Distribution and Formation Causes of PM_(2.5) and O_(3) Double High Pollution Events in China during 2013–20

Fine particulate matter(PM_(2.5))and ozone(O_(3))double high pollution(DHP)events have occurred frequently over China in recent years,but their causes are not completely clear.In this study,the spatiotemporal distribu... Fine particulate matter(PM_(2.5))and ozone(O_(3))double high pollution(DHP)events have occurred frequently over China in recent years,but their causes are not completely clear.In this study,the spatiotemporal distribution of DHP events in China during 2013–20 is analyzed.The synoptic types affecting DHP events are identified with the Lamb–Jenkinson circulation classification method.The meteorological and chemical causes of DHP events controlled by the main synoptic types are further investigated.Results show that DHP events(1655 in total for China during 2013–20)mainly occur over the North China Plain,Yangtze River Delta,Pearl River Delta,Sichuan Basin,and Central China.The occurrence frequency increases by 5.1%during 2013–15,and then decreases by 56.1%during 2015–20.The main circulation types of DHP events are“cyclone”and“anticyclone”,accounting for over 40%of all DHP events over five main polluted regions in China,followed by southerly or easterly flat airflow types,like“southeast”,“southwest”,and“east”.Compared with non-DHP events,DHP events are characterized by static or weak wind,high temperature(20.9℃ versus 23.1℃)and low humidity(70.0%versus 64.9%).The diurnal cycles of meteorological conditions cause PM_(2.5)(0300–1200 LST,Local Standard Time=UTC+8 hours)and O_(3)(1500–2100 LST)to exceed the national standards at different periods of the DHP day.Three pollutant conversion indices further indicate the rapid secondary conversions during DHP events,and thus the concentrations of NO_(2),SO_(2) and volatile organic compounds decrease by 13.1%,4.7%and 4.4%,respectively.The results of this study can be informative for future decisions on the management of DHP events. 展开更多

High-speed rail(HSR) has formed a networked operational scale in China. Any internal or external disturbance may deviate trains’ operation from the planned schedules, resulting in primary delays or even cascading delays on a network scale. Studying the delay propagation mechanism could help to improve the timetable resilience in the planning stage and realize cooperative rescheduling for dispatchers. To quickly and effectively predict the spatial-temporal range of cascading delays, this paper proposes a max-plus algebra based delay propagation model considering trains’ operation strategy and the systems’ constraints. A double-layer network based breadth-first search algorithm based on the constraint network and the timetable network is further proposed to solve the delay propagation process for different kinds of emergencies. The proposed model could deal with the delay propagation problem when emergencies occur in sections or stations and is suitable for static emergencies and dynamic emergencies. Case studies show that the proposed algorithm can significantly improve the computational efficiency of the large-scale HSR network. Moreover, the real operational data of China HSR is adopted to verify the proposed model, and the results show that the cascading delays can be timely and accurately inferred, and the delay propagation characteristics under three kinds of emergencies are unfolded. 展开更多

The welding heat source models and the plastic tension zone sizes of a typical weld joint involved in the double floor structure of high speed train under different welding parameters were calculated by a thermal-elastic-plastic FEM analysis based on SYSWELD code.Then,the welding distortion of floor structure was predicted using a linear elastic FEM and shrinkage method based on Weld Planner software.The effects of welding sequence,clamping configuration and reverse deformation on welding distortion of floor structure were examined numerically.The results indicate that the established elastic FEM model for floor structure is reliable for predicting the distribution of welding distortion in view of the good agreement between the calculated results and the measured distortion for real double floor structure.Compared with the welding sequence,the clamping configuration and the reverse deformation have a significant influence on the welding distortion of floor structure.In the case of30 mm reverse deformation,the maximum deformation can be reduced about 70%in comparison to an actual welding process. 展开更多

