Thus, it is very important to evaluate the effects of ra- diotherapy on the surrounding nervous tissue. In the present study, we used three-dimensional, conformal, intensity-modulated radiation therapy to treat bilateral femoral hydatid disease in Meriones meridiani. The focus of the hydatid disease on the left femur was subiected to radio- therapy (40 Gy) for 14 days, and the right femur received sham irradiation. Hematoxylin-eosin staining, electron microscopy, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-dUTP nick end labeling assays on the left femurs showed that the left sciatic nerve cell structure was normal, with no ob- vious apoptosis after radiation. Trypan blue staining demonstrated that the overall protoscolex structure in bone parasitized with Echinococcus granulosus disappeared in the left femur of the animals after treatment. The mortality of the protoscolex was higher in the left side than in the right side. The succinate dehydrogenase activity in the protoscolex in bone parasitized with Echi- nococcus granulosus was lower in the left femur than in the right femur. These results suggest that three-dimensional conformal intensity-modulated radiation therapy achieves good therapeutic effects on the secondary bone in hydatid disease in Meriones meridiani without damaging the morphology or function of the sciatic nerve.展开更多
Objective To evaluate the outcomes of T3 a prostate cancer with unfavorable prognostic factors treated with permanent interstitial brachytherapy combined with external radiotherapy and hormone therapy.Methods From Jan...Objective To evaluate the outcomes of T3 a prostate cancer with unfavorable prognostic factors treated with permanent interstitial brachytherapy combined with external radiotherapy and hormone therapy.Methods From January 2003 to December 2008,38 patients classified as T3 a prostate cancer with unfavorable prognostic factors were treated with trimodality therapy(brachytherapy + external radiotherapy + hormone therapy).The prescription dose of brachytherapy and external radiotherapy were 110 Gy and 45 Gy,respectively.The duration of hormone therapy was 2-3 years.The endpoints of this study included biochemical failure-free survival(BFFS),distant metastasis-free survival(DMFS),cancer-specific survival(CSS),and overall survival(OS).Survival curves were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method.The Log-rank test was used to identify the prognostic predictors for univariate analysis.Results The median follow-up was 71 months.The serum pre-treatment prostate-specific antigen(PSA) level ranged from 10.0 to 99.8 ng/ml(mean 56.3 ng/ml),the Gleason score ranged from 5 to 9(median 8),and the percentage of positive biopsy cores ranged from 10% to 100%(mean 65%).The 5-year BFFS,DMFS,CSS,and OS rates were 44%,69%,82%,and 76%,respectively.All biochemical failures occurred within 40 months.The percentage of positive biopsy cores was significantly correlated with BFFS,DMFS,and OS(all P=0.000),and the Gleason score with DMFS(P=0.000) and OS(P=0.001).Conclusions T3 a prostate cancer with unfavorable prognostic factors presents not so optimistic outcome.Hormone therapy should be applied to prolong the biochemical progression-free or metastasis-free survival.The percentage of positive biopsy cores and the Gleason score are significant prognostic factors.展开更多

These modalities include the use of intense pulsed light(...Demand for non-invasive techniques to treat oculofacial pathology has allowed for the growth and development of several new laser and light therapy modalities. These modalities include the use of intense pulsed light(IPL) and photodynamic therapy(PDT), light-emitting diode devices, as well as ablative and non-ablative lasers. Therapeutic applications in the periorbital area may involve the treatment of vascular lesions, telangiectasias, dyspigmentation, photodamage, hypertrichosis, rhytids, and scars. Laser and light-based technology offers patients treatment options that range from conservative to aggressive, allowing for choices between subtle results with little downtime or dramatic results with longer downtime. Advantages of laser treatments, as compared to traditional medical and surgical treatments, include a longer lasting effect than some of the conservative therapies and the ability to serve as a happy medium between non-invasive topical medicine and invasive surgical techniques. For patients seekingnon-invasive alternatives, these modalities confer a major advantage over incisional surgery. Understanding appropriate usage, side effects, and outcomes is before treating functional and cosmetic issues. Here we present a review of current treatment modalities, their use, side effects, and outcomes.展开更多
文摘目的观察Thera-Band渐进抗阻训练对发育性髋关节发育不良术后患儿下肢功能的疗效。方法 2014年1月—2015年6月在上海交通大学医学院附属新华医院康复医学科就诊的发育性髋关节发育不良患儿中,选择29例术后6周的患儿,按就诊顺序分为两组:观察组14例(20髋)接受包括Thera-Band渐进抗阻训练在内的康复治疗;对照组15例(20髋)接受常规康复治疗。患儿入组后分别于治疗前、治疗1个月和治疗3个月后评估患儿屈髋肌、伸髋肌、髋外展肌、伸膝肌肌力及髋关节活动度;于治疗前、治疗3个月后,使用表面肌电图仪评估患儿股直肌、臀大肌和臀中肌表面肌电信号均方根值(root mean square,RMS)的变化。结果观察组与对照组患儿髋关节活动度、肌力(屈髋肌、伸髋肌、髋外展肌和伸膝肌)、RMS值(股直肌、臀大肌和臀中肌)治疗前差异无统计学意义(P>0.05);治疗1个月、3个月后,患儿髋关节活动度、肌力均显著高于治疗前(P<0.01)。在各观察时间点,两组间髋关节活动度差异无统计学意义(P>0.05);治疗1个月后,伸髋肌和髋外展肌和伸膝肌肌力观察组高于对照组(P<0.05);治疗3个月后,伸髋肌和髋外展肌肌力观察组显著高于对照组(P<0.01),屈髋肌和伸膝肌肌力观察组高于对照组(P<0.05);治疗3个月后,两组各肌肉RMS值均显著高于治疗前(P<0.01),观察组股直肌平均RMS值高于对照组(P<0.05),观察组臀大肌和臀中肌平均RMS值显著高于对照组(P<0.01)。结论 Thera-Band渐进抗阻训练有助于改善发育性髋关节发育不良术后患儿下肢功能。
