Study on Translation Strategies of Metaphor in Zhang Peiji’s Elected Modern Chinese Essays From the Cultural Perspective

Many literary essays contain a large number of metaphor examples.Due to the differences between language and culture,metaphor,as a carrier of culture,makes many translators rack their brains and make great efforts in translation.In recent years,scholars’research on metaphor also emerges many new ideas.On the basis of previous metaphor studies,this paper discusses the cultural factors in conceptual metaphor,selects the translation of some metaphors in Zhang Peiji’s Selected Modern Chinese Essays as examples,and focuses on three strategies of metaphor translation:Literal translation retains the metaphor in the original language;free translation refers to the transformation of metaphor guided by the target language culture;literal translation of cultural metaphor and increase connotation interpretation.

Translation Strategy of Metaphorical Phrases from the Cultural Perspective

Translators frequently come across metaphors and similes, which are important ways of figure of speech. Figures of speech are actually vehicles of culture, and metaphorical phrases are the essence of human's culture. So the strategies adopted in the translation of metaphors and similes are the reflection of the translators' attitude towards culture. This paper holds the belief that foreignization should be the main translation strategy when dealing with the metaphorical phrases bearing cultural connotations.

The Translation of Metaphor Based on Relevance Theory

The paper will discuss the influence of relevance theory on translation of metaphor. It gives some strategies of translation. Firstly, it introduces the nature, definition and classification of metaphor. And it points the cognitive nature of metaphor and analyses the translation of metaphor. It will provide a new method for the translation of metaphor.

On Translation Strategies of Literal and Metaphorical Sense——Taking Chinese word'jiayou'as an Example

This paper explores the metaphorical translation methods about Literal Translation and Free Translation,and analyzes the features of metaphors in certain occasions and the translation examples of some typical type of metaphors.The author holds that no matter what translation strategies are adopted,readers' acceptability should always be put at the first place.

A Study on Translation Strategies Used in Metaphor Boxes in Macmillan English-Chinese Dictionary for Advanced Learners

Macmillan English Dictionary for Advanced Learners(MEDAL) applied conceptual metaphor theory to practical lexicogra-phy systematically for the first time, namely, setting Metaphor Box. In the wake of MEDAL, Macmillan English-Chinese Dictionary for Advanced Learners was published based on the English blueprint. Due to different experience and thinking ways between Chi-nese and English, it is not easy for users to understand and translate the metaphors boxes without the help of proper translationstrategies. As an authoritative bilingual version for learners, it provided a template of understanding and translating metaphors.Thus, studying its strategies used in translating the metaphors boxes will be helpful for learners to understand and translate meta-phors in language learning. On the basis of strategies suggested by other researchers and case analysis, three main strategies usedin translating the Metaphor Boxes in the dictionary will be proposed.

Gender in translation and feminist translation strategies

Translation has been regarded as the subordination and complementation of the original discourse in the long history of human society, and the loyalty of the wife to the husband has been the metaphor of the relationship between translated version and the original discourse. By using supplementing, prefacing, and hijacking, the feminist translation rewrites the original discourse creatively in order to overwhelming the authority of the original discourse even the male-governed society.

Metaphor and Translation

In this paper, the author first analyzed the nature of metaphor and difficulties in metaphor translation, displayed the factors that will influence the translation between English and Chinese metaphors, and then explored the metaphor translation strategies by taking some English and Chinese idioms as examples.

《习近平谈治国理政》中的隐喻类型及其日译策略

有关《习近平谈治国理政》的语言风格与修辞策略的研究正成为学界关注的焦点,但对《习近平谈治国理政》中、日文版中的隐喻类型及其翻译策略的研究尚不多见。通过运用概念隐喻理论对《习近平谈治国理政》(第一卷)中文版中的隐喻表达及隐喻类型进行梳理和总结,并探讨这些隐喻表达在被日译时采用的主要翻译策略发现:《习近平谈治国理政》中的隐喻类型以常规隐喻和意象隐喻为主,且不少具有鲜明的中国特色。受语言和文化双重因素影响,《习近平谈治国理政》日文版所采用的隐喻翻译策略主要有译入相同概念隐喻、取消概念隐喻、译入明喻、以注释的形式译出目标域4种类型。

