Jumong is a legendary figure in Korean mythology. He is depicted as a genius archer,a brilliant mind with horses,a god who rules the rivers and the sky.Jumong is a mythical character who is believed to be of divine descent and to possess superhuman abilities that humans cannot match. The myth of Jumong is a very competitive content that can compete on a global scale. However,in order for it to be successful,it is necessary to be able to reinterpret our mythology to suit the times and reproduce it culturally. To this end,the realistic globalization of Korean classical literature should commence with the genre of Korean mythology. This paper presents the educational significance of the Jumong myth as a teaching-learning model, via STEAM(science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics),on the theme of Korean mythology. As we enter the era of artificial intelligence(AI)through the 4th Industrial Revolution, the most appropriate teaching and learning method, the convergence class, will provide an opportunity for students living in modern times to discover the cultural archetypes that allow them to recognise themselves as individuals and us as a collective, and to find the roots of the myth to positively renew their identity.Furthermore,it is my hope that they will rediscover and appreciate the representative work of Korean mythology,Gojomong, the eponymous story of Goguryeo. 展开更多

Elderly individuals are adults who are often treated like children and, even worse,as numbers.Physical and mental degeneration is to some extent an inevitable occurrence. The problem that is not yet solved by biology and medicine lies in the acceleration of decay and the severity of certain pathologies. There is a relationship between the health of the elderly and their previous lifestyles, current social conditions, network of emotional relationships, and their personality structure. The organization and culture of society, still shaped by the principles of modernity, are the second major obstacle to the well-being of the elderly. On the one hand, the elderly face difficulties due to the organization of cities, transportation, housing structures, services, and families. On the other hand, the elderly’s condition is hindered by mental images, prejudices, ethical principles, cultural stereotypes,or by a social organization and culture modelled on the healthy, productive, reproductive adult male inserted into a family unit. The aim of this essay is reviewing the literature on AHA(active and healthy ageing),analyse the theoretical models and definitions, explore related normative terms and concepts, and create a comprehensive thematic overview of what constitutes AHA’s dimensions, attributes, antecedents, and consequences. 展开更多

However, the study of celestial objects in the country is confined to its observation and publication of data. There is no course in astrnonmy in the tertiary level while it is briefly covered in the general science curriculum of the elementary and high schools in the country. No serious research activity has been conducted primarily due to lack of necessary research instruments such as a high grade telescope and the required formal education or training of staff in astronomy to perform such an activity. The possible donation of a 45cm high grade telescope with its accessories by the government of Japan, through its Cultural Grant aid Program, to the Philippines will upgrade the capability of the Astronomical Observatory of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to observe and study astronomical objects and phenomena. Likewise, it will improve services in the promotion of the science of astronomy in the country, especially in education and training of science teachers. 展开更多

Education philosophy, which plays a major role in teacher beliefs,is crucial for teacher educators. Ever since the end of last century, there has been a trend in North America to promote, or restore active learning in college/university classrooms. This paper, based on some explorations of the social constructivism, the six assumptions in Andragogy, the ARCS model, the active learning theory and some practical activities, proposes an integrated education philosophy about adult learning. It is assumed this will be able to provide some insight and guidance for college practitioners. 展开更多

Background: Self-efficacy has been identified as an important determinant of youth's behavior change including physical activity(PA) participation. However, the dimensionality check of a PA self-efficacy scale has rarely been conducted in China. The current study aims to examine(1) the unidimensionality of a shortened Chinese version of PA self-efficacy scale(S-PASESC);(2) the measurement invariance of S-PASESC across gender and levels of education;(3) the latent factor mean difference between gender and levels of education;(4) the direct effects of self-efficacy on PA by different gender and education levels; and(5) the comparisons of the direct effects of self-efficacy on PA across gender and education levels. Methods: The participants were 5 th through 11 th grade public school students recruited from 7 cities located in different geographic regions of China. The final data include a total of 3003 participants(49.7% boys) who have completed the scales. Results: Confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) test supported the unidimensionality of S-PASESC. The S-PASESC is invariant across gender and 3 levels of education at both configural, full metric, and full scalar levels. Findings from latent mean comparisons showed that boys reported higher PA self-efficacy than girls. Students' perceived PA self-efficacy tend to decrease from elementary to high school. Finally, self-efficacy positively related to PA by groups of different gender and education levels and the relationship between self-efficacy and PA is stronger among middle school boys than girls. Conclusion: Findings suggest S-PASESC is a valid scale for measuring Chinese students' PA self-efficacy. 展开更多

