65 earthquakes of the region from 1900 to 2015 was assessed. Reduced-form models were used to determine economic and human losses, with earthquake magnitude and intensity as hazard-related variables, and gross domestic product of the affected area and the affected population as exposure-related variables. Damage to buildings was also used as a hazard-related variable to predict economic and human losses. Finally, site-specific regression models were proposed for economic and human losses due to earthquakes in the Mediterranean region, and more specifically, in Algeria. We show that by introducing the damage variable into the models, prediction error can be reduced, and that accuracy of loss model estimation is site dependent and requires regional data on earthquake losses to improve. A case study for Constantine, Algeria shows the improvements needed for increased accuracy. 展开更多
