This study presents the Chebyshev polynomials-based Ritz method to examine the thermal buckling and free vibration characteristics of metal foam beams. The analyses include three models for porosity distribution and two scenarios for thermal distribution. The material properties are assessed under two conditions,i.e.,temperature dependence and temperature independence. The theoretical framework for the beams is based on the higher-order shear deformation theory, which incorporates shear deformations with higher-order polynomials. The governing equations are established from the Lagrange equations, and the beam displacement fields are approximated by the Chebyshev polynomials.Numerical simulations are performed to evaluate the effects of thermal load, slenderness, boundary condition(BC),and porosity distribution on the buckling and vibration behaviors of metal foam beams. The findings highlight the significant influence of temperature-dependent(TD)material properties on metal foam beams'buckling and vibration responses. 展开更多

An analytical method for analyzing the thermal vibration of multi-directional functionally graded porous rectangular plates in fluid media with novel porosity patterns is developed in this study.Mechanical properties of MFG porous plates change according to the length, width, and thickness directions for various materials and the porosity distribution which can be widely applied in many fields of engineering and defence technology.Especially, new porous rules that depend on spatial coordinates and grading indexes are proposed in the present work.Applying Hamilton's principle and the refined higher-order shear deformation plate theory, the governing equation of motion of an MFG porous rectangular plate in a fluid medium(the fluid-plate system)is obtained. The fluid velocity potential is derived from the boundary conditions of the fluid-plate system and is used to compute the extra mass. The GalerkinVlasov solution is used to solve and give natural frequencies of MFG porous plates with various boundary conditions in a fluid medium. The validity and reliability of the suggested method are confirmed by comparing numerical results of the present work with those from available works in the literature. The effects of different parameters on the thermal vibration response of MFG porous rectangular plates are studied in detail. These findings demonstrate that the behavior of the structure within a liquid medium differs significantly from that within a vacuum medium.Thereby, they offer appropriate operational approaches for the structure when employed in various mediums. 展开更多

A three-dimensional(3D)thermomechanical vibration model is developed for rotating pre-twisted functionally graded(FG)microbeams according to the refined shear deformation theory(RSDT)and the modified couple stress theory(MCST).The material properties are assumed to follow a power-law distribution along the chordwise direction. The model introduces one axial stretching variable and four transverse deflection variables including two pure bending components and two pure shear ones. The complex modal analysis and assumed mode methods are used to solve the governing equations of motion under different boundary conditions(BCs).Several examples are presented to verify the effectiveness of the developed model.By coupling the slenderness ratio, gradient index, rotation speed, and size effect with the pre-twisted angle, the effects of these factors on the thermomechanical vibration of the microbeam with different BCs are investigated. It is found that with the increase in the pre-twisted angle, the critical slenderness ratio and gradient index corresponding to the thermal instability of the microbeam increase, while the critical material length scale parameter(MLSP)and rotation speed decrease. The sensitivity of the fundamental frequency to temperature increases with the increasing slenderness ratio and gradient index, and decreases with the other increasing parameters. Moreover, the size effect can suppress the dynamic stiffening effect and enhance the Coriolis effect. Finally, the mode transition is quantitatively demonstrated by a modal assurance criterion(MAC). 展开更多

This paper presents the study of a three-dimensional(3D) isolation system.Firstly, the authors investigated the effects of an innovative 3D isolator, which was composed of a connecting plate,a rubber pad for vibration isolation in the vertical direction and a horizontal rubber bearing for seismic isolation in both horizontal directions.Secondly, the authors designed such a vibration isolation system and installed it underneath two specific residential buildings which were built directly over an existing subway communication hub platform in Beijing. These buildings required good performance vibration and seismic isolation system to reduce the impact from the running of nearby subway trains. Finally,in situ tests were conducted for both the isolated and the non-isolated buildings for the purpose of comparison. The test results showed that the maximum acceleration response level of the isolated superstructure is reduced by 10% as compared to that of the platform. The maximum attenuation of vibration reaches up to 25 dB.The 3D system explored in this paper is very effective in control and suppression of building vibration induced by earthquakes or running of trains. 展开更多

A typical blasting vibration wave is a composite wave, and its attenuation law is affected by the type of dominant wave component. The purpose of the present study is to establish an attenuation equation of the peak particle velocity(PPV),taking into account the attenuation characteristics of P-,S-and R-waves in the blasting vibration wave.Field blasting tests were carried out as a case to specifically apply the proposed equation. In view of the fact that the discrete properties of rock mass will inevitably cause the uncertainty of blasting vibration,we also carried out a probability analysis of PPV uncertainty, and introduced the concept of reliability to evaluate blasting vibration. The results showed that the established attenuation equation had a higher prediction accuracy, and can be considered as a promising equation implemented on more complex sites. The adopted uncertainty analysis method can comprehensively take account of the attenuation law of blasting vibration measured on site and discrete properties of rock masses. The obtained distribution of the PPV uncertainty factor can quantitatively evaluate the reliability of blasting vibration, which is a powerful and necessary supplement to the PPV attenuation equation. 展开更多

