The Life Course of a Long-Lasting Affection Medium:A Fieldwork Based on the Communication Practice of the Rural Loudspeakers in North China

The loudspeakers played a crucial role in rural community during the COVID-19 pandemic,and had returned to the public with the help of short video platforms.However,with the continued popularity of digital media,is the revival of the loudspeakers which belong to traditional media just a flash in the pan?What the historic process of return has the loudspeakers undergone?Based on these questions,the paper applies Bourdieu’s sense of practice theory,focuses on“habit”throughout,adopts the research methods of online ethnography and fieldwork,and conducts participant observation and targeted in-depth interviews in a village in North China for about nine months.The study found that:(1)There is the lag of habit in the state’s handling of social relations in villages.Based on rational habit,village cadres used the loudspeakers to manifest their physical presence and restructure their authority;the villagers,operating under perceptual habit,rationalized the presence of the loudspeakers through using the key words such as elders,nostalgia,and homesickness;(2)the loudspeakers was maintained under the habit of village cadres and ordinary villagers,and the outbreak of the epidemic made the loudspeakers as an habit truly“appearing”;(3)the young village cadres,on the other hand,acquired this habit through imitation,transposed the loudspeakers into the short video platform,and carried out different forms of experimentation and innovation,thus surpassing the previous forms of loudspeakers practice.The return of the loudspeakers is the result of the game of different habits.As a long-lasting affection medium,the loudspeakers,on the one hand,has become an important media scene and memory field indispensable to rural community,and on the other hand,the people living on this land have a deep attachment to the loudspeakers,which is indirectly transformed into the bearer of homesickness.This brings new inspiration for us to rethink the relationship between the traditional media and the new media,the iteration of cadres and the change of rural community. 展开更多

The development of the medicinal trade and markets in late imperial China increased anxiety among scholarly physicians about the authenticity of medicines.Even though the market was typically depicted by scholarly physicians as a place full of tricks and deceptions,it was a repertoire where practical knowledge about authentication was created and circulated.The specialized knowledge was mainly transmitted through oral tradition.But in some instances,it was also written down by scholarly physicians or merchants,allowing us to reconstruct the techniques and their underlying rationales.Authentication of medicines mobilized multiple sensory perceptions of the human body,consisting of observing,tasting,smelling,touching,and performing small tests.All these techniques played different roles in the practice of authentication.Even though these sensory techniques seemed like a collection of trivial and practical records without any coherent rationales,an underlying episteme could be detected through a close investigation.Merchants and practitioners in the market did not understand the nature and materiality of medicines by any established theories.Instead,they actively engaged with the tangible form of medicines through the senses and bodily techniques.This sensory form of knowing indicates a type of practical expertise that is distant from the scholarly tradition of materia medica in late imperial China. 展开更多

With the advancement of science and technology as well as the rapid development of next generation information technologies,such as big data and artificial intelligence,smart classrooms have emerged as the times have demanded.Adopting innovative teaching modes in smart classrooms allows the realization of various teaching techniques that cannot be achieved in traditional classrooms.Especially for some courses in medical schools,due to changes in the medical environment and the improvement of patients’awareness of medical rights and interests,the traditional teaching methods are becoming more restricted.For example,in clinical surgery,due to the increasing number of medical students in recent years and requirements for strict aseptic principle adherence in operating rooms,practical teaching has encountered great restrictions,thus preventing it from meeting the needs of students.In order to solve this problem,this research constructs a smart classroom teaching model for surgical practice teaching based on hardware equipment,such as smart classrooms,interconnected surgical mobile broadcast equipment,and intelligent medical simulators.Through this teaching model,the teaching effect and quality are further analyzed,laying a foundation for smart teaching in future medical courses. 展开更多

This paper reports a study which investigated the meanings a group of experienced English as Foreign Language (EFL) teachers at a Chinese university gave to their classroom practices. It uncovers for each teacher a conceptual framework for practice, which comprises teaching principles and strategic intentions. It reveals that teachers' frameworks for practice are an interwoven system of their most strongly held beliefs in language teaching and their perceptions of their teaching contexts, and that teachers' own learning and teaching experiences are important influences on their conceptualisations of classroom work. Objective:This paper aims to study the application of flipped classroom teaching model based on micro-course in the practical training teaching of contact lens fitting technology.Methods:From September 21 to July 23,120 students majoring in ophthalmology and optometry were selected and randomly divided into groups.The control group adopted the traditional teaching mode,and the study group adopted the flipped classroom teaching mode based on micro-course.Teaching scores and the skills,observation and judgment,adaptability,and communication skills were compared between the groups.Results:Statistical comparison of teaching scores under different management methods showed that the clinical thinking score and practice work quality in the study group were higher than those of the control group,and the effect of the study group was better(P<0.05).The overall scores of skills,observation and judgment,adaptability,and communication skills of the study group were better than those in the control group,and the comprehensive ability scores in the two groups were significantly different(P<0.05).Conclusion:In practical training teaching of contact lens fitting technology,the application of flipped classroom teaching based on micro-course can improve the skill scores of personnel,and the overall effect is good.This can lay the foundation for advanced ophthalmology and optometry talents with profound theoretical knowledge and professional skills. 展开更多
