This approach prioritizes the safety and health of local citizens, placing communal productivity above corporate profitability. This research aims to assess air quality surrounding 28 chemical industry sites in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to understand the environmental and health impacts of industrial pollutants, with a focus on environmental justice. Air quality pollutants, including PM2.5, PM10, O3, NO2, CO, and SO2, were monitored for 75 days during the Summer, using the BreezoMeter app. Python, Mapize, and QGIS software technologies were utilized for data analysis and visualization. Findings indicate a reduction in NO2 and CO levels, compared to existing literature. However, the persistent challenge of particulate matter suggests areas for further environmental management efforts. Additionally, the research suggests a significant disparity in air pollution exposure, probably affecting marginalized communities. Although the nature of the study might not fully capture annual pollution trends, the findings highlight the urgent need for the chemical industry to adopt efficient production methods and for policymakers to enhance air quality standards and enforcement, particularly in pollution-sensitive areas. The disproportionate impact of air pollution on vulnerable communities calls for a more inclusive approach to environmental justice, ensuring equitable distribution of clean air benefits and community involvement in pollution management decisions.展开更多

The increase of its population has been accompanied by a significant demand for drinking water. The Congolese populations in order to meet their water needs, have recourse to rainwater, surface water and groundwater, because it is easy to access. The city of Brazzaville, political capital of the Republic of Congo, is also affected by this problem. The study carried out here aimed to assess the physicochemical and microbiological parameters of groundwater (wells, boreholes and springs) consumed by the populations of the Massissia district. In this work the physicochemical parameters below were evaluated: the pH, the conductivity, the hardness, the major ions, the undesirable substances as well as some toxic elements (Lead, Cadmium, Iron and Zinc) thanks to techniques of colorimetry, potentiometry and spectrophotometry. The main microbiological parameters determined are E. Coli, Staphylococcus, Total Germs, Total Coliforms, Yeasts and Molds. The physicochemical analyzes revealed that these waters are acidic with pH values between 5 and 6.5, the nitrate concentration evaluated between 50 mg/L and 60 mg/L, and a presence of the element Cadmium at values variants between 0.01 and 0.5 mg/L, values greater than the standard required by the WHO. Microbiological analyzes revealed bacteriological contamination by presence of E. coli in wells and boreholes whose origin is faecal contamination, the presence of yeasts and molds, staphylococcus, Total germs and Total coliforms and Ps Aeuginosis in all water points, making these waters a real danger for consumers.展开更多

Taking into account that currently there is no categorization in terms of susceptibility and tolerance on this pathogen, the present work is presented with the main objective of “Evaluate the influence of Pathogenicity of C. truncatum on the physiological quality (germination, vigor, viability) and biochemical components in different varieties of soybean seeds (Glycine max)” most planted in the region. The work was carried out in the Agrotec laboratory, located in the Municipality of San Alberto (Alto Paraná), using a completely randomized experimental design, with AxB factorial arrangement, where A indicates ten most planted soybean varieties in the region and B with or without artificial inoculation of Colletotrichum truncatum, with twenty treatments and four repetitions. The variables evaluated were: germination, vigor, viability and chemical composition. The data were subjected to analysis of variance and the Tukey test at 5% error. The results showed a significant statistical difference, accepting the alternative hypothesis proposed “The pathogenicity of Colletotrichum truncatum influences the physiological quality (germination, vigor, viability) and biochemical components (saturated and unsaturated fatty acids) in different varieties of soybean seeds (Glycine max)”.展开更多

It reflects postgraduates’ research achievements and the educational quality of an institute, even a country. To construct an optimized quality evaluation system for postgraduate dissertation (QESPD), we summarized the influencing factors and invited 10 experienced specialists to rate and prioritize them based on fuzzy analytic hierarchy process. Four primary indicators (innovation, integrity, scientificity and normativity) and 16 sub-indicators were selected to form the evaluation system. The order of primary indicators by weight, was innovation (0.4269), scientificity (0.2807), integrity (0.1728) and normativity (0.1196). The top five sub-dimensions were theoretical originality, scientific value, data reliability, design rationality and evidence credibility. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system, a case study was performed. In the case study, it was demonstrated that the established two-index-hierarchy QESPD in this study was a more scientific and reasonable evaluation system worthy of promotion and application.展开更多

