In Beyond the Fifth Generation(B5G)heterogeneous edge networks,numerous users are multiplexed on a channel or served on the same frequency resource block,in which case the transmitter applies coding and the receiver uses interference cancellation.Unfortunately,uncoordinated radio resource allocation can reduce system throughput and lead to user inequity,for this reason,in this paper,channel allocation and power allocation problems are formulated to maximize the system sum rate and minimum user achievable rate.Since the construction model is non-convex and the response variables are high-dimensional,a distributed Deep Reinforcement Learning(DRL)framework called distributed Proximal Policy Optimization(PPO)is proposed to allocate or assign resources.Specifically,several simulated agents are trained in a heterogeneous environment to find robust behaviors that perform well in channel assignment and power allocation.Moreover,agents in the collection stage slow down,which hinders the learning of other agents.Therefore,a preemption strategy is further proposed in this paper to optimize the distributed PPO,form DP-PPO and successfully mitigate the straggler problem.The experimental results show that our mechanism named DP-PPO improves the performance over other DRL methods. 展开更多

The problem is modeled as a constrained optimization problem to maximize the total throughput of the secondary users( SUs). The mapping between the throughput scheduling problems and the immune algorithm is given. Suitable immune operators are designed such as binary antibody encoding, antibody initialization based on pre-knowledge, a proportional clone to its affinity and an adaptive mutation operator associated with the evolutionary generation. The simulation results showthat the proposed algorithm can obtain about 95% of the optimal throughput and operate with much lower liner computational complexity. 展开更多

A new acknowledgment-type slotted-ALOHA code division multiple access (ACK-ALOHA-CDMA) channel which can be used in the inbound channels of very small aperture terminal(VSAT) networks is proposed in order to simplify the synchronization equipment of networks in the slotted-ALOHA- CDMA systems. By dividing all VSAT stations into M subsystems and sending out periodic inquiry signals from the Hub station to the VSAT station, the channel model is established. By the means of deriving multi-access interference(MAI) and packet detecting probability, steady-state throughput is calculated. By applying diffusion process theory to the analysis of the stability of the ACK-ALOHA-CDMA channel, the drift parameter a(r), the diffusion parameter b(r) and the steady transition probability density p (r) are investigated. Simulation results indicate that significant performance improvement and high-bandwidth efficiency can be gained and one or two steady equilibrium points can be obtained by using this channel. Consequently, the ACK- ALOHA-CDMA channel is very suitable for cutting down on the expense of satellite VSAT systems and distributed packet radio networks. 展开更多

At this material removal rate, it took only 0.57 s to drill a hole in a 6.35 mm thick Ti plate. Supplying the cutting fluid via through-the-drill holes and the balance of cutting speed and feed have proven to be critical for drill life. An inverse heat transfer model is developed to predict the heat flux and the drill temperature distribution in drilling. A three-dimensional finite element modeling of drilling is con-ducted to predict the thrust force and torque. Experimental result demonstrates that, using proper machining process parameters, tool geometry, and fine-grained WC-Co tool material, the high throughput machining of Ti alloy is technically feasible. 展开更多

This paper presents a performance study of the distributed coordination function (DCF) of 802.11 networks considering erroneous channel and capture effects under non-saturated traffic conditions employing a basic access method.The aggregate throughput of a practical wireless local area network (WLAN) strongly depends on the channel conditions.In a real radio environment,the received signal power at the access point from a station is subjected to deterministic path loss,shadowing,and fast multipath fading.The binary exponential backoff (BEB) mechanism of IEEE 802.11 DCF severely suffers from more channel idle time under high bit error rate (BER).To alleviate the low performance of IEEE 802.11 DCF,a new mechanism is introduced,which greatly outperforms the existing methods under a high BER.A multidimensional Markov chain model is used to characterize the behavior of DCF in order to account both non-ideal channel conditions and capture effects. 展开更多

