English-Chinese Translation of Science and Technology Texts Based on the Differences Between Chinese and Western Modes of Thinking

As a tool for human communication,the use of language is affected by the way of thinking in cross-cultural communication.Due to the differences between Chinese and Western cultures,the way of thinking varies under the influence of such cultural differences.In the process of translation,the influence of the different thinking mode on translation activities cannot be ignored.At present,a lot of studies and researches have focused on the influence of Chinese and Western thinking mode on translation.However,it is still worthwhile to study what specific influence the difference between Chinese and Western thinking mode will exert on the translation process of science texts and what kind of measure should be taken to solve the negative influence brought by the differences when we are translating.This paper aims to discuss the influence of thinking differences between Chinese and Western countries on the process of English-Chinese translation of science and technology from the perspectives of long sentences,passive voice and nominalization,and how the translators should appropriately adjust their thinking pattern and use reasonable skills to eliminate the potential negative interference caused by the difference and achieve a better transformation between English and Chinese.

Word order and thinking mode of English and Chinese languages

This article aims to analyze the difference of word order between English and Chinese languages after making a constructive study of them and concludes that it is the reflection of different thinking characteristics of the two nationalities. The difference of history development, cultural tradition, social economy and geographic environment naturally produces the thinking mode with the national features. The different features certainly influence the language expression. It is because language is not only the main carrier of thinking but also the important expression form. So to well study the features of thinking mode is of great importance to translation, foreign language teaching and cross-cultural communication.

Contrastive Study of Thinking Modes between Chinese and English and Thinking Training of English Writing for Chinese Students

Based on the relationship between language and thinking, this paper is designed to inform that Chinese mode of thinking has great effect on college students＇ English writing from the perspective of contrastive study of thinking modes between Chinese and English. In addition, one specific measure about training English mode of thinking is put forward.

I-Ching,Chinese Thinking Mode And Chinese Language

I-Ching regards human-being as an integral part of nature and stresses the relative complimentary of the two opposing principles of nature, Yin and Yang. Therefore, under the influence of I-Ching, the Chinese thinking mode is different from the westerners'. An Efficient Three-Dimensional Coupled Normal Mode Model and Its Application to Internal Solitary Wave Problems

We present an efficient three-dimensional coupled-mode model based on the Fourier synthesis technique. In principle, this model is a one-way model, and hence provides satisfactory accuracy for problems where the forward scattering dominates. At the same time, this model provides an efficiency gain of an order of magnitude or more over two-way coupled-mode models. This model can be applied to three-dimensional range-dependent problems with a slowly varying bathymetry or internal waves. A numerical example of the latter is demonstrated in this work. Comparisons of both accuracy and efficiency between the present model and a benchmark model are also provided.

Establishment of a Kind of Three-dimensional Thunderstorm Cloud Electrification-Discharge Mode

[Objective] The research aimed to study the establishment of a kind of three-dimensional thunderstorm cloud electrification-discharge mode.[Method] Based on a kind of three-dimensional strong convective cloud mode,several parameterization schemes of electrification-discharge mechanism which were mature and had experimental basis were coupled into the strong convective cloud mode.The three-dimensional strong convective mode could simulate electrification-discharge process,and the three-dimensional thunderstorm cloud electrification-discharge mode was established.[Result] By numerical simulation method,a kind of three-dimensional thunderstorm cloud electrification-discharge mode was established.The mode not only could assess the relative importance of various kinds of electrification mechanisms under different environments,but also described formation of charge center and electrical field within the thunderstorm cloud,occurrence position,propagation process and influence on charge distribution of lightning.The most important thing was that it could quantitatively describe the complicated relative relationships between power,microphysics and electric process in the evolution process of thunderstorm cloud.[Conclusion] The research provided powerful foundation for further studying the lightning characteristics of different thunderstorm clouds,the relationships between lightning characteristics and power,microphysical process,and deeply discussing the early-warning forecasting technology of thunderbolt activity.

SEVERAL MODES OF THINKING IN TRANSLATION BETWEEN ENGLISH AND CHINESE

To explore the distinctions of mode of thinking reflected inEnglish and Chinese will greatly facilitate the translation between the twolanguages. English thinking on Phatic language is patternized while theChinese one is adjustable to situations; the logical sequence of noun phraseis linear in Chinese while it is non -linear in English; connections of ideasto certain phenomena are different in Chinese and Engl ish; the mode of thinkingon Informative language in Chinese is inductive but mostly deductive inEnglish; there are less logical connectives (or signals ) in Chinese than inEnglish. These differences in the mode of thinking require the appropriateemployment of inversion, addition, omission and other techniques intranslation.

Clinical Application of Surface Mode on Three-dimensional Ultrasonography: A Preliminary Study

To investigate the methodology and evaluate the clinical value of surface mode on three- dimensional ultrasonography (3DUS) in static anatomical structures, 62 patients with various diseases were studied. The equipment used here was Voluson 530D 3DUS imaging system and 3D volume trahsducer with frequency being 3. 0-5. 0 MHz. The 3DUS rendering method was surface mode. The results showed that: 1 ) Surface mode of 3DUS could demonstrate clearly the anatomical characteristics of the region-of-interest (ROI) and the inner wall of lesions or organs that contained fluid. The anatomic details, such as location, size, shape, and number of the ROI, could be visualized intuitively; 2) The outer anatomic features (e. g. contour, edge, configuration, etc. ) of some organs or lesions surrounded by fluid could be displayed clearly. It could be concluded that surface mode on 3DUS could provide more diagnostic information than two-dimensional ultrasonography (2DUS) in some cases and could served as a beneficial supplement to ZDUS in clinical practice.

Helical Mode Absolute Statistical Equilibrium of Ideal Three-Dimensional Hall Magnetohydrodynamics

Using the Fourier helical decomposition, we obtain the absolute statistical equilibrium spectra of left- and right-handed helical modes in the incompressible ideal Hall magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). It is shown that the left-handed helical modes play a major role on the spectral transfer properties of turbulence when the generalized helicity and magnetic helicity are both positive. In contrast, the right-handed helical modes will play a major role when both are negative. Furthermore, we also find that if the generalized helicity and magnetic helicity have opposite signs, the tendency of equilibrium spectra to condense at the large or small wave numbers will be presented in different helical sectors. This indicates that the generalized helicity dominates the forward cascade and the magnetic helicity dominates the inverse cascade properties of the Hall MHD turbulence.

Influences of Chinese culture and mode of thinking on English writing

The importance of cultivating students＇ cultural awareness is obvious in college English teaching process. On the Cultural Differences between Chinese and English Speaking People in Their Thinking Modes from the Perspective of Second Language Acquisition

The recent years have witnessed increasing opportunities for people from various cultural backgrounds to communicate with each other, which is naturally based on a general grasp of cultural knowledge and communicative techniques in cross-cultural settings. However, there often exist cultural clashes in such cases, especially between Chinese and English speaking people, which are deeply rooted in the wide differences in their languages and thinking modes. Indeed, this also serves to be an important part in the acquisition of the English culture for Chinese students in the current educational climate. The paper is intended to provide a contrastive analysis of the major cultural differences between Chinese and English speaking people in their thinking modes in three aspects of the descriptive versus the formal, the concrete versus the abstract, and the practical versus the logical form the linguistic perspective. And the paper comes to the conclusion that a general understanding of these significant differences may enable Chinese-speaking people and English-speaking people to establish a more efficient communication with each other.

Analysis on Construction of the Cultivation Mode of Thinking Ability in College English Teaching

The Differences of Thinking Modes Between East and West and Coping Strategies in Translation
