The technique is intended to solve the update problem of soil mechanical properties during spudcan penetration in normally consolidated clay soil. In the CEL model, the normal method of assigning an increasing shear strength profile with depth(NA) is defective due to its Eulerian framework. In this paper, a new technique is proposed to update soil material properties by introducing thermo-mechanical coupled analysis(TMCA) to the CEL models. During establishment of the CEL models, the optimal penetration velocity and minimum mesh size are determined through parametric studies. Reasonability and accuracy are then verified through comparison of the preliminary results with the soil flow configuration and penetration resistance(Fv) of a centrifuge test, and the results of the proposed method are compared with those of the remeshing and interpolation technique with small strain(RITSS) method. To achieve a CEL model with satisfactory accuracy, the NA and TMCA methods implemented in the CEL models and the RITSS method are first adopted in weightless soil. Comparison of the findings with those obtained in previous studies shows that the TMCA method can update material properties and predict Fv. The TMCA method is then applied to soils with self-weight and different shear strength profiles. Results show that the proposed method is capable of accurately modeling the large deformation problem of spudcan penetration in non-homogeneous clay.展开更多

A coupled thermo-mechanical analysis of the three primary mirror assemblies was made with finite element method. The results show that the SiC assembly is the best of all schemes in terms of their combination properties due to its elimination of the thermal expansion mismatch between the materials. The analytical results on the cryogenic property of the SiC primary mirror assembly show a higher surface finish of the SiC mirror even under the cryogenic condition.展开更多

That is, the two schemes support common wave solutions with group velocity pointed into the computation domain. The key to eliminate local coupling instability is to avoid such wave solutions. For lumped-mass finite element simulation of P-SV wave motion in a 2D waveguide, an approach for stable implementation of high order multi-transmitting formula is provided. With a uniform rectangular mesh, it is proven and validated that high-freqaency local coupling instability can be eliminated by setting the ratio of the element size equal to or greater than x/2 times the ratio of the P wave velocity to the S wave velocity. These results can be valuable for dealing instability problems induced by other absorbing boundary conditions.展开更多

Firstly, a spatial beam element model for finite element analysis is established. Then, the differential equation of motion of beam element is derived based on finite element method. The kinematic constraints of parallel manipulator with rigid and flexible links are obtained by analyzing the motive parameters of moving platform and the relationships of movements of kinematic chains, and the overall kinetic equation of the parallel mechanism with rigid and flexible links is derived by assembling the differential equations of motion of components. On the basis of abovementioned analyses, the dynamic mechanical analysis of the spatial parallel manipulator with rigid and flexible links is conducted. After obtaining the method for force analysis and expressions for the calculation of dynamic stress of flexible components, the dynamic analysis and simulation of spatial parallel manipulator with rigid and flexible links is performed. The result shows that because of the elastic deformation of flexible components in the parallel mechanism with rigid and flexible links, the force on each component in the mechanism fluctuates sharply, and the change of normal stress at the root of drive components is also remarkable. This study provides references for further studies on the dynamic characteristics of parallel mechanisms with rigid and flexible links and for the optimization of the design of the mechanism.展开更多

The general principles of protein structure that underlie this process remain unknown. Statistical coupling analysis (SCA) is a statistical technique that uses evolutionary data of a protein family to measure correlation between distant functional sites and suggests allosteric communication. In proteins, very distant and small interactions between collections of amino acids provide the communication which can be important for signaling process. In this paper, we present the SCA of protein alignment of the esterase family (pfam ID: PF00756) containing the sequence of antigen 85C secreted by Mycobacterium tuberculosis to identify a subset of interacting residues. Clustering analysis of the pairwise correlation highlighted seven important residue positions in the esterase family alignments. These resi-dues were then mapped on the crystal structure of antigen 85C (PDB ID: 1DQZ). The mapping revealed corre-lation between 3 distant residues (Asp38, Leu123 and Met125) and suggests allosteric communication between them. This information can be used for a new drug against this fatal disease.展开更多