The fifth generation (5G) wireless communication is currently a hot research topic and wireless communication systems on high speed railways (HSR) are important applications of 5G technologies. Existing stud- ies about 5G wireless systems on high speed railways (HSR) often utilize ideal channel parameters and are usually based on simple scenarios. In this paper, we evaluate the down- link throughput of 5G HSR communication systems on three typical scenarios including urban, cutting and viaduct with three different channel estimators. The channel parameters of each scenario are generated with tapped delay line (TDL) models through ray-tracing sim- ulations, which can be considered as a good match to practical situations. The channel estimators including least square (LS), linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE), and our proposed historical information based ba- sis expansion model (HiBEM). We analyze the performance of the HiBEM estimator in terms of mean square error (MSE) and evaluate the system throughputs with different channel estimates over each scenario. Simulation results are then provided to corroborate our proposed studies. It is shown that our HiBEM estimator outperforms other estimators and that the sys-tem throughput can reach the highest point in the viaduct scenario. 展开更多

Our aim is to study the roles of a new emerging group of non-coding RNAs, circRNAs, in tomato(Solanum lycopersicum L.) plants grown at the combination of drought and heat, two of the most usual stress conditions known to frequently happen in field. Tomato seedlings from cultivar‘Jinling Meiyu’ were treated without stresses(control), at water shortage, high temperature and subjected the multiple stresses. In total, 467 circRNAs were identified with 87.82% from exon using high throughput sequencing technology. Among the circRNAs, 70 were from chr1 with the range from 23 to 49 from the other chromosomes. In detail, 156 circRNAs were shared in the four libraries, while 21, 17 and 36 circRNAs were only shown in drought, heat and multiple stresses libraries, respectively. Through a differential expression analysis, four, seven and nine circRNAs were differentially regulated in tomato at drought, heat and multiple stresses as compared with control. These circRNAs played roles on photosynthesis, starch and sucrose metabolism, RNA transport, RNA degradation, spliceosome, ribosome, etc. Our study underlined the potential role of circRNAs involved in the abiotic stress response in tomato, which might pave the way for studying biological roles of circRNAs responding to multiple stresses in plants. 展开更多

This study was conducted to investigate the phylogenetic diversity of archaea in the rumen of adult and elderly yaks. Six domesticated female yaks, 3 adult yaks ((5.3±0.6) years old), and 3 elderly yaks ((10.7±0.6) years old), were used for the rumen contents collection. Illumina MiSeq high-throughput sequencing technology was applied to examine the archaeal composition of rumen contents. A total of 92 901 high-quality archaeal sequences were analyzed, and these were assigned to 2 033 operational taxonomic units (OTUs). Among these, 974 OTUs were unique to adult yaks while 846 OTUs were unique to elderly yaks; 213 OTUs were shared by both groups. At the phylum level, more than 99% of the obtained OTUs belonged to the Euryarchaeota phylum. At the genus level, the archaea could be divided into 7 archaeal genera. The 7 genera (i.e., Methanobrevibacter, Methanobacterium, Methanosphaera, Thermogymnomonas, Methanomicrobiu, Meth- animicrococcus and the unclassified genus) were shared by all yaks, and their total abundance accounted for 99% of the rumen archaea. The most abundant archaea in elderly and adult yaks were Methanobrevibacterand Thermogymnomonas, respectively. The abundance of Methanobacteria (class), Methanobacteriales (order), Methanobacteriaceae (family), and Methanobrevibacter (genus) in elderly yaks was significantly higher than in adult yaks. In contrast, the abundance of Ther-mogymnomonas in elderly yaks was 34% lower than in adult yaks, though the difference was not statistically significant. The difference in abundance of other archaea was not significant between the two groups. These results suggested that the structure of archaea in the rumen of yaks changed with age. This is the first study to compare the phytogenetic differences of rumen archaeal structure and composition using the yak model. 展开更多

Background: RNA editing is a co/posttranscriptional modification mechanism that increases the diversity of transcripts, with potential functional consequences. The advent of next-generation sequencing technologies has enabled the identification of RNA edits at unprecedented throughput and resolution. However, our knowledge of RNA editing in swine is still limited.Results: Here, we utilized RES-Scanner to identify RNA editing sites in the brain, subcutaneous fat, heart, liver,muscle, lung and ovary in three 180-day-old Large White gilts based on matched strand-specific RNA sequencing and whole-genome resequencing datasets. In total, we identified 74863 editing sites, and 92.1% of these sites caused adenosine-to-guanosine(A-to-G) conversion. Most A-to-G sites were located in noncoding regions and generally had low editing levels. In total, 151 A-to-G sites were detected in coding regions(CDS), including 94 sites that could lead to nonsynonymous amino acid changes. We provide further evidence supporting a previous observation that pig transcriptomes are highly editable at PRE-1 elements. The number of A-to-G editing sites ranged from 4155(muscle) to 25001(brain) across the seven tissues. The expression levels of the ADAR enzymes could explain some but not all of this variation across tissues. The functional analysis of the genes with tissuespecific editing sites in each tissue revealed that RNA editing might play important roles in tissue function.Specifically, more pathways showed significant enrichment in the fat and liver than in other tissues, while no pathway was enriched in the muscle.Conclusions: This study identified a total of 74863 nonredundant RNA editing sites in seven tissues and revealed the potential importance of RNA editing in tissue function. Our findings largely extend the porcine editome and enhance our understanding of RNA editing in swine. 展开更多