概念隐喻视角下政治形象建构及其日译策略研究——以党的二十大报告为例

隐喻作为人类的认知工具和思维方式,是政治话语中的重要组成部分,是构建政治形象的核心要素。文章以概念隐喻理论为指导,以党的二十大报告及其官方日译本为语料,梳理了文本中出现的隐喻类型,考察了部分类型隐喻构建的政治形象,并在此基础上探讨了政治隐喻的日译策略。研究表明:党的二十大报告中采用了战争、旅行、建筑、拟人、自然等11种类型的隐喻表现;党的二十大报告通过旅行、拟人、战争等多种隐喻使用,塑造了中国共产党“领路者”“负责任家长”“总指挥”等形象;中国政治话语隐喻对日翻译策略有喻体直译、喻体转换、喻体意译3种手段,且喻体直译中又可细分为喻体对等和喻体输出,喻体意译可细分为提升理解型意译、消除冲突型意译和增进共识型意译。

基于语料库的政治语篇动物隐喻英译研究

文章以自建政治语篇语料库为基础,对中文政治语篇中的动物隐喻英译策略进行研究,重点探讨了中文政治语篇中15种高频动物之隐喻英译的策略,并进行了认知分析和解释。研究发现,这些动物隐喻英译时主要采用直译和意译两种策略:虎、蝇、狐、狼、骆驼、羊、象、黑天鹅、灰犀牛的隐喻英译时多使用直译;龙、鱼、马、牛、雁的隐喻英译时则更倾向于意译。

概念整合视角下政治语篇中隐喻英译的认知解读及策略研究

隐喻作为一种认知现象在政治语篇中起着重要作用。文章选取《习近平谈治国理政》第二卷中、英文版为语料,以概念整合理论为视角,对隐喻英译进行认知解读。结果表明:隐喻英译是一种动态的概念整合;概念整合翻译网络类型、对应物投射方式与翻译策略之间存在密不可分的对应关系;语言及文化心理等多因素引起不同翻译策略选择,并呈现出不同的认知心理过程。

Things Fall Apart概念隐喻汉译比较研究

“真实亲诚”理念的提出使得中非人文交流更加繁茂,中非在文化、教育、科技等方面的合作日益扩大。值此时代背景下,以非洲经典文学作品Things Fall Apart为研究对象,就国内三版汉译本对小说中概念隐喻的翻译案例进行分析比较。研究表明,针对该小说概念隐喻主要处理的方向为:保留隐喻,延续始源域语言特色;更换隐喻,兼顾始源域和目标域语言交融以及去除隐喻,跨越源域语言羁绊,采用的具体翻译策略为直译、换喻、意译以及省略,其中,尤以直译应用频率最高。

国家叙事视角下政治文本中的隐喻英译研究——以2020-2022年《政府工作报告》为例

隐喻作为人类认识世界、体验世界的思维认知工具,能够将抽象、陌生的政治概念转化成具体、熟悉的概念,使之通俗易懂,更具感染力。基于此,隐喻在国家叙事话语中随处可见并且广泛应用于政治宣传中。从批评隐喻分析视角出发,结合定量分析和定性分析的研究方法,对2020-2022年《政府工作报告》及其官方英译本进行研究,梳理研究文本中使用的较为典型的国家叙事话语隐喻类型,考察其在构建国家叙事话语中所起的作用,并在此基础上探讨国家叙事话语中隐喻的翻译策略,以期在国家叙事话语外宣的过程中,完整传达国家叙事话语隐喻的含义,从而对外输出我国的意识形态和核心文化,塑造和传播我国国家形象。

“中非命运共同体”话语中含有大量概念隐喻,是国家话语体系建设的重要组成部分。对其话语中的隐喻进行准确解读及采用适当的翻译策略,有助于准确、高效传播其话语理念,也有助于中华优秀语言及文化的对外传播。本文基于概念隐喻理论,以《新时代的中非合作》白皮书及其英文译本为例,系统分析“中非命运共同体”话语中的隐喻,梳理其中隐喻的类型和投射机制,并探讨了其隐喻翻译的策略以及影响因素。“中非命运共同体”话语中隐喻的翻译策略,从翻译过程所涉及的客观因素维度来看,主要有语境因素和语言因素。