Strong electromagnetic forces cause the structures to vibrate while the motion in turn changes the distribution of the electromagnetic field. To ensure the Tokamak devices operating in a designed state, numerical analysis on the coupling vibration is of great importance. This paper introduces two numerical methods for the magneto-mechanical coupling problems. The coupling term of velocity and magnetic flux density is manipulated in both Eulerian and Lagrangian description, which brings much simplification in numerical implementation. Corresponding numerical codes have been developed and applied to the dynamic simulation of a test module in J-TEXT and the vacuum vessel of HL-2M during plasma disruptions. The results reveal the evident influence of the magnetic stiffness and magnetic damping effects on the vibration behavior of the in-vessel structures. Finally, to deal with the halo current injection problem, a numerical scheme is described and validated which can simulate the distribution of the halo current without complicated manipulations.展开更多

Experiments have successfully demonstrated that the LCE based bimorphs can be effective soft robots once integrated with soft sensors and thermal actuators. Here, we present an analytical transient thermo-mechanical model for a bimorph structure based soft robot, which consists of a strip of LCE and a thermal inert polymer actuated by an ultra-thin stretchable open-mesh shaped heater to mimic the unique locomotion behaviors of an inchworm. The coupled mechanical and thermal analysis based on the thermo-mechanical theory is carried out to underpin the transient bending behavior, and a systematic understanding is therefore achieved. The key analytical results reveal that the thickness and the modulus ratio of the LCE and the inert polymer layer dominate the transient bending deformation. The analytical results will not only render fundamental understanding of the actuation of bimorph structures, but also facilitate the rational design of soft robotics.展开更多

The results show that longitudinal vibration band gaps and acoustic band gaps can coexist in the fluid-filled periodic pipe. The formation of the band gap mechanism is further analyzed. Results show that the proposed method is capable of accurately modeling the large deformation problem of spudcan penetration in non-homogeneous clay.
文摘Based on the principle that the thermal expansion coefficient of the support structure should match that of the mirror, three schemes of primary mirror assembly were designed. Of them, the first is fused silica mirror plus 4J32 flexible support plus ZTC4 support back plate, the second K9 mirror plus 4J45 flexible support plus ZTC4 support back plate, and the third SiC mirror plus SiC rigid support back plate. A coupled thermo-mechanical analysis of the three primary mirror assemblies was made with finite element method. The results show that the SiC assembly is the best of all schemes in terms of their combination properties due to its elimination of the thermal expansion mismatch between the materials. The analytical results on the cryogenic property of the SiC primary mirror assembly show a higher surface finish of the SiC mirror even under the cryogenic condition.

文摘The deep rock mass within coal mines situated in a challenging environment are characterized by high ground stress, high geotemperature, high osmotic water pressure, and dynamic disturbances from mechanical excavation. To investigate the impact of this complex mechanical environment on the dynamic characteristics of roof sandstone in self-formed roadways without coal pillars, standard specimens of deep sandstone from the 2611 upper tunnel working face of the Yongmei Company within the Henan Coal Chemical Industry Group in Henan,China were prepared, and an orthogonal test was designed.Using a self-developed geotechnical dynamic impact mechanics test system, triaxial dynamic impact tests under thermal-hydraulicmechanical coupling conditions were conducted on deep sandstone. The results indicate that under high confining pressure, deep sandstone exhibits pronounced brittle failure at low temperatures, with peak strength gradually decreasing as temperature and osmotic water pressure increase.Conversely, under low confining pressure and low temperature, the brittleness of deep sandstone weakens gradually, while ductility increases. Moreover, sandstone demonstrates higher peak strength at low temperatures under high axial pressure conditions, lower peak strength at high temperatures, and greater strain under low axial pressure and high osmotic water pressure.Increases in impact air pressure and osmotic water pressure have proportionally greater effects on peak stress and peak strain.Approximately 50%of the input strain energy is utilized as effective energy driving the sandstone fracture process.Polar analysis identifies the optimal combination of factors affecting the peak stress and peak strain of sandstone.Under the coupling effect, intergranular and transgranular fractures occur within the sandstone.SEM images illustrate that the damage forms range from minor damage with multiple fissures to extensive fractures and severe fragmentation. This study elucidates the varied dynamic impact mechanical properties of deep sandstones under thermal-hydraulic-mechanical coupling, along with multifactor analysis methods and their optimal factor combinations.
文摘This paper presents an analysis result of three-dimensional meshing of crown gear coupling (CGC) surfaces of crown gear and internal gear are established. The equation of internal gear surface is given. The equation of conjugate surface of crown gear is solved according to the principle of gearing, and that of non-conjugate crown gear is derived with crown curve of a circular arc. The meshing state of conjugate and non-conjugate surfaces is analyzed through computation of contact lines and points. It is concluded that the meshing of conjugate CGC is line-contact, there are several pairs of teeth engage simultaneously, and non-conjugate CGC has point-contact condition of meshing and only 2 pairs of teeth engage in theory.

