However, its drawbacks of limited heat transfer area, complex internal structure, and large number of control parameters hinder its widespread industrial applications. To solve these challenges, in this work a novel sleeve-like concentric heat-integrated separation column, namely temperature-controlled phase change column(TCPC), was developed to separate liquid mixtures in a more effective and energy-saving way with reflux section being moved and trays being replaced with spiral corrugation blades. The comprehensive performances of TCPC in ethanol-water system was firstly evaluated by experiments. The results showed that TCPC performs well in ethanol-water separation due to the internal spiral corrugation significantly reducing the vapor-liquid contact in separation section. Meanwhile, compared to the concentric HIDi C, TCPC has a higher total heat transfer coefficient due to the larger heat transfer area. Computational fluid dynamics simulation reveals the internal design of TCPC inducing secondary vortices of the vapor, enhancing condensation heat transfer and separation efficiency. Further, increasing the mass flow rate within a certain range would enhance the comprehensive performance factor and lead to more effective separation.展开更多

The most common hurdles faced during spinal cord injury are failure of axonal regrowth and reconnection to target sites. These also tend to be the most challenging issues in spinal cord injury. As spinal cord injury progresses to the chronic phase, lost motor and sensory functions are not recovered. Several reasons may be attributed to the failure of recovery from chronic spinal cord injury. These include factors that inhibit axonal growth such as activated astrocytes, chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan, myelin-associated proteins, inflammatory microglia, and fibroblasts that accumulate at lesion sites. Skeletal muscle atrophy due to denervation is another chronic and detrimental spinal cord injury–specific condition. Although several intervention strategies based on multiple outlooks have been attempted for treating spinal cord injury, few approaches have been successful. To treat chronic spinal cord injury, neural cells or tissue substitutes may need to be supplied in the cavity area to enable possible axonal growth. Additionally, stimulating axonal growth activity by extrinsic factors is extremely important and essential for maintaining the remaining host neurons and transplanted neurons. This review focuses on pharmacotherapeutic approaches using small compounds and proteins to enable axonal growth in chronic spinal cord injury. This review presents some of these candidates that have shown promising outcomes in basic research(in vivo animal studies) and clinical trials: AA-NgR(310)ecto-Fc(AXER-204), fasudil, phosphatase and tensin homolog protein antagonist peptide 4, chondroitinase ABC, intracellular sigma peptide,(-)-epigallocatechin gallate, matrine, acteoside, pyrvate kinase M2, diosgenin, granulocyte-colony stimulating factor, and fampridine-sustained release. Although the current situation suggests that drug-based therapies to recover function in chronic spinal cord injury are limited, potential candidates have been identified through basic research, and these candidates may be subjects of clinical studies in the future. Moreover, cocktail therapy comprising drugs with varied underlying mechanisms may be effective in treating the refractory status of chronic spinal cord injury.展开更多

Pulsed disc and doughnut solvent extraction columns (PDDC) have been used for a range of important applications such as ura- nium extraction and nuclear fuel recycling. Although the dispersed phase holdup in a PDDC has been presented by some researchers, there is still the need to develop a robust correlation that can predict the experimental dispersed phase holdup over a range of operating conditions including the effects of mass transfer direction. In this study, dis- persed phase holdup data from different literature sources for a PDDC were used to refit constants for the correlation presented by Kumar and Hartland lind. Eng. Chem. Res.,27 (1988),131-138] which did not consider the effect of col- umn geometry. In order to incorporate the characteristic length of the PDDC (i.e. the plate spacing), the unified cor- relation for holdup proposed by Kumar and Hartland based on data from eight different types of columns [Ind. Eng. Chem. Res.,34 (1995) 3925-3940] was refitted to the PDDC data. New constants have been presented for each hold- up correlation for a PDDC based on regression analysis using published holdup data from PDDCs that cover a range of onerating conditions and nhwical nronerties and consider the direction of mass transfer.展开更多

The influence of operation conditions on the holdup of the dispersed phase was investigated. According to the analysis of the experimental data, there was a turning point on the curve of ln(Vs) versus ln(l-Φ) under certain pulse intensity. When the holdup is higher than the value at the turning point, the two-phase flow characteristics can be described with the modified Pratt's equation, otherwise a new relation in the form ofΦ=1/2.75uk(uc + 4ud) may be used, which is proposed by this study.展开更多

The solidification process and microsegregation in the mushy zone are analysed in detail. It is shown that under the isothermal condition solidification will stop after the formation of the mushy zone, but dendritic coarsening will progress continuously, which results in the decrease of the total interface area. Under the constant cooling condition the mushy zone will solidify and coarsen simultaneously. For the constant cooling solidification, microsegregation predicted by a modified Brody- Flemings model is compared with the simulation results. It is found that the Fourier number which characterizes microsegregation is different for regions with different microstructures. Dendritic coarsening and the larger area of interface should account for the enhanced Fourier number in the region with well developed second dendritic arms.展开更多

