The spin precession signal of carriers at a fixed time delay is measured as a function of the orientation of the magnetic field with a fixed strength B. The signal has a sine-like form and its phase determines the sign of the g factor of carriers. As a natural extension of previous methods to measure the (time-resolved) photoluminescence or time-resolved Kerr rotation signal as a function of the magnetic field strength with a fixed orientation, such a method gives the correct sign of the g factor of electrons in GaAs. Furthermore, the sign of carriers in a (Ga, Mn)As magnetic semiconductor is also found to be negative.展开更多

Central temperature of liquid samples held in glass test tubes immersed in a liquid bath was measured and collected. Nucleation temperature and phase transition time were obtained from freezing curves. Normality tests were performed for nucleation temperature of these liquids with/without magnetic field and normality distributions were justified. Analysis of variances was carried out for nucleation temperature of these liquids with magnetic field flux density as the influencing factor. Results showed that no significant difference was found for deionized water with or without SMF. However, differences exist in 0.9% NaCl solution and 5% ethylene glycol solution with and without SMF. Nucleation temperature of 0.9% NaCl with SMF is lower than that without SMF, while its phase transition time is shorter than that without SMF. Nucleation temperature of 5% ethylene glycol with SMF is higher than that without SMF, while its phase transition time is not modified with SMF.展开更多

The solar cell is presented in open circuit transient operation. The magnetic field through the Laplace force which deflects the photogenerated carriers from their initial trajectory towards the lateral surfaces reducing their mobility, diffusion and conduction, will certainly influence the decay time of the transient regime. The transient density of excess minority carriers in the base is a sum of infinite terms whose decay time of the different harmonics is studied.展开更多

There was no reduction in the intensity of the magnetic field when two 2 cm thick dried pine boards (4.3 × 103 kg·m-3) were placed between the pairs of solenoids separated by the approximate width of the skull. Although volumes of water containing intracellular concentrations of ions did not attenuate the field intensity, placement of 290 cm2 of 2 mm sheets of duct metal reduced the amplitude by 25%. Spectra comparisons showed a clear congruence in profiles between direct measurement of the applied field and the original computer-generated pattern. These results indicate there is little validity to claims that weak, time-varying magnetic fields applied in this manner are eliminated or significantly attenuated by the human skull.展开更多

A variant of the so-called ’two-step’ method for gravity field modelling is adopted for this purpose, where the GRACE(Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment)orbits are derived from the GPS(Global Positioning System) data in a first step followed by a simultaneous determination of dynamic orbit and gravity filed from the GPS-derived orbits and K-band rangerate measurements in a second step. In this way, the monthly gravity field solutions complete to degree and order 96 are produced for the period Jan. 2005 to Dec. 2010. Their performance is assessed by comparing them with the official solutions, i.e., CSR RL05, GFZ RL05 a and JPL RL05. A comparison in the spectral domain in terms of geoid heights reveals that the obtained solutions present the smallest degree amplitudes at degree 30-75. A further analysis of mass changes in the spatial domain demonstrates that the main signals observed from the obtained solutions are in great agreement with those from the official solutions. Remarkably, the correlation coefficients of mass changes in large river basins from the official solutions with respect to those from the obtained solutions are all above 0.97. These results demonstrate that the obtained solutions are comparable to the official solutions.展开更多

We have taken interplanetary solar wind data at the instant of Dst minimum. Our study consists of 200 geomagnetic storms weighed by disturbance storm time (Dst) -50 nT, observed during solar cycle 23. The study suggests that the strength of the geomagnetic storm is strongly dependent on the total magnetic field Btotal. The correlation (-0.72) has been found reasonable. In perspective of previous studies, the strength of the geomagnetic storm is strongly dependent on the southward component (Bz) whereas in present study exposes that the correlation (0.22) is weak. This result indicates that solar wind southward magnetic field component Bz has significant growth particularly before the main phase of geomagnetic storm (not during the main phase). The present result implies that neither density nor temperature is significantly related to the variation of geomagnetic disturbance;rather the effects of the pressure and speed. However, a low plasma beta during highly geoeffective event seems to be an important criterion.展开更多

Candidate pulsations of interest are first identified in geomagnetic time series by inspection. Time series of these "training events" are represented in matrix form and transpose-multiplied to generate time- domain covariance matrices. The ranked eigenvectors of this matrix are stored as a feature of the pulsation. In the second stage of the algorithm, a sliding window (approxi- mately the width of the training event) is moved across the vector-valued time-series comprising the channels on which the training event was observed. At each window position, the data covariance matrix and associated eigen- vectors are calculated. We compare the orientation of the dominant eigenvectors of the training data to those from the windowed data and flag windows where the dominant eigenvectors directions are similar. This was successful in automatically identifying pulses which share polarization and appear to be from the same source process. We apply the method to a case study of continuously sampled (50 Hz) data from six observatories, each equipped with three- component induction coil magnetometers. We examine a 90-day interval of data associated with a cluster of four observatories located within 50 km of Napa, California, together with two remote reference stations-one 100 km to the north of the cluster and the other 350 km south. When the training data contains signals present in the remote reference observatories, we are reliably able to identify and extract global geomagnetic signals such as solar-generated noise. When training data contains pulsations only observed in the cluster of local observatories, we identify several types of non-plane wave signals having similar polarization.展开更多

This effect leads to drifting of the beam position over time, especially for a compact synchrotron.Simulations and measurements of different dipoles have been performed, to investigate the time delay and field quality. The simulations are conducted using OPERA software. The measurements are conducted using a long coil and Hall sensor. All results show that the magnetic field deviation is up to 0.4% for the dipole with stainless steel endplates. The simulations show that the main sources of eddy current are the field saturation effect and the field component Bz, introduced by the bedstead-type coil. Field correction using a power supply is adopted to reduce the deviation to less than 0.02%.展开更多