Double network(DN)hydrogels as one kind of tough gels have attracted extensive at-tention for their potential applications in biomedical and load-bearing fields.Herein,we import more functions like shape memory into the conventional tough DN hydro-gel system.We synthesize the PEG-PDAC/P(AAm-co-AAc)DN hydrogels,of which the first network is a well-defined PEG(polyethylene glycol)network loaded with PDAC(poly(acryloyloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride))strands,while the second network is formed by copolymerizing AAm(acrylamide)with AAc(acrylic acid)and cross-linker MBAA(N;N′-methylenebisacrylamide).The PEG-PDAC/P(AAm-co-AAc)DN gels exhibits high mechanical strength.The fracture stress and toughness of the DN gels reach up to 0.9 MPa and 3.8 MJ/m^3,respectively.Compared with the conventional double network hydrogels with neutral polymers as the soft and ductile second network,the PEG-PDAC/P(AAm-co-AAc)DN hydrogels use P(AAm-co-AAc),a weak polyelectrolyte,as the second network.The AAc units serve as the coordination points with Fe^3+ions and physically crosslink the second network,which realizes the shape memory property activated by the reducing ability of ascorbic acid.Our results indicate that the high mechanical strength and shape memory properties,probably the two most important characters related to the potential application of the hydrogels,can be introduced simultaneously into the DN hydrogels if the functional monomer has been integrated into the network of DN hydrogels smartly. 展开更多

An example of sea level pressure (SLP) and sea surface temperature (SST) is displayed for a summer month based on historical monthly mean data for the North Pacific. A double North Pacific High (NPH) co-occurred with a double large-scale SST maximum along 40 N. Centers of the two NPHs had very nearly the same longitudes as did the SST maxima. Seven similar coincidences happened within the 30-year records. These particular associations between extrema of SLPs and SSTs enhance a previously published conjecture that single and double NPHs are caused by heat transfer from the sea surface to the atmosphere. The eastern SST maximum is the signature of a permanent wide warm surface current flowing northeast off California. To the west of it in the summer is a transient wide warm surge of surface water flowing north as it crosses mid-latitudes. These are the heat sources that generate the single and double NPHs. 展开更多

A novel A1GaN/GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) with double buried p-type layers (DBPLs) in the GaN buffer layer and its mechanism are studied. The DBPL A1GaN/GaN HEMT is characterized by two equi-long p-type GaN layers which are buried in the GaN buffer layer under the source side. Under the condition of high-voltage blocking state, two reverse p-n junctions introduced by the buried p-type layers will effectively modulate the surface and bulk electric fields. Meanwhile, the buffer leakage is well suppressed in this structure and both lead to a high breakdown voltage. The simulations show that the breakdown voltage of the DBPL structure can reach above 2000 V from 467 V of the conventional structure with the same gate-drain length of 8μm. 展开更多

There is an urgent need for low-cost,high-energy-density,environmentally friendly energy storage devices to fulfill the rapidly increasing need for electrical energy storage.Multi-electron redox is considerably crucial for the development of high-energy-density cathodes.Here we present highperformance aqueous zinc-manganese batteries with reversible Mn2+/Mn4+ double redox.The active Mn4+is generated in situ from the Mn2+-containing MnOx nanoparticles and electrolyte.Benefitting from the low crystallinity of the birnessite-type MnO2 as well as the electrolyte with Mn2+additive,the MnOX cathode achieves an ultrahigh energy density with a peak of845.1 Wh kg-1 and an ultralong lifespan of 1500 cycles.The combination of electrochemical measurements and material characterization reveals the reversible Mn2+/Mn4+double redox(birnessite-type MnO2? monoclinic MnOOH and spinel ZnMn2O4 H?Mn2+ions).The reversible Mn2+/Mn4+double redox electrode reaction mechanism offers new opportunities for the design of low-cost,high-energy-density cathodes for advanced rechargeable aqueous batteries. 展开更多

