Reform of Hospitality English Teaching Based on the Educational Concept of Outcome-Based Education(OBE)

The Outcome-Based Education(OBE)educational concept,proposed by renowned American educator Spady,aims to guide students in mastering learning laws and ultimately achieving expected learning outcomes.The application of OBE educational concept in Hospitality English curriculum not only can effectively enhance the learning effect but also promote the reform of the Hospitality English curriculum,thus improving students’learning enthusiasm.Therefore,taking the Hospitality English curriculum as an example,this paper points out the existing problems in the teaching of this course and suggests the reform measures based on the OBE teaching concept,hoping to provide guidelines for related educational work.

Imperatives for Teacher Empowerment in Devising Extension Education as Part of the Holistic Curriculum for Hospitality and Tourism Domains： A Conceptual Study in Indian Context

The role of educator or teacher in the Indian context is circumscribed by the objective of social transformation as articulated in the Indian National Movement and later enshrined in the Preamble to the Indian Constitution, in the Fundamental Rights, and in the Directive Principles of State Policy. Extension, which is the additional dimension of professional practice among teachers at higher education, can be used as a revolutionary tool to modify the existing slogan of ＂education for all＂ to ＂education for all and forever＂, thereby making the ＂lifelong education＂ a reality. This conceptual paper addresses the twin needs of preparing the students for individual growth as also to facilitate them to contribute to social development. It focuses on the inclusion of the measures required to be taken for providing social consciousness and sensitivity, as this happens to be a neglected part of the curriculum. The extra effort so needed to build community-based activities presupposes the requirement for professional training to be given to the hospitality and tourism educators as a continuing education initiative.

Analysis of Higher Tourism and Hospitality Education in China

Tourism education plays an important role in supporting tourism development and providing qualified employees to meet the great demands in China. A lack of high quality educators and employees is a common concern of Chinese tourism and hospitality education. The role of higher tourism and hospitality education has become more and more important for Chinese tourism and hospitality education. The purpose of this study was to analyze the situation of Chinese higher tourism and hospitality education and to identify the constraints and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of it.The results suggest three main existing problems of current Chinese higher tourism and hospitality education: lack of practical training occurred both in teaching activity and the quality of teachers; poor curriculum design particularly the unbalance of theory and practice; and teachers require further study especially practical training and work experience.

Investigating the Correlation between Patient Education on Web-Based Portal Functionality and the Reduction in 30-Day Hospital Readmission Rates

Background: The growing use of web-based patient portals offers patients valuable tools for accessing health information, communicating with healthcare providers, and engaging in self-management. However, the influence of educating patients on these portals’ functionality on clinical outcomes, such as all-cause readmission rates, remains underexplored. Objective: This research proposal tested the hypothesis that educating a subset of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), on how to effectively access and utilize the functionality of web-based patient portals can reduce all-cause readmission rates. Methods: We performed a prospective, quasi-experimental study at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, USA;dividing participants into an intervention group, receiving education about accessing and navigating “My Chart”, the Bon Secours Web based portal, and a control group, receiving standard care. We then compared 30-day readmission rates, patient engagement, and self-management behaviors between the groups. Data was analyzed using statistical tests to assess the intervention’s impact. Results: We projected that educated patients will exhibit lower readmission rates, improved engagement, and better self-management. The results of the study showed that there was a significant decrease in 30-day readmissions in the intervention group in comparison with the control group (22.7% and 40.9%, respectively). This reduction of 18. 2% of readmissions evaluated here for a trial of meaningful clinical effect is statistically insignificant (p = 0. 184). The practical significance of the intervention is considered small-to-moderate (Cramer V = 0. 20) suggesting that the observed difference has a potential clinical importance even though the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: These results imply that the proposed educational intervention might have a positive impact on readmissions;nonetheless, the patient’s characteristics that make him or her capable of readmission cannot be changed and are assessed by the RoR (Risk of Readmission) score. The potential impact of the intervention may be offset, in part, by these baseline risk factors. The study’s power may be limited by sample size, potentially affecting the detection of significant differences. Future studies with larger, multi-center samples and longer follow-up periods are recommended to confirm these findings.

Research on the Reform Path of Ideological and Political Education in Tourism English Courses in Higher Vocational Education

Tourism English in higher vocational education has profound humanistic,strong professional orientation,and instrumental characteristics.Through analyzing the current situation of ideological and political teaching in Tourism English courses in higher vocational education,it is found that there are too few ideological and political elements in the curriculum,the skills teaching and ideological education are not unified,and the ideological and political education in the curriculum tends to be empty preaching.The reasons for this are the weak ideological and political awareness of teachers,the emphasis on skills in textbooks over ideological and political education,and the conservatism of teaching methods.Based on the requirements of curriculum ideological and political education and teaching reform,a teaching reform practice path is constructed from four aspects:anchoring curriculum ideological and political goals,improving teachers’ideological and political awareness and educational ability,creating ideological and political-oriented textbook resources,and integrating ideological and political teaching methods through multiple channels throughout the entire process,in order to cultivate students with patriotism,international vision,and professional skills.

Education of Hospitalized Diabetic Patients: Analysis of Training Needs among Nurses in a Lebanese Hospital - A Secondary Publication

The design of diabetes inpatient educational preparation should be based on the needs of the nurses involved in terms of skills in this area. The objective of this qualitative study is to identify the preparatory needs of nurses working in the medical and surgical units of a Lebanese hospital in terms of Survival Skills Education for Hospitalized Diabetic Patients (SSEHDP). Method: The focus group method is used for data collection using a semi-structured interview guide. The needs expressed by the thirty-two participating nurses were classified into categories of the competency framework for providing self-management education to diabetic patients proposed by the American Diabetes Association. Results: By focusing on the themes of an SSEHDP, a list of preparatory needs was drawn up. The needs identified and analyzed are then translated into general and specific learning objectives for educational preparation. Conclusion: The needs analysis is only the first step in a work that will ideally continue into the implementation and eventual evaluation of an educational program developed to help nurses acquire skills in the education of diabetic patients.