The action is mainly the mutual influence between human activity and geologic environment. When human activity is uncoordinated with objective laws of the geologic environment, the problems of environmental geology or economic loss would occur. Therefore, the level and the changing orientation of geologic environmental quality are relative to the types of human activity, particularly relative to human intentional-activities of geologic environmental exploitation project. The geologic environment fitting to mining may not fit to urban construction, and fitting to water conservancy and hydroelectric projects may not fit to communication, and so on.Economy evaluation on the profit and loss of geologic environmental quality is exactly to depict the level of the profit and loss of geologic environmental quality about geologic environmental exploitation projects and the展开更多

Although some QTL for these traits have been identified, understanding of the genetic relationship between them remains limited. In the present study, large phenotypic variation was observed in 760 accessions from the 3 K Rice Genomes Project for both appearance quality and cooked rice elongation. Most component traits of appearance quality and cooked rice elongation showed significant pairwise correlations, but a low correlation was found between appearance quality and cooked rice elongation. A genome-wide association study identified 74 QTL distributed on all 12 chromosomes for grain length, grain width, length to width ratio, degree of endosperm with chalkiness, rice elongation difference, and elongation index. Thirteen regions containing QTL stably expressed in multiple environments and/or exerting pleiotropic effects on multiple traits were detected. By gene-based association analysis and haplotype analysis, 46 candidate genes, including five cloned genes, and 49 favorable alleles were identified for these 13 QTL. The effect of the candidate gene Wx on rice elongation difference was validated by a transgenic strategy. These results shed light on the genetic bases of appearance quality and cooked rice elongation and provide gene resources for improving rice quality by molecular breeding.展开更多

As patients' lives prolonged, it is important to understand their health-related quality of life(QoL) during and after treatment. We used the EQ-5D questionnaire to assess QoL of 194 patients with cervical lesions at Sichuan University West China Second Hospital between May 2010 and January 2011. Patients were surveyed before primary treatment and at 1, 3, and 6 months after primary treatment. Results showed a consistent decline in EQ-5D scores in the spectrum of cervical lesions at each time point after treatment(all P < 0.05). For patients with precursor lesions, there was an increasing trend along the timeline of treatment(P < 0.01). For patients with early-stage cervical cancer, EQ-5D scores declined in the first month(P = 0.01) and gradually increased to higher levels at 6 months post-treatment than those before treatment(P < 0.01). EQ-5D scores followed a similar trend in patients with advanced cervical cancer(P = 0.04), though they did not statistically rebound after 6 months(0.84 ± 0.19 vs. 0.86 ± 0.11, P = 0.62). Regarding advanced cervical cancer, EQ-5D scores for women above 40 years of age appeared to recover more rapidly and reached higher levels than those for women below 40 years(P = 0.03). Caution and extra care are recommended in the early period of cervical cancer treatment given the slight deterioration in the QoL, and in particular, for younger cervical cancer patients. Our study implies that health care providers may need to improve the health-related QoL of cervical cancer patients.展开更多

We analyzed 584 eligible subjects (283 men and 301 women) aged 20 - 29 years. Information on diet and individual lifestyle characteristics, including sleep quality, which was assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Japanese version (PSQI-J), were obtained by participants completing an online questionnaire. Kendall’s tau coefficient was used to measure the ordinal association between diet and sleep quality. The Mann-Whitney U test was performed to evaluate differences in sleep quality by frequency of eating out and frequency of skipping meals. The results revealed a significant difference in sleep duration and PSQI-J score between people who eat out >2 times a week (“high restaurants group”) and those who do not (“low restaurants group”). Furthermore, whereas the mean sleep duration in the “high restaurants group” was 6.59 hours, the mean sleep duration in the “low restaurants group” was 6.90 hours (p = 0.007). The PSQI-J score was significantly higher in the “high restaurants group” than in the “low restaurants group” (4.91 versus 4.37, p = 0.006). Significant differences were also evident in the test’s component scores: C2, C3, and C7. No significant difference was found in sleep duration and PSQI-J score between the groups in terms of frequency of skipping meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Our results suggested that excessive intake by eating out more than twice a week may lead to short sleep duration and high PSQI-J score.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Depression presents significant challenges to mental health care.Although phy-sical activity is highly beneficial to mental and physical health, relatively few stu-dies have conducted on the relationship between them.AIM To investigate the association between muscle quality index(MQI)and incidence of depression.METHODS The data used in this cross-sectional study were obtained from the 2011-2014 National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey, which included informa-tion on MQI,depression, and confounding factors.Multivariable logistic regre-ssion models were employed, while taking into account the complex multi-stage sampling design.A restricted cubic spline model was utilized to investigate the non-linear relationship between the MQI and depression.Additionally, subgroup analyses were performed to identify influential factors.RESULTS The prevalence of depression in this population was 8.44%.With the adjusted model, the MQI was associated with depression in females(odds ratio=0.68,95%confidence interval:0.49-0.95)but not in males(odds ratio=1.08,95%confidence interval:0.77-1.52).Restricted cubic spline adjustment of all covariates showed a significant negative non-linear relationship between depression and the MQI in females. The observed trend indicated an 80%decrease in the risk of depression for each unit increase in MQI,until a value of 2.2.Subsequently,when the MQI exceeded 2.2,the prevalence of depression increased by 20%for every unit increase in the MQI.Subgroup analyses further confirmed that the MQI was negatively associated with de-pression.CONCLUSION The MQI was inversely correlated with depression in females but not males, suggesting that females with a higher MQI might decrease the risk of depression.

