Conical Sonic-Supersonic Solutions for the 3-D Steady Full Euler Equations

This paper concerns the sonic-supersonic structures of the transonic crossflow generated by the steady supersonic flow past an infinite cone of arbitrary cross section.Under the conical assumption,the three-dimensional(3-D)steady Euler equations can be projected onto the unit sphere and the state of fluid can be characterized by the polar and azimuthal angles.Given a segment smooth curve as a conical-sonic line in the polar-azimuthal angle plane,we construct a classical conical-supersonic solution near the curve under some reasonable assumptions.To overcome the difficulty caused by the parabolic degeneracy,we apply the characteristic decomposition technique to transform the Euler equations into a new degenerate hyperbolic system in a partial hodograph plane.The singular terms are isolated from the highly nonlinear complicated system and then can be handled successfully.We establish a smooth local solution to the new system in a suitable weighted metric space and then express the solution in terms of the original variables. 展开更多

An improved algorithm for computing multiphase flows is presented in which the multimaterial Moment-of-Fluid(MOF)algorithm for multiphase flows,initially described by Li et al.(2015),is enhanced addressing existing MOF difficulties in computing solutions to problems in which surface tension forces are crucial for understanding salient flow mechanisms.The Continuous MOF(CMOF)method is motivated in this article.The CMOF reconstruction method inherently removes the"checkerboard instability"that persists when using the MOF method on surface tension driven multiphase(multimaterial)flows.The CMOF reconstruction algorithm is accelerated by coupling the CMOF method to the level set method and coupling the CMOF method to a decision tree machine learning(ML)algorithm.Multiphase flow examples are shown in the two-dimensional(2D),three-dimensional(3D)axisymmetric"RZ",and 3D coordinate systems.Examples include two material and three material multiphase flows:bubble formation,the impingement of a liquid jet on a gas bubble in a cryogenic fuel tank,freezing,and liquid lens dynamics. 展开更多

To deal w ith this problem,a novel 3-D In ISAR imaging method is proposed in this paper.First,the high-precision gradient adaptive algorithm w as adopted to reconstruct the echoes in range dimension. Then the method of minimizing the entropy of the average range profile w as applied to estimate the parameters w hich are used to compensate translation components of the received echoes. Besides,the phase adjustment and image coregistration of the sparse echoes w ere achieved at the same time through the approach of the joint phase autofocus. Finally,the 3-D geometry coordinates of the ship target w ith 2-D sparsity w ere reconstructed by combining the range measurement and interferometric processing of the ISAR images. Simulation experiments w ere carried out to verify the practicability and effectiveness of the algorithm in the case that the received echoes are in 2-D sparsity. 展开更多

According to the special requirements on rapier loom's weft-insertion system for weaving three-dimensional( 3-D) fabric,a new rapier electronic weft-insertion system is presented. The design principle for 3-D loom's weft insertion system is introduced,including the design of the motion law of electronic weft-insertion system,the driving system's hardware configure,and its software's controlling principle. The weft insertion system is computer-controlled and servocylinder driven so as to control the rapier's movement to insert the weft into the multi-shed while 3-D weaving. This method greatly simplifies the weft-insertion system,achieves weft-insertion with variable travel,and improves the flexibility and reliability. In-situ three-dimensional visualization of dynamic tension deformation in ferrite stainless steels

An improved three-dimensional (3-D) experimental visualization methodology is presented tor evaluating the fracture mechanisms of ferritic stainless steels by in-situ tensile testing with an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM). The samples were machined with a radial notched shape and a sloped surface. Both planar surface deformation and sloping surface deformation-induced microvoids were observed during dynamic tension experiments, where a greater amount of information could be obtained from the sloping surface. The results showed that microvoids formed at the grain boundaries of highly elongated large grains. The microvoids nucleated in the severely deformed regions grew nearly parallel to the tensile axis, predominantly along the grain boundaries. The microvoids nucleated at the interface of particles and the matrix did not propagate due to the high plasticity of the matrix. The large microvoids propagated and showed a zigzag shape along the grain boundaries,seemingly a consequence of the fracture of the slip bands caused by dislocation pile-ups. The final failure took place due to the reduction of the load-beating area. 展开更多

