First, the layered half-space is discretized on the basis of the propagation characteristic of elastic wave according to the Snell law. Then, the finite element method with lumped mass and the central difference method are incorporated to establish 2D wave motion equations, which can be transformed into 1D equations by discretization principle and explicit finite element method. By solving the 1D equations, the displacements of nodes in any vertical line can be obtained, and the wave motions in layered half-space are finally determined based on the characteristic of traveling wave. Both the theoretical analysis and the numerical results demonstrate that the proposed method has high accuracy and good stability.展开更多

The method involves the application of Taylor series expansions and the use of perturbation procedure to establish the corresponding boundary value problems with respect to a time-independent fluid domain. A boundary element method based on B-spline expansion is used to calculate the wave field at each time step, and the free surface boundary condition is satisfied to the second order of wave steepness by a numerical integration in time. An artificial damping layer is adopted on the free surface for the removal of wave reflection from the outer boundary. As an illustration, the method is used to compute the second-order wave forces and run-up on a surface-piercing circular cylinder. The present method is found to be accurate, computationally efficient, and numerically stable.展开更多

The weather vane effect of a single-point mooring system normally results in the satisfactory hydrodynamic performance of the side-by-side configuration in head seas. Nevertheless, the changes in wave directions in real sea conditions can significantly influence the relative motions. This article studies the relative motions of the side-by-side system by using the theoretical analysis method and the numerical calculation method. Based on the three-dimensional potential theory modified by artificial damping-lid method, the frequency-domain hydrodynamic coefficients can be improved to calculate the retardation functions for the multi-body problem. An in-house code is then developed to perform the time-domain simulation of two vessels, through which the relative motions are subsequently obtained. A range of oblique waves are chosen for the extensive calculation of relative motions between the two vessels, which are further analyzed in terms of the phase shift of motion responses induced by specific resonant wave patterns. Investigation results show that wave directions have a significant influence on the relative sway, roll, and yaw motions. Under the circumstance that the absolute phase shift between the roll motions of two vessels approaches 180°, stronger relative motions are induced when LNGC is on the weather side. Moreover, the gap water resonances at high frequencies tend to cause the dangerous opposed oscillation of two vessels in the sway and yaw modes, whereas FLNG reduces the gap water resonances and relative motions when located on the weather side.展开更多

Validation of the present method is performed by comparing the results with those obtained by an analytical method for a homogeneous plasma slab. Then the effects of parameters of THz wave and plasma layer on the propagation properties are analyzed. It is found that the transmission coefficients greatly depend on the incident angle as well as on the thickness of the plasma, while the polarization of the incident wave has little influence on the propagation process in the range of frequency considered in this paper. The results confirm that the THz wave can pass through the plasma sheath effectively under certain conditions, which makes it a potential candidate to overcome the ionization blackout problem.展开更多

In the model, the velocity potential was decomposed into the incident potential and unknown scattered potential which was obtained by solving the boundary integral equation. The fourth-order predict-correct method was applied to enforce the free surface conditions in the time integration. The influence of the wave direction on the first and second-order gap surface elevations was investigated. The results reveal that the incident wave angle does not affect the resonant wave frequency and the maximum surface elevation at resonance always occurs at the middle location along the gap. However, the corresponding maximum wave surface elevation at resonance varies with the incident wave angle. The location of the maximum wave elevation shifts either upstream or downstream along the gap, depending on the relative magnitude of incident wave frequency to the resonant frequency.展开更多

The movement of ionized atoms, particles and electrons seems to be the underlying cause. Expansion of the detonation products (DP) drives a strong (~1 kb) shock in surrounding air. This forms an intense thermal wave (T ~11,000 K) with duration of ~20 microseconds. Such temperatures create significant ionization of the air. According to Ohm’s Law, movement of ionized patches generates current;and according to the Biot-Savart Law, such currents induce electric and magnetic fields. We investigate these effects through numerical simulations of TNT explosions. A high-order Godunov scheme is used to integrate the one-dimensional conservation laws of gasdynamics. An extremely fine grid (10 microns) was needed to get converged temperature and conductivity profiles. The gasdynamic solution provided a source current, which was fed into a time-domain Green’s function code to predict three-dimensional electromagnetic waves emanating from the TNT explosion. This analysis clearly demonstrates one mechanism—the Boronin current—as the source of EM emissions from TNT explosions, but other mechanisms are also possible.展开更多