文摘The Republic of Congo in the course of the last two decades has been marked by a strong demographic explosion. 文摘Rice cooking and eating qualities(CEQ)are mainly determined by cooked rice textural parameters and starch physicochemical properties. However, the genetic bases of grain texture and starch properties in rice have not been fully understood. We conducted a genome-wide association study for apparent amylose content(AAC),starch pasting viscosities, and cooked rice textural parameters using 279 indica rice accessions from the 3000 Rice Genome Project. We identified 26 QTLs in the whole population and detected single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)with the lowest P-value at the Waxy(Wx)locus for all traits except pasting temperature and cohesiveness.Additionally,we detected significant SNPs at the SUBSTANDARD STARCH GRAIN6(SSG6)locus for AAC,setback(SB),hardness, adhesiveness, chewiness(CHEW),gumminess(GUM),and resilience. We subsequently divided the population using a SNP adjacent to the Waxy locus, and identified 23 QTLs and 12 QTLs in two sub-panels,WxT and WxA,respectively. In these sub-panels,SSG6 was also identified to be associated with pasting parameters, including peak viscosity, hot paste viscosity, cold paste viscosity, and consistency viscosity.Furthermore,a candidate gene encoding monosaccharide transporter 5(OsMST5)was identified to be associated with AAC,breakdown,SB,CHEW,and GUM.In total,39 QTLs were co-localized with known genes or previously reported QTLs.These identified genes and QTLs provide valuable information for genetic manipulation to improve rice CEQ.
文摘The literature highlights that a severe infection by the fungus Colletotrichum truncatum may be capable of inflicting considerable damage to seeds after harvest, potentially affecting their chemical composition and physiological quality. The results showed a significant statistical difference, accepting the alternative hypothesis proposed “The pathogenicity of Colletotrichum truncatum influences the physiological quality (germination, vigor, viability) and biochemical components (saturated and unsaturated fatty acids) in different varieties of soybean seeds (Glycine max)”.

文摘A dissertation is a research report or scientific paper written by an author to obtain a certain degree. In the case study, it was demonstrated that the established two-index-hierarchy QESPD in this study was a more scientific and reasonable evaluation system worthy of promotion and application.
文摘The problems of environmental geology refer to the geologic phenomena, incidents or accidents arising from action of environmental geology. The geologic environment fitting to mining may not fit to urban construction, and fitting to water conservancy and hydroelectric projects may not fit to communication, and so on.Economy evaluation on the profit and loss of geologic environmental quality is exactly to depict the level of the profit and loss of geologic environmental quality about geologic environmental exploitation projects and the