文摘Local coupling instability will occur when the numerical scheme of absorbing boundary condition and that of the field wave equation allow energies to spontaneously enter into the computational domain. These results can be valuable for dealing instability problems induced by other absorbing boundary conditions.

文摘The dynamics of spatial parallel manipulator with rigid and flexible links is explored. This study provides references for further studies on the dynamic characteristics of parallel mechanisms with rigid and flexible links and for the optimization of the design of the mechanism.

文摘A barrier-free wheelchair robot with a mechanism coupled by wheel and track is presen- ted in this paper. Using the wheelchair, the lower limb disabled persons could be more relaxed to take part in outdoor activities whether on flat ground or stairs and obstacles in the city. The wheel- track coupling mechanism is designed and the stability of the bodywork of the wheelchair robot on the stairs is analyzed. In order to obtain the stability of wheelchair robot when it climbs obstacles, centroid projection method is applied to analyze the static stability, stability margin is proposed to provide the stability under some dynamic forces, and the push rod rotation angle in terms of the guaranteed stability margin is given. Finally, the dynamic model of the wheelchair robot based on Lagrange equation is established, which can be a theoretical foundation for the wheelchair control system design.
文摘A fundamental goal in cellular signaling is to understand allosteric communication, the process by which sig-nals originating at one site in a protein propagate reliably to affect distant functional sites. This information can be used for a new drug against this fatal disease.

文摘In the core of a molten salt fast reactor(MSFR),heavy metal fuel and fission products can be dissolved in a molten fluoride salt to form a eutectic mixture that acts as both fuel and coolant.Fission energy is released from the fuel salt and transferred to the second loop by fuel salt circulation. Therefore, the MSFR is characterized by strong interaction between the neutronics and the thermal hydraulics. Moreover, recirculation flow occurs, and nuclear heat is accumulated near the fertile blanket, which significantly affects both the flow and the temperature fields in the core.In this work,to further optimize the conceptual geometric design of the MSFR,three geometries of the core and fertile blanket are proposed, and the thermal-hydraulic characteristics, including the three-dimensional flow and temperature fields of the fuel and fertile salts, are simulated and analyzed using a coupling scheme between the open source codes OpenMC and OpenFOAM.The numerical results indicate that a flatter core temperature distribution can be obtained and the hot spot and flow stagnation zones that appear in the upper and lower parts of the core center near the reflector can be eliminated by curving both the top and bottom walls of the core. Moreover, eight cooling loops with a total flow rate of0.0555 m3 s-1 ensur an acceptable temperature distribusure an acceptable temperature distribution in the fertile blanket.

文摘Magneto-mechanical coupling vibration arises in the in-vessel components of Tokamak devices especially during the plasma disruption. Finally, to deal with the halo current injection problem, a numerical scheme is described and validated which can simulate the distribution of the halo current without complicated manipulations.

文摘Thermally responsive liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) hold great promise in applications of soft robots and actuators because of the induced size and shape change with temperature. The analytical results will not only render fundamental understanding of the actuation of bimorph structures, but also facilitate the rational design of soft robotics.

文摘A periodic pipe system composed of steel pipes and rubber hoses with the same inner radius is designed based on the theory of phononic crystals. Using the transfer matrix method, the band structure of the periodic pipe is calculated considering the structural-acoustic coupling. The results show that longitudinal vibration band gaps and acoustic band gaps can coexist in the fluid-filled periodic pipe. The formation of the band gap mechanism is further analyzed. The band gaps are validated by the sound transmission loss and vibration-frequency response functions calculated using the finite element method. The effect of the damp on the band gap is analyzed by calculating the complex band structure. The periodic pipe system can be used not only in the field of vibration reduction but also for noise elimination.
