Automatic measurement of three-phase contact angles in pore throats based on digital images

With the help of digital image processing technology, an automatic measurement method for the three-phase contact angles in the pore throats of the microfluidic model was established using the microfluidic water flooding experiment videos as the data source. The results of the new method were verified through comparing with the manual measurement data.On this basis, the dynamic changes of the three-phase contact angles under flow conditions were clarified by the contact angles probability density curve and mean value change curve. The results show that, for water-wetting rocks, the mean value of the contact angles is acute angle during the early stage of the water flooding process, and it increases with the displacement time and becomes obtuse angle in the middle-late stage of displacement as the dominant force of oil phase gradually changes from viscous force to capillary force. The droplet flow in the remaining oil occurs in the central part of the pore throats, without three-phase contact angle. The contact angles for the porous flow and the columnar flow change slightly during the displacement and present as obtuse angles in view of mean values, which makes the remaining oil poorly movable and thus hard to be recovered. The mean value of the contact angle for the cluster flow tends to increase in the flooding process, which makes the remaining oil more difficult to be recovered. The contact angles for the membrane flow are mainly obtuse angles and reach the highest mean value in the late stage of displacement, which makes the remaining oil most difficult to be recovered. After displacement, the remaining oils under different flow regimes are just subjected to capillary force, with obtuse contact angles, and the wettability of the pore throat walls in the microfluidic model tends to be oil-wet under the action of crude oil. 展开更多

Abstract Spreading of nanofluids on solid substrate was studied via molecular dynamics simulations. Simulation models for two immiscible fluids (oil and water based nanofiuids) confined in a slit between two planar solid walls were set up. The influence of the volume concentration of the nanoparticles on the three-phase contact line motion was investigated. We found that the larger volume concentration results in more visible nanoparticle adsorption on solid surface. This effect further induces an advancing displacement of the contact line compared with the meniscus profiles in low concentration case and that with the absence of nanoparticles. These findings are consistent with the previous experimental and theoretical results and provide the atomic-scale understanding on nanofluid spreading. 展开更多

Pseudocapacitive transition metal oxides(PTMOs)have the advantages of high areal capacitance and material density suitable for high-energy supercapacitor devices,but they are typically marred by insufficient rate performance,which in turn deteriorates cyclic stability at high current levels.Using the example of spinel manganese oxide,herein we demonstrate that a pseudocapacitive oxide electrode of remarkable rate performance and cyclic stability may be realized by adopting oxide nanocrystallites,which are derived based on a novel solution chemistry,and carbon additive(CA)nanoparticles with highly uniform of size distributions.Precisely controlling the particle morphology and size distribution of the active material and conductive additive(CA)in the nanometer range can maximize the density of active material-CA-electrolyte three-phase contact points,thus facilitating synchronized electron and cation flow for the completion of surface faradaic reactions.The resultant Mn3O4 pseudocapacitive electrode exhibits rate capability and cycle stability,including 60%capacity retention at 60 A g-1 and no capacity fade over 100000 cycles under dynamic current densities,far superior to the state-of-the-art PTMO electrodes.The electrode design strategy is in general applicable to pseudocapacitors containing poorly conductive active materials. 展开更多

The apparent contact angle of Cassie-Baxter state water droplets can be calculated by the existing theoretical formula, but due to the defects of the micro-structured hydrophobic surface and some inevitable tiny disturbances in the experiment, Cassie-Baxter state water droplets will appear partly in Wenzel state, that is, the mixed state water droplets. In this paper, apparent contact angles of Cassie-Baxter state and mixed state water droplets on micro-structured hydrophobic surfaces are compared. The research shows that if the projected area fraction of water-solid F in the Cassie-Baxter formula is replaced by the local projected area fraction of water-solid F′, the apparent contact angles of water droplets in both Cassie-Baxter state and the mixed state can be calculated. Further experimental results indicate that the contact state of water droplets nearby the outermost three-phase contact line plays a more important role in determining the apparent contact angle. This conclusion is significant to the understanding of the apparent contact angle and wetting property. 展开更多

低阶煤浮选中,通过表面改性提高煤表面的疏水性是关键,选取FO复配药剂对长焰煤表面进行改性,研究表面改性对气泡与煤表面碰撞黏附行为的影响.分析了长焰煤的表面性质和FO药剂的物理化学性质,采用自制的气-液-固三相接触测试系统对气泡... 低阶煤浮选中,通过表面改性提高煤表面的疏水性是关键,选取FO复配药剂对长焰煤表面进行改性,研究表面改性对气泡与煤表面碰撞黏附行为的影响.分析了长焰煤的表面性质和FO药剂的物理化学性质,采用自制的气-液-固三相接触测试系统对气泡与改性前后煤表面碰撞黏附的微观过程进行记录和分析,并通过浮选试验对FO药剂在煤表面的改性效果进行验证.结果表明:在改性前,气泡与煤表面的碰撞需要经过3次弹跳才能趋于稳定,但并未形成稳定的三相接触周边;经FO药剂改性后,气泡与煤表面碰撞后可以形成稳定的三相接触周边,且随着药剂质量浓度的增加,弹跳次数减少,达到最终黏附状态所用的时间也越来越短,三相接触面积由8.73 mm^2增加至14.62 mm^2.浮选验证试验表明,随着FO药剂用量的增加,精煤产率由30.34%增加至69.83%,灰分由9.89%降低至7.83%,浮选效果良好,这与碰撞黏附试验的研究效果相一致. 展开更多