Western Yunnan is a region with intensive tectonic activity and serious earthquake risk. It is of significant importance to study three dimensional crustal structure of this region to understand the tectonic setting and disaster mechanism. Densification and digitalization of seismic networks in this region provides an opportunity to study the velocity structure with bulletin data. In this study, we collect P-wave data of 10 403 regional earthquakes recorded by 79 seismic stations from January 2008 to December 2010. In addition to first arrivals data (Pg with epieentral distance less than 200 km and Pn), the Pg (or P) data with epicentral distance more than 200 km are also considered as later direct arrivals in the tomographic inversion. We also compare the quantity and the quality of the seismic data before 2010 and after 2010. The test results show that adding the follow-up Pg phase can effectively improve the inversion ability of crustal imaging, and quantity and the data quality are significantly improved since 2010. The tomographie results show that: (1) The Honghe fault zone, which is the major fault systems in this region, may cut through the entire crust, and the velocity contrasts between two sides at lower crust beneath the Honghe fault are estimated at higher than 10%, while the velocity difference below Nujiang fault zone extends only in the upper crust; (2) Most of the earthquakes in the region occurred at the interface of high-velocity media and low-velocity media, i.e., the areas with high velocity gradient, which has been validated in other areas. 展开更多

3D-QSAR and Docking Studies of Pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine Derivatives as Weel Inhibitors

In order to investigate the inhibiting mechanism and obtain some helpful information for designing functional inhibitors against Wee1, three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) and docking studies have been performed on 45 pyrido[2,3-d] pyrimidine derivatives acting as Wee1 inhibitors. Two optimal 3D-QSAR models with significant statistical quality and satisfactory predictive ability were established, including the CoMFA model (q2=0.707, R2=0.964) and CoMSIA model (q2=0.645, R2=0.972). The external validation indicated that both CoMFA and CoMSIA models were quite robust and had high predictive power with the predictive correlation coefficient values of 0.707 and 0.794, essen- 2 values of 0.792 and 0.826, the leave-one-out r2m(LOO) values of 0.781 and tim parameter rm2 0.809, r2( all) values of 0.787 and 0.810, respectively. Moreover, the appropriate binding orientations and conformations of these compounds interacting with Wee1 were revealed by the docking studies. Based on the CoMFA and CoMSIA contour maps and docking analyses, several key structural requirements of these compounds responsible for inhibitory activity were identified as follows: simultaneously introducing high electropositive groups to the sub- stituents R1 and R5 may increase the activity, the substituent R2 should be smaller bulky and higher electronegative, moderate-size and strong electron-withdrawing groups for the substituent R3 is advantageous to the activity, but the substituent X should be medium-size and hydrophilic. These theoretical results help to understand the action mechanism and design novel potential Wee1 inhibitors. 展开更多

Electrical contact materials are generally Ag-or Cu-based composites and play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of electrical equipments and electronic instruments.The MAX(M is an early transition metal,A is an element from III or IV main groups,and X is carbon or/and nitrogen)phase ceramics display a unique combination of properties and may serve as an ideal reinforcement phase for electrical contact materials.The biological materials evolved in nature generally exhibit three-dimensional(3D)interpenetrating-phase architectures,which may offer useful inspiration for the architectural design of electrical contact materials.Here,a series of bi-continuous Ag-Ti_(3)SiC_(2) MAX phase composites with high ceramic contents exceeding 50 vol.%and having micron-and ultrafine-scaled 3D interpenetrating-phase architectures,wherein both constituents were continuous and mutually interspersed,were exploited by pressureless infiltration of Ag melt into partially sintered Ti_(3)SiC_(2) scaffolds.The mechanical and electrical properties as well as the friction and wear performance of the composites were investigated and revealed to be closely dependent on the ceramic contents and characteristic structural dimensions.The composites exhibited a good combination of properties with high hardness over 2.3 GPa,high flexural strength exceeding 530 MPa,decent fracture toughness over 10 MPa·m^(1/2),and good wear resistance with low wear rate at an order of 10^(-5)mm^(3)/(N·m),which were much superior compared to the counterparts made by powder metallurgy methods.In particular,the hardness,electrical conductivity,strength,and fracture toughness of the composites demonstrated a simultaneous improvement as the structure was refined from micron-to ultrafine-scales at equivalent ceramic contents.The good combination of properties along with the facile processing route makes the Ag-Ti_(3)SiC_(2)3D interpenetrating-phase composites appealing for electrical contact applications. 展开更多

Two-dimensional (2D) element images obtained from Ini are encoded using a double random phase encryption (DRPE) algorithm. Only part of the phase information is used in the proposed method rather than using all of the amplitude and phase information, which can make the final data sparse and beneficial to data compression, storage, and transmission. Experimental results verified the method and successfully proved the developed 3D authentication process using a nonlinear cross correlation method. 展开更多