Purpose:Grounded in self-determination theory(SDT),the present study tested how students’perceptions of autonomy support from physical education teachers predicts objectively measured moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA)of adolescents.According to SDT,it was expected that psychological needs and autonomous and controlled forms of motivation would mediate these relationships.Methods:Students(n=397)aged from 11 to 15 years in 17 different schools filled in questionnaires regarding SDT variables. In addition, objective MVPA was measured using an accelerometer(ActiGraph GT3X;ActiGraph,Pensacola,FL,USA)for 7 days.Structural equation modelling was used to examine the hypothesized relationships among the study variables. Results:The theory-based model showed a good fit with the data:x2=642.464,df=257;comparative fit index=0.932;non-normed fit index=0.921;root mean square error of approximation=0.062;root mean square error of approximation 90%confidence interval:0.0540.067.As hypothesized, there was a significant and positive direct relationship between autonomy support and need satisfaction(b=0.81,p=0.001).In turn, need satisfaction positively predicted intrinsic motivation(b=0.86,p=0.001).Intrinsic motivation was positively related to MVPA(b=0.29,p=0.009).A significant indirect effect(b=0.20,p=0.004)supported the mediating role of psychological need satisfaction and intrinsic motivation in the relationship between perceived autonomy support and objectively measured MVPA.Conclusion:The findings of the current study support the applicability of the SDT-based model in explaining the antecedents of objectively measured MVPA of adolescents. To enhance adolescents’daily MVPA,special focus should be put on increasing their intrinsic motivation toward physical education. 展开更多

Personalized education provides an open learning environment which enriches the advanced technologies to establish a paradigm shift, active and dynamic teaching and learning patterns. E-learning has a various established approaches to the creation and sequencing of content-based, single learner, and self-paced learning objects. However, there is little understanding of how to create sequences of learning activities which involve groups of learners interacting within a structured set of collaborative environments. In this paper, we present an approach for learning activity sequencing based on ontology and activity graph in personalized education system. There is little evidence on the potential of widely implemented programs to improve the quality of physical education (PE). The aim was to assess the effects of a short training course for classroom teachers on the quality of PE, assessed as activity time during PE. A quasi-experimental study was conducted with 6 intervention (N = 86) and 13 control classes (N = 151). Schools were selected in a random procedure (26.9% participation). Participation in children was 86.2% (mean age 7.8 years, 48.9% girls). Physical activity was assessed objectively using accelerometers. Effect on time spent in sedentary, moderate, vigorous and moderate-to-vigorous (MVPA) activities, steps and counts/minute during PE were analysed using t-tests and mixed linear models. Physical activity time increased significantly in the intervention but not in the control group between baseline and follow-up (relative increase in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity of 12% in intervention group). Increases were strongest in girls and in children inactive at baseline. In the mixed linear models adjusted for clustering, the effects were significant in girls for vigorous activities, sedentary time and counts/minute, in inactive children for steps. Results indicate that a short training course for classroom teachers can have subtle positive effects on physical activity time during PE. Girls and the most inactive children at baseline profited most from the intervention. 展开更多

This paper categorizes educational historiography as part of“historiography”because educational historiography is leaning towards historiography in spite of being a fundamental educational discipline with the dual disciplinary attributes of education and historiography. It is argued that the nature of a discipline is partly defined by its researchers and its roles, but more importantly,by its origin, major research topics and objectives, basic research theories, methodologies and paradigms,as well as its relations with cognate disciplines. And each of the above factors is elaborated on to illuminate the dual disciplinary nature of educational historiography. From the perspective of educational science, what reflects the nature of education the best is people’s“educational activities,”which can be defined as the aggregate of specific activities directed to promoting valuable human development, and the various ways educators and learners participate and interact in the educational process. This paper maintains that the history of educational activities constitutes an upside-down triangle relation with the histories of educational thoughts and system. The history of educational activities is the origin, premise and foundation, whereas the latter two are the derivatives and results. Therefore, the history of educational activities must be studied as part of the research on the history of education. 展开更多