文摘Recommending high-quality news to users is vital in improving user stickiness and news platforms’reputation. However, existing news quality evaluation methods, such as clickbait detection and popularity prediction, are challenging to reflect news quality comprehensively and concisely. This paper defines news quality as the ability of news articles to elicit clicks and comments from users, which represents whether the news article can attract widespread attention and discussion.Based on the above definition, this paper first presents a straightforward method to measure news quality based on the comments and clicks of news and defines four news quality indicators. Then, the dataset can be labeled automatically by the method.Next, this paper proposes a deep learning model that integrates explicit and implicit news information for news quality evaluation(EINQ).The explicit information includes the headline, source, and publishing time of the news, which attracts users to click. The implicit information refers to the news article’s content which attracts users to comment. The implicit and explicit information affect users’click and comment behavior differently. For modeling explicit information, the typical convolution neural network(CNN)is used to get news headline semantic representation. For modeling implicit information,a hierarchical attention network(HAN)is exploited to extract news content semantic representation while using the latent Dirichlet allocation(LDA)model to get the subject distribution of news as a semantic supplement.Considering the different roles of explicit and implicit information for quality evaluation, the EINQ exploits an attention layer to fuse them dynamically. The proposed model yields the Accuracy of 82.31%and the F-Score of 80.51%on the real-world dataset from Toutiao, which shows the effectiveness of explicit and implicit information dynamic fusion and demonstrates performance improvements over a variety of baseline models in news quality evaluation. This work provides empirical evidence for explicit and implicit factors in news quality evaluation and a new idea for news quality evaluation.

文摘Appearance and cooked rice elongation are key quality traits of rice. These results shed light on the genetic bases of appearance quality and cooked rice elongation and provide gene resources for improving rice quality by molecular breeding.

文摘The overall survival of patients with cervical cancer has improved due to detection at an early stage and availability of comprehensive treatments in China. Our study implies that health care providers may need to improve the health-related QoL of cervical cancer patients.
文摘The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of eating out or skipping meals on the quality or quantity of sleep in young Japanese adults. Our results suggested that excessive intake by eating out more than twice a week may lead to short sleep duration and high PSQI-J score.

文摘BACKGROUND Colon cancer is one the most common forms of cancer in both sexes.Due to important progress in the field of early detection and effective treatment, colon and rectal cancer survivors currently account for 10%of cancer survivors worldwide. However, the effects of anti-cancer treatments, especially oxaliplatinbased chemotherapy,on the quality of life(QoL)have been less evaluated.Although the incidence of severe chemotherapy-induced neuropathy(CIPN)in clinical studies is below 20%,data from real-world studies is scarce, and CIPN is probably under-reported due to patient selection and the patients’fear that reporting side-effects might lead to treatment cessation.AIM To determine the impact of CIPN on QoL in colorectal cancer patients with a recent history of oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy.METHODS We performed a prospective cross-sectional study in two major Romanian oncology tertiary hospitals—the Regional Institute of Oncology Ia?i(Iasi,Romania)and the Fundeni Clinical Oncology Institute(Bucharest,Romania). All consecutive patients with colon or rectal cancer, undergoing Oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy that consented to enroll in the study, were assessed by means of two questionnaires—the EORTC QQ-CR29(quality of life in colon and rectal cancer patients)and the QLQ-CIPN20(assessment of neuropathy).Several demographical, social, clinical and treatment data were also collected.Statistical analysis was performed by means of SPSS v20.The student t test was used to assess the relationship between the QLQ-CIPN20 and QLQ-CR29 results.Kaplan Meyer-curves were used to report 3-year progression-free survival(PFS)in patients that discontinued chemotherapy vs those that completed the recommended course.RESULTS Of the 267 patients that fulfilled the inclusion criteria in the pre-specified time frame,101(37.8%)agreed to participate in the clinical study. At the time of the enrolment in the study, over 50%of the patients had recently interrupted their oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy, most often due to neuropathy.Almost 85%of the responders reported having tingling or numbness in their fingers or hands, symptoms that were associated with pain in over 20%of the cases. When comparing the scores in the two questionnaires,a statistically significant relationship(P<0.001)was found between the presence of neuropathic symptoms and a decreased quality of life. This correlation was consistent when the patients were stratified by sex, disease stage, comorbidities and the presence of stoma or treatment type, suggesting that neuropathy in itself may be a reason for a decreased quality of life.At the 3 year final assessment, median recurrence-free survival in stageⅢpatients was 26.88 mo.When stratified by completion of chemotherapy, median recurrence freesurvival of stageⅢpatients that completed chemotherapy was 28.27 mo vs 24.33 mo in patients that discontinued chemotherapy due to toxicity,a difference that did not reach statistical significance.CONCLUSION CIPN significantly impacts QoL in colorectal cancer patients.CIPN is also the most frequent reason for treatment discontinuation.Physicians should actively assess for CIPN in order to prevent chronic neuropathy.
