On the Effects of Applying Task-based Approach to Business Oral English Teaching in Higher Vocational College

A teaching experiment was conducted to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of applying of Task-based approach(TBA) to business oral English teaching in higher vocational college.Instruments are tests and questionnaire for the experimental participants.Based on the data analysis,it can be concluded that TBA proves to be more effective especially compared with PPP approach.

The Application of Communicative Approach in College English Teaching

As college life is a turning point in one’s life, receiving higher education is of great importance. Application of TBA to Teaching English Vocabularies in Colleges

"Vocabulary is of enormous importance in communication", however, in the context of college English teaching in China, although a lot of time and energy is spent on learning and teaching vocabulary, the situation is far from being satisfactory. This paper explores a comparatively new approach--Task Based Approach (TBA) and its application to teaching English vocabularies in colleges. The emphasis of TBA is on learning by doing, which gets learners to do things or complete tasks by using English.The application of TBA to college English vocabulary teaching (CEVT) in this paper is an attempt that hopes to provide some practical reference value for the reform of college English Teaching (CET).

A Case Study of an Experienced University EFL Teacher’s Use of POA Teaching Materials

Although research on teaching materials use has important implications for materials development,little literature examines how teachers actually use materials in the classroom.The present study,taking the theoretical framework for using and evaluating Production-Oriented Approach(POA)teaching materials(Wen,2017),explores the procedure and the rationale of an experienced Chinese university EFL teacher’s use of POA teaching materials.Multiple methods were employed in data collection,including classroom observations,teacher interviews,the teacher’s lesson plans,and PowerPoints,as well as students’written and oral products.Data analysis showed that the teacher followed a three-phase process of materials use.Before class,teaching objectives were set,materials were selected,adapted,and then transformed into teaching activities.During class,the teaching activities were implemented with the materials.After class,the effectiveness of using the materials was assessed.The study revealed that the teacher played an active role in practicing the essential POA principles of“productive-objectives-determined”and“input-in-service-to-output”in the entire process of material use.

PRACTICAL APPROACHES IN TEACHING BUSINESS ENGLISH TO FRESHMEN OF THE CONTINUING EDUCATION COLLEGE

This article presents some practical approaches inteaching Business English to freshmen of the Continu-ing Education College.It introduces three attempts inmatching the students’situation with the teachingtasks,combining teaching with practice,and givingstudents periodic tests and a variety of test formats in-stead of only giving one test at the end of the term.Itis shown,through the practical attempts,that theapproaches are effective.