To avoid the complicated motion compensation in interferometric inverse synthetic aperture(InISAR)and achieve realtime three-dimensional(3 D)imaging,a novel approach for 3 D imaging of the target only using a single echo is presented.This method is based on an isolated scatterer model assumption,thus the scatterers in the beam can be extracted individually.The radial range of each scatterer is estimated by the maximal likelihood estimation.Then,the horizontal and vertical wave path difference is derived by using the phase comparison technology for each scatterer,respectively.Finally,by utilizing the relationship among the 3 D coordinates,the radial range,the horizontal and vertical wave path difference,the 3 D image of the target can be reconstructed.The reconstructed image is free from the limitation in InISAR that the image plane depends on the target's own motions and on its relative position with respect to the radar.Furthermore,a phase ambiguity resolution method is adopted to ensure the success of the 3 D imaging when phase ambiguity occurs.It can be noted that the proposed phase ambiguity resolution method only uses one antenna pair and does not require a priori knowledge,whereas the existing phase ambiguity methods may require two or more antenna pairs or a priori knowledge for phase unwarping.To evaluate the performance of the proposed method,the theoretical analyses on estimation accuracy are presented and the simulations in various scenarios are also carried out. 展开更多

This paper presents the cooperative strategies for salvo attack of multiple missiles based on the classical proportional navigation(PN) algorithm.The three-dimensional(3-D) guidance laws are developed in a quite simple formulation that consists of a PN component for target capture and a coordination component for simultaneous arrival.The centralized algorithms come into effect when the global information of time-to-go estimation is obtained, whereas the decentralized algorithms have better performance when each missile can only collect information from neighbors.Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed coordination algorithms are feasible to perform the cooperative engagement of multiple missiles against both stationary and maneuvering targets.The effectiveness of the 3-D guidance laws is also discussed. 展开更多

Considering the relationship between the observation geometry and the size of illuminated scenario, a 3-D Range Migration Algorithm with Elevation Digital Spotlighting (RMA-EDS) is proposed. With this algorithm 3-D images of the area of interest can be directly and accurately reconstructed in the 3-D space avoiding the complex operations of 3-D geometric correction. In this paper, a 3-D, two-phase numerical model of a vent tube on the connection of the tailrace tunnel and the diversion tunnel, is developed based on the FLUENT with the volume of fluid(VOF) algorithm to investigate the transient air-water flow patterns and the complex hydraulic phenomena in the vent tube of the tailrace system. A 1-D and 3-D unidirectional adjacent coupling(1-D-3-D-UAC) approach with a linear interpolation method is adopted to adjust the timesteps between the 1-D model and the 3-D model on the tunnel inlet and outlet boundaries through the user defined function(UDF), to transmit the data from the 1-D model to the 3-D model. The model is verified by comparing the results obtained by using the 1-D model alone and from the experiments in literature. The transient flow processes under the full load rejection consist of four stages: the water level dropping stage, the air entering stage, the air pocket collapsing stage, and the air exiting stage. Detailed hydraulic phenomena in the air pocket collapsing process are also discussed. 展开更多

However, the traditional definition of the percentile calculation is designed only for 1-D anthropometric data estimates. The same approach cannot be applied directly to 3-D anthropometric statistics otherwise it could lead to misinterpretations. In this paper, the influence of alignment references on 3-D anthropometric statistics is analyzed mathematically, which shows that different alignment reference points (for example, landmarks) for translation alignment could result in different object shapes if 3-D anthropometric data are processed for percentile values based on coordinates and that dimension percentile calculations based on coordinate statistics are incompatible with those traditionally based on individual dimensions. 展开更多

An iterative approximate 3-D line searching algorithm based upon the geometric representation of lines (for non-maneuvering targets in space) in a 3-D space is derived. The convergency of the algorithm is proved. An analysis is performed of the theoretical detection performance of the algorithm. The statistical experiment results show high effectiveness and computational efficiency of the algorithm in the case of low SNR. The idea may be employed to satisfy the real-time processing requirement of an IR system. 展开更多

In Special Relativity, Einstein proved that space and time are relative and dependent and therefore must not be treated separately. Minkowski adopted four-dimensional space-time frames (4-d s-t frames), which indirectly revealed the dependency of space and time with the addition of a constraint for an event interval. We are not able to visualize 4-d s-t frames. Since space and time are inseparable, three-dimensional space-time frames (3-d s-t frames) can be constructed by embedding time into space to directly show the interdependency of space and time. Time contraction and length contraction can also be depicted graphically using 3-d s-t frames. We have much better understanding reality of space and time in 3-d s-t frames. This will lead to Contextual Reality for better understanding the universe. 展开更多
