Performance enhancement of a viscoelastic bistable energy harvester using time-delayed feedback control

This paper focuses on the stochastic analysis of a viscoelastic bistable energy harvesting system under colored noise and harmonic excitation, and adopts the time-delayed feedback control to improve its harvesting efficiency. Firstly, to obtain the dimensionless governing equation of the system, the original bistable system is approximated as a system without viscoelastic term by using the stochastic averaging method of energy envelope, and then is further decoupled to derive an equivalent system. The credibility of the proposed method is validated by contrasting the consistency between the numerical and the analytical results of the equivalent system under different noise conditions. The influence of system parameters on average output power is analyzed, and the control effect of the time-delayed feedback control on system performance is compared. The output performance of the system is improved with the occurrence of stochastic resonance(SR). Therefore, the signal-to-noise ratio expression for measuring SR is derived, and the dependence of its SR behavior on different parameters is explored. 展开更多

Sufficient conditions guaranteeing the convergence of the n-norm of the tracking error are derived. It is shown that the system outputs can be guaranteed to converge to desired trajectories in the absence of external disturbances and output measurement noises. And in the presence of state disturbances and measurement noises, the tracking error will be bounded uniformly. Traditional passive vibration absorbers are effective only when their natural frequencies are close to those of the excitations. To solve this problem, a vibration absorber with time-delayed feedback control is proposed to suppress vibration of the primary system under excitation with changing frequency. Firstly, the mechanical model of the delay coupled system is established. Then, the displacement transfer ratio of the system is obtained. The stability of the system is analyzed since delay may result in destabilization. Next, in order to design the control parameters, the vibration absorption performances of the proposed time-delayed vibration absorber are studied. The vibration absorption region is shown. The results show that time-delayed feedback control is able to change the response of the system. The effective vibration absorption frequency band is adjustable by tuning the control gain and time delay. The effective frequency band can be widened when choosing appropriate control parameters. The vibration absorption performances can be greatly improved by the time-delayed absorber. In addition, the optimum control parameters are obtained. Finally, the experimental prototype is constructed. Several tests with different control parameters are taken. The experimental and analytical results match quite well. 展开更多

A new approach is proposed to describe the relationship between slow and fast subsystems of singular time- delay systems, based on which, a sufficient condition is presented for a singular time-delay system to be regular, impulse free and stable with an H-infinity performance. The robust H-infinity control problem is solved and an explicit expression of the desired state-feedback control law is also given. The obtained results are formulated in terms of strict linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) involving no decomposition of system matrices. When this condition is feasible, the desired state feedback decentralized robust guaranteed cost controller gain matrices can be obtained. Based on a nonlinear state predictor (NSP) and a strong tracking filter (STF), a sensor fault tolerant generic model control (FTGMC) approach for a class of nonlinear time-delay processes is proposed. First, the NSP is introduced, and it is used to extend the conventional generic model control (GMC) to nonlinear processes with large input time-delay. Then the STF is adopted to estimate process states and sensor bias, the estimated sensor bias is used to drive a fault detection logic. When a sensor fault is detected, the estimated process states by the STF will be used to construct the process output to form a 'soft sensor', which is then used by the NSP (instead of the real outputs) to provide state predictors. These procedures constitute an active fault tolerant control scheme. Finally, simulation results of a three-tank-system demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

The purpose is to design state feedback controllers which can tolerate actuator failure, such that the closed-loop system is stable, and the specified cost function has an upper bound for all admissible uncertainties. The sufficient conditions for the solvability of this problem are obtained by a linear matrix inequality (LMI) method. By constructing the Lyapunov function with the error terms, the infinite time domain "min-max" optimization problems are converted into convex optimization problems solving by the linear matrix inequality (LMI), and the sufficient conditions for the existence of this control are derived. It is proved that the robust stability of the closed-loop singular systems can be guaranteed by the initial feasible solutions of the optimization problems, and the regular and the impulse-free of the singular systems are also guaranteed. Using fuzzy logic systems to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions, a fuzzy state observer is designed for estimating the unmeasured states. On the basis of the state observer and applying the backstepping technique, an adaptive fuzzy observer control approach is developed. The main features of the proposed adaptive fuzzy control approach not only guarantees that all the signals of the closed-loop system are semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded, but also contain less adaptation parameters to be updated on-line. Remote control process system with distributed time-delay has attracted much attention in different fields.In this paper,non-linear remote control of a single tank process system with wireless network is considered.To deal with the distributed time-delay in a large-scale plant,the time-delay compensation controller based on DCS devices is designed by using operator theory and particle filter.Distributed control system(DCS)device is developed to monitor and control from the central monitoring room to each process.The particle filter is a probabilistic method to estimate unobservable information from observable information.First,remote control system and experimental equipment are introduced.Second,control system based on an operator theory is designed.Then,process system with distributed time-delay using particle filter is carried out.Finally,the actual experiment is conducted by using the proposed time-delay compensation controller.When estimating with the proposed method,the result is close to the case in which the distributed time-delay does not exist.The effectiveness of the proposed control system is confirmed by experiment results. 展开更多