Double perovskite oxide Sr2 Co Fe O6(SCFO) has been obtained using a high-pressure and high-temperature(HPHT)synthesis method. Valence states of Fe and Co and their distributions in SCFO were examined with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The electric transport behavior of SCFO showed a semiconductor behavior that can be well described by Mott's law for variable-range hopping conduction. The structural stability of SCFO was investigated at pressures up to 31 GPa with no pressure-induced phase transition found. Bulk modulus B0 was determined to be 163(2) GPa by fitting the pressure–volume data to the Birch–Murnaghan equation of state. 展开更多

The morphological characters of each population were investigated at the heading stage, and the data were analyzed by using ANOVY and other statistic methods. The plant ideal morphological characters at the heading stage were established as follows: 1 ) for the early-season cropping, 90-105 cm plant height; 11-12 tillers per plant; 35-40 em length and 2.1-2.2 cm width of flag leaf; 46-50 cm length and 1.8-2.1 cm width of the second leaf from the top (L2); 59-64 cm length and 1.4-1.9 cm width of the third leaf from the top (L3); 7°-14°, 18° and 200-33° for the ideal leaf angles of the flag leaf, L2 and L3, respectively; 2) for the late-season cropping, 90-100 cm plant height; 9-15 tillers per plant; 30-41 cm length and 1.8-2.0 cm width of flag leaf; 53-61 cm length and 1.3-1.8 cm width of L2; 52-58 cm length and 1.2-1.5 cm width of L3; 9°-19°, 15°-37° and 16°-49° for the ideal leaf angles of the flag leaf, L2 and L3, respectively. Extreme Light Concentration and High Absorption of the Double Cylindrical Microcavities

We numerically study the enhancement factor of energy density and absorption efficiency inside the double cylindrical microcavities based on a triple-band metamaterial absorber. The compact single unit cell consists of concentric gold rings with a gold disk in the center and a metallic ground plane separated by a dielectric layer. We demonstrate that the multilayer structure with subwavelength electromagnetic confinement allows 104-105-fold enhancement of the electromagnetic energy density inside the double cavities and contains the most energy of the incoming light. Particularly, the enhancement factor of energy density G shows strong ability of localizing light and some regularity as the change of the thickness of the dielectric slab and dielectric constant. At the normal incidence of electromagnetic radiation, the obtained reflection spectra show that the resonance frequencies of the double microcavities operate in the range of 10-30μm. We also calculate the absorption efficiency C, which can reach 95%, 97% and 95% at corresponding frequency by optimizing the structure's geometry parameters. Moreover, the proposed structure will be insensitive to the polarization of the incident wave due to the symmetry of the double cylindrical microcavities. The proposed optical metamaterial is a promising candidate as absorbing elements in scientific and technical applications due to its extreme confinement, multiband absorption and polarization insensitivity. 展开更多

An actuator is a machine or component installed on the top of an industrial valve for automatically moving and controlling the valve.The performance of a valve is largely dependent on its actuator.An actuator can be hydraulic,pneumatic,or electrical.This paper focuses on hydraulic actuators,which are common for large size and high-pressure class ball valves.Hydraulic actuators can be either single-acting(spring return)or double-acting.Single-acting actuators return to safe mode in case of failure.However,double-acting actuators have a fail-as-is function and cannot keep the valves open or closed in case of failure.This research used a combination of theoretical and experimental approaches.The paper discusses two case studies in offshore industry projects in which double-acting hydraulic actuators were selected instead of single-acting,and possible design impacts are discussed.A theoretical review is given in three papers about operating torque for ball valves,optimization of shutdown valve actuator weight,and design and analysis of hydraulic actuators.These three papers were selected for review to connect the valve required torque with actuator sizing and selection,finding practical approaches to optimize the actuator weight as well as develop a theoretical model to calculate the actuator thickness and dimensions for the 38”CL1500 ball valve in the Johan Sverdrup project.The proposed formulas and calculations used for sizing the 38”CL1500 ball valves were validated through a finite element analysis model. 展开更多