In this paper, the free vibration of magneto- electro-elastic (MEE) nanoplates is investigated based on the nonlocal theory and Kirchhoff plate theory. The MEE nanoplate is assumed as all edges simply supported rectan gular plate subjected to the biaxial force, external electric potential, external magnetic potential, and temperature rise. By using the Hamilton's principle, the governing equations and boundary conditions are derived and then solved analytically to obtain the natural frequencies of MEE nanoplates. A parametric study is presented to examine the effect of the nonlocal parameter, thermo-magneto-electro-mechanical loadings and aspect ratio on the vibration characteristics of MEE nanoplates. It is found that the natural frequency is quite sensitive to the mechanical loading, electric loading and magnetic loading, while it is insensitive to the thermal loading. 展开更多

The infrared absorption and 514.5 nm excited Raman spectra were measured for the metallo- tetra-(tert-butyl)-tetraazaporphyrin (MT(tBu)TAP, M--Cu, Co, Ni, Zn). The ground-state structures and vibrational spectra of MT(tBu)TAPs have been calculated at the B3LYP level of theory. The observed Raman and IR bands have been assigned based on the calculation results and by comparing with the normal metalloporphyrins. The relationship between the Raman/IR frequencies and the structures of TAP ring was investigated. The results show that the frequencies of CβCβ′ stretch (Ag), asymmetric CaNto stretch (Ag), and symmetric CaNto stretch (Bg) modes increase linearly with the decrease of the core-sizes of TAP ring. Among the three modes, the later two are more sensitive to the core-size change. 展开更多

The crystal structure of L-glutamine is stabilized by a three-dimensional network of intermolecular hydrogen bonds. We utilize plane-wave density functional theory lattice-dynamics calculations within the generalized-gradient approximation(GGA), Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof(PBE), PBE for solids(PBEsol), PBE with Wu–Cohen exchange(WC), and dispersion-corrected PBE, to investigate the effect of these intermolecular contacts on the absorption spectra of glutamine in the terahertz frequency range. Among these calculations, the solid-state simulated results obtained using the WC method exhibit a good agreement with the measured absorption spectra, and the absorption features are assigned with the help of WC. This indicates that the vibrational modes of glutamine were related to the combination of intramolecular and intermolecular motions, the intramolecular modes were dominated by rocking or torsion involving functional groups; the intermolecular modes mainly result from the translational motions of individual molecules, and the rocking of the hydrogenbonded functional groups. 展开更多

Free vibration response of functionally graded material (FGM) beams is studied based on the Levinson beam theory (LBT). Equations of motion of an FGM beam are derived by directly integrating the stress-form equations of elasticity along the beam depth with the inertial resultant forces related to the included coupling and higherorder shear strain. Assuming harmonic response, governing equations of the free vibration of the FGM beam are reduced to a standard system of second-order ordinary differential equations associated with boundary conditions in terms of shape functions related to axial and transverse displacements and the rotational angle. By a shooting method to solve the two-point boundary value problem of the three coupled ordinary differential equations, free vibration response of thick FGM beams is obtained numerically. Particularly, for a beam with simply supported edges, the natural frequency of an FGM Levinson beam is analytically derived in terms of the natural frequency of a corresponding homogenous Euler-Bernoulli beam. As the material properties are assumed to vary through the depth according to the power-law functions, the numerical results of frequencies are presented to examine the effects of the material gradient parameter, the length-to-depth ratio, and the boundary conditions on the vibration response. 展开更多

The linear and nonlinear torsional free vibration analyses of functionMly graded micro/nuno-tubes (FGMTs) are analytically investigated based on the couple stress theory. The employed non-classical continuum theory contains one material length scale parameter, which can capture the small scale effect. The FGMT model accounts for the through-radius power-law variation of a two-constituent material. Hamilton's principle is used to develop the non-classical nonlinear governing equation. To study the effect of the boundary conditions, two types of end conditions, i.e., fixed-fixed and fixed-free, are considered. The derived boundary value governing equation is of the fourthorder, and is solved by the homotopy analysis method (HAM). This method is based on the Taylor series with an embedded parameter and is capable of providing very good approximations by means of only a few terms, if the initial guess and the auxiliary linear operator are properly selected. The analytical expressions are developed for the linear and nonlinear natural frequencies, which can be conveniently used to investigate the effects of the dimensionless length scale parameter, the material gradient index, and the vibration amplitude on the natural frequencies of FGMTs. 展开更多

