The Radical Character of Art and the Pedagogical and Political Value of the ＂Sublime＂ in Adorno＇s Aesthetic Theory

The critical nature of artwork is owed, according to Adorno, to the fact that it opposes its assimilation by reason and that it does not yield to the imposition of its established principles. This character which Heidegger, too, through a paradoxical convergence with Adorno, and in opposition to Lukacs, recognizes as its ontological component, permits the work of art to represent a force of resistance to dominance in general, in the prospect of the salvation of a humanized society. As such, it makes possible the radical rejection of political and, pertinent to it, pedagogical activity, when converted into primarily authoritiarian activity. Such a responsibility does art assume, according to Adorno, when it represents a spirituality, which is embodied in exemplary fashion both in the work of art itself, making the experience of the sublime possible, and in the aesthetic of the sublime, which is concentrated intensively on whatever remains unapproachable through concepts. In this way, we could say that the aesthetic of the sublime is converted into ＂first philosophy,＂ in the sense that it provides the rule for every theoretical approach. Concurring with this reading of Adorno, we consider how the sublime, as shown in the context of his aesthetic theory, is governed, furthermore, by a paideutic principle of exceptional significance, which we must necessarily activate through aesthetic education, so that western man may understand that he must uproot himself from the nihilistic social context in which he lives, rupturing the delusion of his omnipotence. In a world governed by a permanent crisis of democracy in public and private life, since the weakening of political imagination unites with the retreat from political ethos and an generalization of the unprecedented will for dominance, we consider this aesthetic theory to be exceptionally essential and useful to us both as pedagogical theory and as political theory, since it allows us to understand that the experience of the sublime through art is in opposition to this condition of destruction, and indeed represents the ideal of justice.

The Current Situation and Counter Measures of Compilation of English Literature Textbooks in the Context of New Liberal Arts

Decorative Art of Doors and Windows in Southern Jiangxi:Taking Bailu Ancient Village as an Example

China,as a country with 56 ethnic groups,has different geographical location,historical development and national customs.Residents in different places have incorporated different cultural characteristics when building local houses.This differentiated cultural and artistic feature is a reflection of the cultural connotation in a specific age and region.However,cultural protection is not always perfect.Many details are missed in this torrent of conservation culture,and door and window decorations are in this position.When collecting data,it is found that there is very little research on door and window decoration in Jiangxi.In this study,taking the doors and windows of Bailu Ancient Village as an example,combined with the cultural history of door and window decoration in southern Jiangxi,the artistic essence and historical value of the decorative patterns of houses were discussed.After searching a large number of documents,a field investigation was conducted in Bailu Ancient Village.Through direct observation of doors and windows and asking local residents about their understanding of door and window decoration,the history,current situation and future of door and window decoration in Bailu Ancient Village were described in detailed and predicted roughly.

Comparison on Cultural Connotation of Plant in Treasure Island and The Swordsman

In the development of human civilization, plant has been closely attached to human beings, and also been endowed with rich cultural imagery. However, ascribed to the differences between Chinese and English cultures, plant of the same kind exhibits similar, distinct or vacant characteristics. This paper adopts comparison method so as to compare and to analyze the differences and similarities of cultural connotation contained in plant emerging in Treasure Island （a representative of western adventure literature） and The Swordsman （a representative of Chinese martial arts literature） and roles plant plays in a certain chapter, or the whole story. The literature study presents a general knowledge of research theories in this field and cultural background. The Impact of the Emergence of Eurasian Art Communities in the Globalizing World

Eurasian art study is an interdisciplinary approach to the solution of the problems of ethno-national rivalry and contradictions, dominating in the world. Although the roots of Eurasian arts goes back to Aristotelian-Avicennian tradition, created in Central Asia （CA） of the eve of the last millennium, the evidence of that common tradition： archaeological, philological, philosophical, linguistic, etc., interconnected with each other and recognized by the diversity of the academic schools of the last century, are not included into educational programs of the universities of the modem times. That miss, creating a gap in the world system of knowledge, restricts development of international affairs and diplomacy in its global significance. The Value of the Yangzhou Storytelling of Rogue Pi Wu

Yangzhou pinghua 評話(Yangzhou storytelling), as a genre of vernacular performing arts, appeared in Yangzhou in the late Ming 明(1368-1644) and early Qing 清(1616-1912) times. The Yangzhou pinghua repertoire of Pi Wu lazi 皮五辣子(Rogue Pi Wu) initially created in Yangzhou around the Qianlong 乾隆(1735-1796) era has been passed down to the present times and performed by Yang Mingkun 楊明坤(1949-). In this paper, the author will examine some historical aspects of Yangzhou city that is reflected in the narrative of Rogue Pi Wu recited by Yang Mingkun and the basics of the repertoire of Rogue Pi Wu by referring to the historical documents related to Yangzhou pinghua and the modern studies on the history of Yangzhou city, aiming to point out that Yang’s repertoire of Rogue Pi Wu is of great research value to the study on Yangzhou storytelling. In addition, the origins and values of this thesis and the methodology adopted in conducting the present research are introduced.
