An accurate estimation of system be-haviour, including load flow studies, protection, and safe control of the system calls for an accurate equiva-lent circuit parameters of all system components such as generators, transformers, etc. This paper presents a methodology to estimate the equivalent circuit parameters of the Three Winding Transformer (TWT) using Bacterial Foraging Algorithm (BFA). The estimation procedure based on load test data at one particular op-erating point namely supply voltage, load currents, input power. The performance characteristics, such as efficiency and voltage regulation are considered along with the name plate data in order to minimize the er-ror between the estimated and measured data. The estimation procedure is demonstrated with a sample three winding transformer and the results are compared against the directly measured performance of TWT and genetic algorithm optimization results. The simulation results show the ability of the proposed technique to capture the true values of the machine parameters and the superiority of the results obtained using the bacte-rial foraging algorithm.展开更多

Low speed wind condition (less than 5 m/s) is taken in considerati...This paper gives performance analysis of a three phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) connected to a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT). Low speed wind condition (less than 5 m/s) is taken in consideration and the entire simulation is carried in Matlab/Simulink environment. The rated power for the generator is fixed at 1.5 KW and number of pole at 20. It is observed under low wind speed of6 m/s, a turbine having approximately1 mof radius and2.6 mof height develops 150 Nm mechanical torque that can generate power up to 1.5 KW. The generator is designed using modeling tool and is fabricated. The fabricated generator is tested in the laboratory with the simulation result for the error analysis. The range of error is about 5%-27% for the same output power value. The limitations and possible causes for error are presented and discussed.展开更多
The study is conducted to estimate the resistance of three soils (EL Hartha clay loam, Barjisiya sandy loam and the soil near the sand dunes in Sheikh sa'ad area sandy soil) to wind erosion, it is also aimed at g...The study is conducted to estimate the resistance of three soils (EL Hartha clay loam, Barjisiya sandy loam and the soil near the sand dunes in Sheikh sa'ad area sandy soil) to wind erosion, it is also aimed at getting full acquaintance of the relationship between the soil loss and the physical and chemical features of soil. In addition to the experiment of some soil stabilizers, polyacrylamide (PAM) concentration of 0.2 % and crude oil in concentration of 1 % in order to reduce or prevent wind erosion. The study shows that the amendment increased the dry soil aggregate >1 mm, mean weight diameter and soil moisture. It is clear that polyacrylamide had greater effect than that of crude oil, besides the great effectiveness of these amendments in decreasing bulk density and relations of soil loss.展开更多