The incident wave can be defined by any suitable wave theory and here defined by a fully nonlinear numerical wave model. After verifying the present computations results in its degenerated linearized version against the usual linear 3D Green function–based frequency-domain results for air gap predictions, systematic comparative studies are undertaken between linear and the approximate nonlinear solutions. It is found that nonlinear computations can yield considerably conservative predictions as compared to fully linear calculations, amounting to a difference of up to 30%–40% in the minimum air gap in steep ambient incident waves at high and moderate frequencies.展开更多

METHODS: Pulmonary artery (PA) flow and pressure were recorded in six anesthetized sheep. Acute iso- baric PH was induced by phenylephrine (active) and PA mechanical constriction (passive). We estimated the amplitude of the forward and reflected pressure waves according to the inflection point. In most cases the in- flection pressure was smooth, thus the inflection point was defined as the time at which the first derivative ofpulmonary arterial pressure reached its first minimum. We calculated the input and characteristic (Z C , time- domain Li method) impedances, the capacitance index (stroke volume/pulse pressure), the augmentation index (AI) (reflected pressure/pulse pressure), the frac- tional pulse pressure (pulse pressure/mean pressure) and the wasted energy generated by the RV due to wave reflection during ejection (E W ). RESULTS: Pulse pressure, fractional pulse pressure, AI and Z C increased and capacitance index decreased during passive PH with respect to control (P < 0.05). In contrast, Z C and the capacitance index did not change and E W and the AI decreased during active PH. Pulse pressure correlated with E W and Z C and the AI was cor- related with E W (r > 0.6, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: PA pressure waveform analysis al- lows the quantification of the dynamic RV afterload. Prospective clinical studies will be necessary to validate this time-domain approach to evaluate the dynamic RV afterload in chronic PH.展开更多

Prospective clinical studies will be necessary to validate this time-domain approach to evaluate the dynamic RV afterload in chronic PH.

文摘A 2D time domain boundary element method(BEM)is developed to solve the transient scattering of plane waves by a unilaterally frictionally constrained inclusion.Coulomb friction is assumed along the contact interface. The incident wave is assumed strong enough so that localized slip and separation take place along the interface. The present problem is in effect a nonlinear boundary value problem since the mixed boundary conditions involve unknown intervals (slip, separation and stick regions). In order to determine the unknown intervals,an iterative technique is developed. As an example,we consider the scattering of a circular cylinder embedded in an infinite solid.

文摘An improved three-dimensional(3D)time-domain couple model is established in this paper to simulate the bidirectional vortex-induced vibration(VIV)of a deepwater steep wave riser(SWR)subjected to oblique currents. In this model, the nonlinear motion equations of the riser are established in the global coordinate system based on the slender rod theory with the finite element method.Van der Pol equations are used to describe the lift forces induced by the x-and y-direction current components, respectively. The coupled equations at each time step are solved by a Newmark-βiterative scheme for the SWR VIV.The present model is verified by comparison with the published experimental results for a top-tension riser. Then,a series of simulations are executed to determine the influences of the oblique angle/velocity of the current, different top-end positions and the length of the buoyancy segment on the VIV displacement, oscillating frequency as well as hydrodynamic coefficients of the SWR.The results demonstrate that there exists a coupled resonant VIV corresponding to x-direction and y-direction,respectively.However,the effective frequency is almost identical between the vibrations at the hang-off segment along x and y directions. The addition of the buoyancy modules in the middle of the SWR has a beneficial impact on the lift force of three segments and simultaneously limits the VIV response, especially at the decline segment and the hang-off segments.Additionally, the incident current direction significantly affects the motion trajectory of the SWR which mainly includes the fusiform and rectangle shapes.