In this paper, we propose a technique for lowering the latency of the communication in a NoC (network on chip). The technique, which can support two qualities of service (QoS), i.e., the guaranteed throughput (GT) and best effort (BE), is based on splitting a wider link into narrower links to increase throughput and decrease latency in the NoC. In addition, to ease the synchronization and reduce the crosstalk, we use the l-of-4 encoding for the smaller buses. The use of the encoding in the proposed NoC architecture considerably lowers the latency for both BE and GT packets. In addition, the bandwidth is increased while the power consumption of the links is reduced. 展开更多

The efficient antenna scheduling strategy for data relay satellites(DRSs)is essential to optimize the throughput or delay of the satellite data relay network.However,these two objectives conflict with each other since the user satellites(USs)with higher priorities take up more transmission time of DRSs’antennas for greater throughput but the USs storing more packets cause a severer waiting delay to the whole network.To balance the conflicting metrics for meeting the delay-throughput integrated requirements,we formulate the antenna scheduling as a stochastic non-convex fractional programming,which is challenging to be solved.For the tractability,we equivalently transform the fractional programming to a parametric problem and implement the Lyapunov drift to guarantee the constraint of mean rate stability.By proposing a delay and throughput tradeoff based antenna scheduling algorithm,we further transform the parametric problem to a solvable weight matching problem.Simulation results reveal the feasible region of the preference control parameter for integrated QoS cases and its variation relationship with network delay and throughput. 展开更多

It is known that packet collisions in wireless networks will deteriorate system performance, hence substantial efforts have been made to avoid collision in multi-user access designs. Also, there have been many studies on throughput analysis of CSMA wireless networks. However, for a typical CSMA network in which not all nodes can sense each other, it is still not well investigated how link throughputs are affected by collisions. We note that in practical 802.11-like networks, the time is divided into mini-timeslots and packet collisions are in fact unavoidable. Thus, it is desirable to move forward to explore how collisions in such a network will affect system performance. Based on the collision-free ideal CSMA network(ICN) model, this paper attempts to analyze link throughputs when taking the backoff collisions into account and examine the effect of collisions on link throughputs. Specifically, we propose an Extended Ideal CSMA Network(EICN) model to characterize the collision effects as well as the interactions and dependency among links in the network. Based on EICN, we could directly compute link throughputs and collision probabilities. Simulations show that the EICN model is of high accuracy. Under various network topologies and protocol parameter settings, the computation error of link throughputs using EICN is kept to 4% or below. Interestingly, we find that unlike expected, the effect of collisions on link throughputs in a modest CSMA wireless network is not significant, which enriches our understanding on practical CSMA wireless networks such as Wi-Fi. 展开更多

It is well preserved and not disturbed by anthropogenic activities. In this study, microbial community structures in sediment and water samples from Huguangyan Maar Lake were investigated using a high-throughput sequencing method. We found significant differences between the microbial community compositions of the water and the sediment. The sediment samples contained more diverse Bacteria and Archaea than did the water samples. Actinobacteria, Betaproteobacteria, Cyanobacteria, and Deltaproteobacteria predominated in the water samples while Deltaproteobacteria, Anaerolineae, Nitrospira, and Dehalococcoidia were the major bacterial groups in the sediment. As for Archaea, Woesearchaeota (DHVEG-6), unclassified Archaea, and Deep Sea Euryarchaeotic Group were detected at higher abundances in the water, whereas the Miscellaneous Crenarchaeotic Group, Thermoplasmata, and Methanomicrobia were significantly more abundant in the sediment. Interactions between Bacteria and Archaea were common in both the water column and the sediment. The concentrations of major nutrients (NO^3-, PO4^3-, SiO3^2- and NH4^+) shaped the microbial population structures in the water. At the higher phylogenetic levels including phylum and class, many of the dominant groups were those that were also abundant in other lakes;however, novel microbial populations (unclassified) were often seen at the lower phylogenetic levels. Our study lays a foundation for examining microbial biogeochemical cycling in sequestered lakes or reservoirs. 展开更多