The influence of different modifiers, injection solvents, temperature, and pressure, and density of the fluid, respectively, on the separation behaviour has been studied. Among 11 different 2 stationary phases the Chiral cel OD-H column showed by far the best separation properties. The influence of different modifiers, injection solvents, temperature, and pressure, and density of the fluid, respectively, on the separation behaviour has been studied. It was found that the separation behaviour strongly depends on the type of modifier and the modifier content. Temperature and pressure are of less influence.
文摘The influence of different alcohol modifiers in mobile phase on the chiral separation of 4-methoxyl flavanone, 5-methoxyl flavanone and 6-methoxyl flavanone on cellulose tris (3, 5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) (CDMPC) column was studied and the chiral recognition mechanism was discussed. Using hexane-tert-butanol (1.31 mol L-1) as the mobile phase, those three methoxyl flavanones were excellently separated on CDMPC chiral column.

文摘Overall dispersed side volumetric mass transfer coefficients for protein and amino acids were measured in continuous countercurrent PEG4000/KHP aqueous two-phase systems in a 57mm I.D. packed extraction column. A model for overall dispersed side volumetric mass transfer coefficients was derived by describing the motion of the drops based upon Navier-Stokes equation combined with the relationship between mass transfer coefficients and the drop velocity. The model provides good predictions and can be successfully used in aqueous two-phase extraction. The average relative deviation between calculated values and experimental data ranges from 8% to 14%.
文摘Taking into account the effect of velocity profiles of the continuous phase in interstices of drops, dragcoefficient and relative motion correlations for dispersed liquid-liquid two-phase flow in absence of mass transferwere developed in terms of the pseudo-fluid concept based on the simple similarity criteria and the mixtureviscosity model suggested by Ishii and Zuber. The present model was compared with the experimental data fromfive(different sources and also with seven other pertinent correlations available in literature.Fairly goodpredictions were obtained under wide ranges of the dispersed phase holdup and Reynolds number. The validity ofthe present model has also been checked against the experimental slip velocity data and holdup data obtained ina Karr reciprocating plate extraction column by the author of the present paper and satisfactory agreement isachieved、The results show that the equations of the motion of a multi-droplet system can be formulated in aform identical with those for a single
文摘An easy-to-make ozone generator which can be made with readily available materials is proposed. Concentration of the ozone prepared with this generator could reach that of ozone in equilibrium with oxygen. Cured with the ozone thus prepared, GC capillary columns with immobilized SE-54 phase and excellent chromatographic performance were successfully prepared.

文摘The Mn-based oxide cathode with enriched crystal phase structure and component diversity can provide the excellent chemistry structure for Na-ion batteries.Nevertheless, the broad application prospect is obstructed by the sluggish Na^(+)kinetics and the phase transitions upon cycling.Herein,we establish the thermodynamically stable phase diagram of various Mn-based oxide composites precisely controlled by sodium content tailoring strategy coupling with co-doping and solid-state reaction. The chemical environment of the P2/P'3 and P2/P3 biphasic composites indicate that the charge compensation mechanism stems from the cooperative contribution of anions and cations.Benefiting from the no phase transition to scavenge the structure strain,P2/P'3 electrode can deliver long cycling stability(capacity retention of 73.8%after 1000 cycles at 10 C)and outstanding rate properties(the discharge capacity of 84.08 mA h g^(-1)at 20 C)than P2/P3 electrode.Furthermore, the DFT calculation demonstrates that the introducing novel P'3 phase can significantly regulate the Na^(+)reaction dynamics and modify the local electron configuration of Mn.The effective phase engineering can provide a reference for designing other high-performance electrode materials for Na-ion batteries.
文摘Hydrodynamics characterization in terms offlow regime behavior is a crucial task to enhance the design of bubble column reactors and scaling up related methodologies. This review presents recent studies on the typicalflow regimes established in bubble columns. Some effort is also provided to introduce relevant definitions pertaining to thisfield, namely, that of“void fraction”and related(local,chordal,cross-sectional and volumetric)variants.Experimental studies involving different parameters that affect design and operating conditions are also discussed in detail. In the second part of the review, the attention is shifted to cases with internals of various types(perfo-rated plates, baffles, vibrating helical springs, mixers, and heat exchanger tubes)immersed in the bubble columns. It is shown that the presence of these elements has a limited influence on the global column hydrodynamics. However, they can make the homogeneousflow regime more stable in terms of transition gas velocity and transi-tion holdup value. The last section is used to highlight gaps which have not beenfilled yet and future directions of investigation.