基于语料库的政治隐喻及翻译策略研究——以《习近平谈治国理政》第三卷为例

概念隐喻广泛存在于政治话语当中,其翻译对于国家话语体系和国家形象的构建发挥着至关重要的作用。选取《习近平谈治国理政》第三卷中的19个不同主题的语篇作为语料,运用语料库研究方法,结合Charteris-Black提出的批评隐喻分析以及Pragglegaz团队提出的MIP隐喻识别程序,识别出语料中常见的隐喻模式,并根据隐喻模式出现的频率,聚焦出现频次最高的旅行隐喻,总结出3种隐喻翻译策略,以期为政治语篇的隐喻翻译研究和实践提供借鉴。

浅析政治文献的概念隐喻及其越译版翻译策略

国内对于隐喻的研究起步较晚,直到进入二十一世纪,隐喻才成为翻译研究关注的热点问题。但大多数隐喻翻译研究的文本以小说体裁居多,政治文本较少,在语种上也多倾向于英语等西方语言。概念隐喻视域下探究中国共产党全国代表大会报告越译版翻译策略的研究数量较少。本文以二十大报告及其越译版为研究语料,对报告中出现的概念隐喻进行梳理分类,并探究各类隐喻表达的翻译策略,藉此丰富中国特色政治文本的概念隐喻研究及其越译研究。中国特色政治文本的准确翻译,有利于准确传达国家的政治理念、输出源语国家的意识形态,更加准确地向外界传播中国声音、展现中国形象。

概念隐喻视角下中央文献核心术语翻译研究

中央文献是具有中国特色的政治话语体系,其成功英译有助于提高中国特色话语体系传播力,争取国际话语权。本研究以《习近平谈治国理政》第三卷英译本为研究语料,以认知语言学中的概念隐喻为理论框架,将语料中所涉及的核心术语进行整理分类,归纳总结出不同背景下中央政治文献常用隐喻表达类型、内含及作用,提出中央政治文献翻译策略及方法,使读者能够很好地理解独具中国特色的政治话语风格,并能够清晰、准确地向世界读者宣传党的中央政治文献。

隐喻的认知观与隐喻翻译策略

传统的隐喻理论认为,隐喻是语言的异体表达方式,隐喻翻译是以修辞为取向的。认知语言学的概念隐喻理论认为,隐喻不仅是一种语言现象,更是人们借助已知事物认识未知事物的普遍性思维方式和认知手段;隐喻翻译是一种认知活动,应以认知为取向。在翻译过程中译者应从认知的角度分析隐喻产生的心理基础及其隐含的文化信息,并据此确定相应的归化和异化翻译策略,向目的语读者准确完整地传达原语文本信息。

框架理论视角下鲁迅小说中隐喻的英译策略——以《狂人日记》和《药》为例

鲁迅小说中隐喻颇多,蕴含着丰富的文化背景知识,也是翻译的难点。基于框架理论,结合鲁迅小说《狂人日记》、《药》杨戴译本和莱尔译本中的隐喻翻译实例,从框架相同和相异两个角度探讨译者的隐喻英译策略。认为翻译框架相同的内容时可采用对等转换策略,对于框架相异的内容可采用移植和增补策略。

试论中医术语隐喻英译的策略

隐喻依存于特定的文化语境,基于中国传统文化和取象思维构建的中医术语具有隐喻特征,中西医文化和思维的差异决定了对等翻译不能解决中医术语隐喻翻译的全部问题,隐喻翻译关系到中医术语英译的成败。在笔者提出的中医术语隐喻翻译应遵循的阐释医理原则和保持民族特色原则的基础上,本文以术语隐喻价值为判断标准,尝试提出了中医术语隐喻翻译的策略:约定俗成以统一标准,是中医术语隐喻英译的首要策略;在阐释医理原则前提下,应用对等映射、音译和转换隐喻等翻译策略以保留术语的隐喻意象和民族特色;隐喻意象与医理不可兼得,舍去隐喻以阐释医理为要;针对中医术语多义性特征,应用多元对等翻译策略以解决多义性术语隐喻的翻译问题。
