Faculty Members’ Attitudes and Perceptions towards E-Publishing at the University of Jordan

Electronic Publishing offers many opportunities to today’s users and scholars that were not available to their predecessors. Because of the multidimensional features of e-Journals, they are becoming the choice of academic as well as public library users. Technology, and particularly the Internet, has great potential for altering scholarly communication and research inhumanities, sciences, social sciences, and health sciences disciplines. Results of scholarly surveys show that there is a significant interest in e-Publication of research. Thus, this research paper investigates the attitudes and perceptions of faculty members at the University of Jordan (UJ) of current issues associated with the use of electronic publishing and perceived obstacles to their extended use for scholarly communication and publication. Specifically, the primary focus of this study is to examine and perceive how faculty members’ use of electronic publications might affect their interest in publishing their own research in electronic formats;as well as to determine the contribution of scholars towards publishing in e-Journals. In order to achieve the research objectives, a questionnaire method was adopted to elicit the opinions of the faculty members;whereas personal interviews were conducted to fill in the gaps. The results of the study reveal that the majority of the faculty members prefer to publish in electronic formats refereed journals, due to the advantages of publishing in e-Journals. Furthermore, the findings show that faculty members are also concerned about the disadvantages of e-Publishing. On the basis of the findings, some suggestions have been recommended to make publishing in e-Journals more acceptable to those scholars at UJ who still do not use it, as well as to maximize the use of e-Publishing because of the advantages that it may offer.

My Speech on China's Human Rights at the University of Nantes

At the invitation of Professor Francois Collart-Dutilleul from the University of Nantes in France, I attendedan international academic conference fo- cusing on the EU＇s foreign policies after the Lisbon Treaty, which was held at the university from Nov. 21 to Dec. 1,2011. The Relationship Between Job Satisfaction and Employee Performance of Teacher in N University, China

At present,as of June 15,2019,the Ministry of Education announced a total of 2,956 institutions of higher learning in China,including 2,688 regular institutions of higher learning(including 266 independent colleges)and 268 adult institutions of higher learning.At present,the development of colleges and universities is also facing serious problems.With the development and progress of the times,many colleges and universities are getting better and better,which is closely related to the teachers’strength and teachers’job satisfaction.It is very important to improve the job satisfaction of university staff.The introduction of teachers is crucial,and many schools are weak in teaching staff,which hinders the long-term development of schools.The turnover of teachers in colleges and universities is closely related to job satisfaction.At present,the overall turnover of teachers in colleges and universities is too frequent.The rapid development of China’s colleges and universities is still expanding the scale of development,which requires more teachers.In the ensuing enterprise competition,university positions are not dominant,mainly in the current life,salary is very important,family expenses,parents,and children’s expenses are getting higher and higher,but the salary of university teachers cannot keep up with the development of the times.At present,one of the problems in colleges and universities is that salary promotion is not friendly to teachers with old qualifications,high academic qualifications,and high professional titles.Therefore,to improve the job satisfaction of college teachers is the only way for the long-term development of colleges and universities.This study investigated the relationship between job satisfaction and employee performance among 341 teachers from N University in Nanning,Guangxi province,China.The independent variable is six factors of job satisfaction,including working environment,salary and promotion,job security,relationship with colleagues,relationship with supervisor,and fairness level.The dependent variable is three factors of employee performance,including enthusiasm,availability,and job engagement.Finally,through data analysis,it was concluded that there was a positive correlation between teachers’job satisfaction and staff performance in N University.

Re-examining the mission of the university in mass higher education

More attention should be paid to four issues during the massification of Chinese higher education:(1)how to understand the prime cause of the expansion of higher education;(2)how to reinforce liberal education;(3)how to balance the relationship between equality and excellence;and(4)how to harmonize the relationship between the university,the government and the market.All these are based on the orientation about the ultimate goal of universities.Modern universities must make students and the public understand that their ultimate mission is places where stratagems for profits and opportunities of employment are provided;rather,modern universities should inspire students’rationalistic potencies,cultivate their ability to look upon the development of individuals,society and history from a long-term and all-around perspective.

The Effect of Using L1 （Arabic Language） in the L2 （English Language） Classroom on the Achievement in General English of Foundation Year Students in King Abdulaziz University

This study aims at investigating the effect of using L 1 （Arabic Language） while teaching a target language （English Language） on the achievement in General English of foundation year students in King Abdulaziz University. To achieve the purpose of the study, the researcher used an experimental design： an experimental group and a control group. The independent variable is using L1 while teaching English in very limited and specified areas. The dependent variable is students＇ achievement in general English. The statistics used is the t-test. The population of the study was all students enrolled in the foundation year 1431/1432 in the ELI （English Language Institute） at King Abdulaziz University. The sample of the study consisted of 50 students taking North Star in the sections A and B as a university requirement in the foundation year 1431/1432 in King Abdulaziz University. The results of the study were in favor of banning Arabic in the English language classroom as shown in the mean scores of the control and experimental groups in the tables. It is recommended that teachers and instructors should be trained to use teaching strategies that help them use English only in the English language classroom.

Global sensitivity and uncertainty analysis of the VIP ecosystem model with an expanded soil nitrogen module for winter wheat-summer maize rotation system in the North China Plain

Accurately simulating the soil nitrogen(N)cycle is crucial for assessing food security and resource utilization efficiency.The accuracy of model predictions relies heavily on model parameterization.The sensitivity and uncertainty of the simulations of soil N cycle of winter wheat-summer maize rotation system in the North China Plain(NCP)to the parameters were analyzed.First,the N module in the Vegetation Interface Processes(VIP)model was expanded to capture the dynamics of soil N cycle calibrated with field measurements in three ecological stations from 2000 to 2015.Second,the Morris and Sobol algorithms were adopted to identify the sensitive parameters that impact soil nitrate stock,denitrification rate,and ammonia volatilization rate.Finally,the shuffled complex evolution developed at the University of Arizona(SCE-UA)algorithm was used to optimize the selected sensitive parameters to improve prediction accuracy.The results showed that the sensitive parameters related to soil nitrate stock included the potential nitrification rate,Michaelis constant,microbial C/N ratio,and slow humus C/N ratio,the sensitive parameters related to denitrification rate were the potential denitrification rate,Michaelis constant,and N2 O production rate,and the sensitive parameters related to ammonia volatilization rate included the coefficient of ammonia volatilization exchange and potential nitrification rate.Based on the optimized parameters,prediction efficiency was notably increased with the highest coefficient of determination being approximately 0.8.Moreover,the average relative interval length at the 95% confidence level for soil nitrate stock,denitrification rate,and ammonia volatilization rate were 11.92,0.008,and 4.26,respectively,and the percentages of coverage of the measured values in the 95% confidence interval were 68%,86%,and 92%,respectively.By identifying sensitive parameters related to soil N,the expanded VIP model optimized by the SCE-UA algorithm can effectively simulate the dynamics of soil nitrate stock,denitrification rate,and ammonia volatilization rate in the NCP.