The state feedback control law is obtained by solving convex optimization of a set of LMIs. Sufficient condition for stability and a new upper bound on robust performance index are given for these kinds of uncertain fuzzy systems with state time-delay. The nonlinear uncertainties of the systems under study are bounded by high- order polynomial functions with unknown gains. Firstly, the adaptive feedback controller which can guarantee the stability of the closed-loop system in the sense of uniform ultimate boundedness is proposed. Then the proposed adaptive idea is extended to robust stabilizing designing method for a class of large-scale interconnected systems. Here, another problem we address is to design a decentralized feedback adaptive controller such that the closed-loop system is stable in the sense of uniform ultimate boundedness for all admissible uncertainties and time-delay. Unknown time-delay functions are approximated by NNs, such that the requirement on the nonlinear time-delay functions is relaxed. Based on Lyapunov-Krasoviskii functional, the sem-global uniformly ultimately boundedness (UUB) of all the signals in the closed-loop system is proved. An adaptive iterative learning control scheme is presented for a class of strict-feedback nonlinear time-delay systems, with unknown nonlinearly parameterised and time-varying disturbed functions of known periods. Radial basis function neural network and Fourier series expansion (FSE) are combined into a new function approximator to model each suitable disturbed function in systems. The requirement of the traditional iterative learning control algorithm on the nonlinear functions (such as global Lipschitz condition) is relaxed. Furthermore, by using appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals, all signs in the closed loop system are guaranteed to be semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded, and the output of the system is proved to converge to the desired trajectory. With consideration that the controller parameters may vary from the designed value when the controller is realized, based on Lyapunov stability theory, a design method of nonfragile guaranteed cost control for a class of Delta operator-formulated uncertain time-delay systems is studied. A sufficient condition for the existence of the nonfragile guaranteed cost controller is given. A numeric example is then given to illustrate the effectiveness and the feasibility of the designed method. The results show that even if the parameters of the designed controller are of variations, the closed-loop system is still asymptotically stable and the super value of the cost function can also be obtained, while the closed-loop system will be unstable if the variations of the controller parameters are not considered when the controller is designed. The nonfragile guaranteed cost controller derived from the traditional shift operator method may cause the closed-loop system to be unstable, while the nonfragile guaranteed cost controller based on Delta operator method can avoid the unstable problem of the closed-loop system. 展开更多

The traditional passive absorber is fully effective within a narrow and certain frequency band.To solve this problem,a time-delayed acceleration feedback is introduced to convert a passive absorber into an active one.Both the inherent and the intentional time delays are included.The former mainly comes from signal acquiring and processing,computing,and applying the actuation force,and its value is fixed.The latter is introduced in the controller,and its value is actively adjustable.Firstly,the mechanical model is established and the frequency response equations are obtained.The regions of stability are delineated in the plane of control parameters.Secondly,the design scheme of control parameters is performed to help select the values of the feedback gain and time delay.Thirdly,the experimental studies are conducted.Effects of both negative and positive feedback control are investigated.Experimental results show that the proper choices of control parameters may broaden the effective frequency band of vibration absorption.Moreover,the time-delayed absorber greatly suppresses the resonant response of the primary system when the passive absorber totally fails.The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions and numerical simulations. 展开更多

When the states of system cannot be observed, the time-delay state observer is designed to estimate the system states. Domination method is used to deal with nonlinear time-delay function under the assumption that the nonlinear time-delay functions of systems satisfy Lipschitz condition. The global asymptotical tracking of the reference signal is achieved and the bound of all signals of the resultant closed-loop system is also guaranteed.