A high resolution upwind compact streamfunction numerical algorithm for two-dimensional(2D)double-diffusive convection(DDC)is developed.The unsteady Navier-Stokes(N-S)equations in the streamfunction-velocity form and the scalar temperature and concentration equations are used.An optimized third-order upwind compact(UCD3 opt)scheme with a low dispersion error for the first derivatives is utilized to approximate the third derivatives of the streamfunction in the advection terms of the N-S equations and the first derivatives in the advection terms of the scalar temperature and concentration equations.The remaining first derivatives of the streamfunction(velocity),temperature,and concentration variables used in the governing equations are discretized by the fourth-order compact Pade(SCD4)schemes.With the temperature and concentration variables and their approximate values of the first derivatives obtained by the SCD4 schemes,the explicit fourth-order compact schemes are suggested to approximate the second derivatives of temperature and concentration in the diffusion terms of the energy and concentration equations.The discretization of the temporal term is executed with the second-order Crank-Nicolson(C-N)scheme.To assess the spatial behavior capability of the established numerical algorithm and verify the developed computer code,the DDC flow is numerically solved.The obtained results agree well with the benchmark solutions and some accurate results available in the literature,verifying the accuracy,effectiveness,and robustness of the provided algorithm.Finally,a preliminary application of the proposed method to the DDC is carried out. 展开更多

In the experiments, a fundamental mode output laser was acquired. Recently, the phase compensation technique has allowed the ultrasound to propagate through the skull and focus into the brain. However, the temperature evolution during treatment is hard to control to achieve effective treatment and avoid over-high temperature. Proposed in this paper is a method to modulate the temperature distribution in the focal region. It superimposes two signals which focus on two preset different targets with a certain distance. Then the temperature distribution is modulated by changing triggering time delay and amplitudes of the two signals. The simulation model is established based on an 82-element transducer and computed tomography (CT) data of a volunteer's head. A finite- difference time-domain (FDTD) method is used to calculate the temperature distributions. The results show that when the distances between the two targets respectively are 7.5-12.5 mm on the acoustic axis and 2.0-3.0 mm in the direction perpendicular to the acoustic axis, a focal region with a uniform temperature distribution (64-65 ℃) can be created. Moreover, the volume of the focal region formed by one irradiation can be adjusted (26.8-266.7 mm3) along with the uniform temperature distribution. This method may ensure the safety and efficacy of HIFU brain tumor therapy. 展开更多

Firstly, this paper constructs the indicator system based on the high-quality development theory and the characteristic of the construction industry from seven dimensions: industrial scale, industrial efficiency, industrial benefits, industrial innovation, industrial risk, industrial potential, and the green development of the construction industry. Secondly, using the global principal component analysis (PCA) method to measure the high-quality development level. Thirdly, cluster analysis is applied to measure the relative changes of various dimensions in different stages. The results show that overall the high-quality development level of the construction industry in Henan province is increasing, but different indicators perform differently in various stages, and the changes in real estate policies have a significant impact on this. Finally, based on these findings, we think it is better to reduce real estate dependence, promote the application of new materials and technologies and maintain the stability of real estate policies. 展开更多

This paper presents a novel scheme of high efficiency spreading spectrum modulation using double orthogonal complex sequences (DoCS). In this scheme, input data bit-stream is split into many groups with length M. Each group is then mapped into a word of width M and then utihzed to select one sequence from 2u-2 DoCS sequences each with length L. After that, the selected sequence is modulated on carrier in quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) mode. In addition, a new method named forward phase correction (FPC) is put forward for carrier recovery. Theoretical analysis and bit-error-ratio(BER) experiment results indicate that the proposed scheme has better performance than the conventional direct sequence spread spectrum(DSSS) scheme both in bandwidth efficiency and processing gain of the receiver. 展开更多