In this research, vibration and wave propagation analysis of a twisted micro- beam on Pasternak foundation is investigated. The strain-displacement relations (kine-matic equations) are calculated by the displacement fields of the twisted micro-beam. The strain gradient theory (SGT) is used to implement the size dependent effect at micro-scale. Finally, using an energy method and Hamilton's principle, the governing equations of motion for the twisted micro-beam are derived. Natural frequencies and the wave prop- agation speed of the twisted micro-beam are calculated with an analytical method. Also, the natural frequency, the phase speed, the cut-off frequency, and the wave number of the twisted micro-beam are obtained by considering three material length scale parameters, the rate of twist angle, the thickness, the length of twisted micro-beam, and the elastic medium. The results of this work indicate that the phase speed in a twisted micro-beam increases with an increase in the rate of twist angle. Moreover, the wave number is in- versely related with the thickness of micro-beam. Meanwhile, it is directly related to the wave propagation frequency. Increasing the rate of twist angle causes the increase in the natural frequency especially with higher thickness. The effect of the twist angle rate on the group velocity is observed at a lower wave propagation frequency. 展开更多

Variational principles for the buckling and vibration of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are established with the aid of the semi-inverse method. They are used to derive the natural and geometric boundary conditions coupled by small scale parameters. Hamilton's principle and Rayleigh's quotient for the buckling and vibration of the MWCNTs are given. The Rayleigh-Ritz method is used to study the buckling and vibration of the single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) with three typical boundary conditions. The identification of variations in the dynamic behavior of structures is an important subject in structural integrity assessment.Improvement and servicing of offshore platforms in the marine environment with constant changing, requires understanding the real behavior of these structures to prevent possible failure. In this work, empirical and numerical models of jacket structure are investigated.A test on experimental modal analysis is accomplished to acquire the response of structure and a mathematical model of the jacket structure is also performed. Then, based on the control theory using developed reduction system, the matrices of the platform model is calibrated and updated. The current methodology can be applied to prepare the finite element model to be more adaptable to the empirical model.Calibrated results with the proposed approach in this paper are very close to those of the actual model and also this technique leads to a reduction in the amount of calculations and expenses. The research clearly confirms that the dynamic behavior of fixed marine structures should be designed and assessed considering the calibrated analytical models for the safety of these structures. 展开更多

This paper uses the four-variable refined plate theory (RPT) for the free vibration analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) sandwich rectangular plates. Unlike other theories, there are only four unknown functions involved, as compared to five in other shear deformation theories. The theory presented is variationally consistent and strongly similar to the classical plate theory in many aspects. It does not require the shear correction factor, and gives rise to the transverse shear stress variation so that the transverse shear stresses vary parabolically across the thickness to satisfy free surface conditions for the shear stress. Two common types of FGM sandwich plates are considered, namely, the sandwich with the FGM facesheet and the homogeneous core and the sandwich with the homogeneous facesheet and the FGM core. The equation of motion for the FGM sandwich plates is obtained based on Hamilton's principle. The closed form solutions are obtained by using the Navier technique. The fundamental frequencies are found by solving the eigenvalue problems. The validity of the theory is shown by comparing the present results with those of the classical, the first-order, and the other higher-order theories. The proposed theory is accurate and simple in solving the free vibration behavior of the FGM sandwich plates. 展开更多

Based on the nonlocal continuum theory, the nonlinear vibration of an embedded single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) subjected to a harmonic load is in- vestigated. In the present study, the SWCNT is assumed to be a curved beam, which is unlike previous similar work. Firstly, the governing equations of motion are derived by the Hamilton principle, meanwhile, the Galerkin approach is carried out to convert the nonlinear integral-differential equation into a second-order nonlinear ordinary differ- ential equation. Then, the precise integration method based on the local linearzation is appropriately designed for solving the above dynamic equations. Besides, the numerical example is presented, the effects of the nonlocal parameters, the elastic medium constants, the waviness ratios, and the material lengths on the dynamic response are analyzed. The results show that the above mentioned effects have influences on the dynamic behavior of the SWCNT. 展开更多

In this paper, we established a 2-degree-of-freedom (DOF) nonlinear vibration model for such a system, deduced the differential equations of motion which govern its dynamics, and worked out the solutions for the governing equations by the principle of superposition of nonlinear normal modes (NLNM) based on Shaw’s theory of invariant manifolds. According to the main characters of overlapping underground chambers, the roof (floor) of two adjacent underground chambers is simplified to the mechanical model that is the beam with build-in ends. And vibration load due to blasting is simplified to harmonic wave. The catastrophic model of double cusp for underground chambers destabilization induced by blasting vibration has been established under the circumstances of considering deadweight of the beam, and the condition of destabilization has been worked out. The critical safety thickness of the roof (floor) of underground chambers has been confirmed according to the destabilization condition. The influence of amplitude and frequency of blasting vibration load on the critical safety thickness has been analyzed, and the quantitative relation between velocity, frequency of blasting vibration and critical safety thickness has been determined. Research results show that the destabilization of underground chambers is not only dependent on the amplitude and frequency of blasting vibration load, but also related to deadweight load and intrinsic attribute. It is accordant to testing results and some related latest research results of blasting seismic effect. With increasing amplitude, the critical safety thickness of underground chambers decreases gradually. And the possibility of underground chambers destabilization increases. When the frequency of blasting vibration is equal to or very close to the frequency of beam, resonance effect will take place in the system. Then the critical safety thickness will turn to zero, underground chambers will be damaged severely, and its loading capacity will lose on the whole. 展开更多