Background:In-feed antibiotics are being phased out in livestock production worldwide.Alternatives to antibiotics are urgently needed to maintain animal health and production performance.Host defense peptides(HDPs)are known for their broad-spectrum antimicrobial and immunomodulatory capabilities.Enhancing the synthesis of endogenous HDPs represents a promising antibiotic alternative strategy to disease control and prevention.Methods:To identify natural products with an ability to stimulate the synthesis of endogenous HDPs,we performed a high-throughput screening of 1261 natural products using a newly-established stable luciferase reporter cell line known as IPEC-J2/pBD3-luc.The ability of the hit compounds to induce HDP genes in porcine IPEC-J2 intestinal epithelial cells,3D4/31 macrophages,and jejunal explants were verified using RT-qPCR.Augmentation of the antibacterial activity of porcine 3D4/31 macrophages against a Gram-negative bacterium(enterotoxigenic E.coli)and a Gram-positive bacterium(Staphylococcus aureus)were further confirmed with four selected HDP-inducing compounds.Results:A total of 48 natural products with a minimum Z-score of 2.0 were identified after high-throughput screening,with 21 compounds giving at least 2-fold increase in luciferase activity in a follow-up dose-response experiment.Xanthohumol and deoxyshikonin were further found to be the most potent in inducing pBD3 mRNA expression,showing a minimum 10-fold increase in IPEC-J2,3D4/31 cells,and jejunal explants.Other compounds such as isorhapontigenin and calycosin also enhanced pBD3 mRNA expression by at least 10-fold in both IPEC-J2 cells and jejunal explants,but not 3D4/31 cells.In addition to pBD3,other porcine HDP genes such as pBD2,PG1-5,and pEP2C were induced to different magnitudes by xanthohumol,deoxyshikonin,isorhapontigenin,and calycosin,although clear gene-and cell type-specific patterns of regulation were observed.Desirably,these four compounds had a minimum effect on the expression of several representative inflammatory cytokine genes.Furthermore,when used at HDP-inducing concentrations,these compounds showed no obvious direct antibacterial activity,but significantly augmented the antibacterial activity of 3D4/31 macrophages(P<0.05)against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.Conclusions:Our results indicate that these newly-identified natural HDP-inducing compounds have the potential to be developed as novel alternatives to antibiotics for prophylactic and therapeutic treatment of infectious diseases in livestock production. 展开更多

Deviating from previous works which focus on single-rate network coding, our work takes the heterogeneity of sinks into account and provides multiple data layers to address the problem. Firstly formulated is the maximal achievable throughput problem with the assumption that the data layers are independent and layer rates are static. It is proved that the problem in this case is, unfortunately, Non-deterministic Polynomial-time (NP)-hard. In addition, our formulation is extended to the problems with dependent layers and dynamic layers. Furthermore, the approximation algorithm which satisfies certain fair-ness is proposed. 展开更多

The exponentially increasing number of heterogeneous Internet of Things(Io T)devices(e.g.,Wi Fi and Zig Bee)crowed in the same ISM band(2.4 G)and recent advances in CrossTechnology Communications(CTC)motivate us to explore more efficient data collection and maximize network throughput.CTC enables Wi Fi and Zig Bee devices to communicate directly without any hardware changes or gateway equipment,which sheds light on a more efficient data collection design.In this work,we propose a distributed algorithm,named Max Bee,to compute the maximum network throughput,which is formulated as a linear programming problem.Considering that the problem turns out to be non-convex and hard to solve exactly,we propose a distributed algorithm to solve nonlinear programming by using the dual decomposition method and gradient/subgradient algorithms.Through extensive simulations on different sets of deployed Zig Bee and Wi Fi devices,we observe that the proposed algorithm significantly increases the network throughput based on CTC for Sensor Networks. 展开更多
