Japanese garden was born out of Chinese garden, but because of the difference of geographical environment and national culture, Japanese gardens combine Chinese culture with local national characteristics, forming a unique garden culture in Japan. Based on the research on Japanese gardens like pond garden, rock garden and tea garden, this study analyzed the cultural connotation in Japanese garden landscape design, made in-depth understanding of Japanese landscape development, explored the value existing in the contemporary garden design of Japanese gardens, with the aim to make use of the excellent experience to the garden landscape design in the future.展开更多
Purpose:This article provides an overview of how childhood curriculum in the United Arab Emirates(UAE)is designed to serve cultural values.Design/Approach/Methods:The framework of kindergarten curriculum adopts the un...Purpose:This article provides an overview of how childhood curriculum in the United Arab Emirates(UAE)is designed to serve cultural values.Design/Approach/Methods:The framework of kindergarten curriculum adopts the uniqueness of children laying the foundation for their cultural identity.This paper provides a description of how this is achieved through a case study of the kindergarten curriculum in the UAE.Findings:The core elements of Emirati culture are delivered in the early childhood education(ECE)curriculum,which is influenced by global practices.Islamic studies is a key component in the Emirati kindergarten curriculum,which is designed to help children practice principles of religion,with the main Islamic values of gratitude and charity as aspects that are deeply embedded.Similarly,through social studies,children learn about Emirati heritage and culture.In addition to exposure to world communities,the learning experience engages children in authentic stories that relate to their personal lives,families,and community to build national awareness.Originality/Value:This paper sheds light on ECE in the UAE.Although the topic is of interest to UAE policymakers and educators and the global audience interested in UAE education,there is no study to the researcher's best knowledge that has examined the influence of the UAE culture on ECEcurriculum.展开更多
As one of the oldest and best-known park systems,the US National Park System continues to influence park systems around the world.However,the origins and wide diversity of US national parks are often not fully underst...As one of the oldest and best-known park systems,the US National Park System continues to influence park systems around the world.However,the origins and wide diversity of US national parks are often not fully understood as there is a long-lived misconception that the large western parks represent the entirety of the US National Park System.In fact,the establishment of the first US national parks was heavily influenced by large 19th-century picturesque urban parks that provided benefits to the public and society.The foundational concept of national parks serving a public purpose has never changed,however,the types of landscapes selected as national parks have changed as societal values have evolved and now the system provides public benefits beyond those originally envisioned.This paper examines the development of the US National Park System,emphasising the evolution of landscape values.The emergence of the cultural landscape concept illustrates the evolution of landscape values from their early antecedents in the late 19th century to their contributions to innovative conservation strategies today.Throughout the development of the US National Park System,international exchange has and continues to play a pivotal role,advancing the inter-linkages of culture and nature for the most effective conservation.展开更多
The intention of this present paper is to explore the relationship between culture and perception and the cultural factors that affect people's perceptions from different cultural backgrounds. This study is based ...The intention of this present paper is to explore the relationship between culture and perception and the cultural factors that affect people's perceptions from different cultural backgrounds. This study is based on a case, which is a news report about the cultural conflict between an old Chinese father and her daughter who has been living in Canada for eight years. Detailed information has been acquired by the author using relative books, journals as well as her own understanding and interpretation. It is concluded that to be aware of the cultural factors is of great importance to understand why people from different cultures have quite different perceptions toward the same thing, which can help to reduce the conflicts and misunderstandings in intercultural communication.展开更多