Financial Sustainability of the Japanese Medical Payment System: Analysis of the Japanese Medical Expenditure for Educational Hospitalization of Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Japanese medical expenditures have increased rapidly in recent years and are predicted to continue rising. Indeed, it remains uncertain whether the current Japanese medical system can be sustained. In this paper, we analyzed the medical expenditures for educational hospitalization of patients with type 2 diabetes. A dataset of 6173 patients from 36 hospitals was used in the analysis. The sample period was from July 2008 to March 2012. We analyzed the medical expenditures in two ways. First, we analyzed the length of hospital stay (LOS). Next, we analyzed the daily expenditure per patient. The Box-Cox transformation model was used in the first analysis and the ordinary least squares method in the second. Comorbidities and complications prolonged LOS and increased daily expenditures. The LOS was significantly different among hospitals. On the other hand, the differences in daily expenditures among hospitals were relatively small, such that LOS was the main determinant of medical expenditures. Previous studies suggested that LOS could be shortened without degradation of medical quality. Moreover, LOS could be controlled by introducing proper critical paths and improving and standardizing educational programs. Hence, it would be possible to control the medical expenditures for this disease.

In this paper, we conduct research on the current condition of college tourism personnel training mode and vocational education reforms. Paying attention to the current social development innovation spirit, how to make students possess the necessary ability to innovate, is this the prime problem of the education. A lot of highly educated personnel in order to better adapt to social development and changes, constantly to learn knowledge, also has the characteristics of vocational college students. Our research combines the characteristics of the college tourism personnel training mode with the education reform which will enhance the performance of the teaching process.

A Study of Sports Hospitality at the Rugby World Cup 2019 for a Tourism Experience Product: A Consideration from the Viewpoint of Eliminating Overtourism in Spectator Sports

In this research project,we focus on sports hospitality at the Rugby World Cup 2019 as a practical example of the qualitative pursuit of sports tourism in the Japanese tourism industry.STH Japan K.K.,Japan’s first company specializing in sports hospitality,hosted the first mega sports event held in Japan.A similar spectator service will next be implemented at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.Sports hospitality is a new way to enjoy watching sports by adding a meal and entertainment before and after the match to the event ticket.Positioning and using sports hospitality as a tourism experience product,we can use qualitatively designed creative and effective methods that professional human resources could provide to tourists.This research project provides an overview of tourism experience products,looks at their economic effects at the Rugby World Cup 2019,and the sales results of the sports hospitality at the event.I conducted an observation survey at the Rugby World Cup 2019 Scotland vs.Samoa match held at Misaki Park Stadium(Kobe,Hyogo)on September 30,2019 focusing only on tourism products in that framework.I also conducted a qualitative survey on March 18,2020 in a semi-structured interview format with STH Japan K.K.senior advisors.The research results revealed the possibility of eliminating overtourism in spectator sports and the lack of sports hospitality spaces in Japan.Usually,when watching a sports match where many spectators gather,the uniform start and end times cause crowding and overtourism.The conventional challenge has been to create tourism products that reduce congestion and provide an enjoyable tourism experience.Sports hospitality is effective for relieving the stress caused by overtourism in spectator sports.In order to solve the shortage of sports hospitality spaces,one issue to consider is the deregulation by the government.

Evaluation Model of Residents' Hospitality in Tourism Destination

The hospitality spirit of tourism destination is one of the sources of destination comparative advantage,and it is also an important factor affecting the quality of destination products.From the perspective of tourists’ perception,analytic hierarchy process is used to construct the evaluation model of residents’ hospitality in tourism destination from two aspects:the behavioral expression of individual hospitality and the atmosphere performance of social hospitality.The research could provide reference basis for managers evaluating the hospitality of residents in tourism destinations.

British Tourism Higher Education Curriculum and Education System—Taking the University of Surrey as an Example

A reasonable curriculum system and teaching content can make the talent training of tourism higher education institutions more in line with the needs of the tourism industry.As the birthplace of the world's modern tourism industry,the UK has always been at the forefront of tourism development and has become the pillar of the UK.The industry and the tourism industry have a large number of talents.It can be seen that the tourism higher education in the UK must have certain characteristics and advantages to support the development of its tourism industry.Therefore,this paper takes the comparatively mature university of the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom as an example.Through the analysis of the education system and curriculum of the tourism-related departments,it is found that the curriculum of tourism higher education in British universities and the characteristics of the education system.And through this analysis,it provides a reference for China's tourism higher education.

How Do Hospitality and Tourism Undergraduate Students Learn？ From a Perspective of Learning Styles

This theoretical paper presents the influence of learning styles and culture values on facilitating undergraduate students＇ learning. Learning styles describe the way people process information. Many learning style inventories have been developed and applied widely, for example, Kolb＇s Learning Style Inventory （LSI） and Honey and Mumford＇s Learning Styles Questionnaire （LSQ）. However, limited research has been conducted in the field of hospitality and tourism higher education, particularly in eastern culture. Past research in the hospitality and tourism higher education did not reveal if certain learning styles can contribute to better learning outcomes, however, there is a significant difference in preferred learning styles of students in terms of different cultural values. Therefore, it makes it pivotal to consider the influence of culture difference when examining how learning styles contribute to better learning outcomes in future research. Therefore, hospitality and tourism educators can properly plan useful strategies to accommodate different learning styles and enhance students＇ learning.

Research on the Educational Issues of the Emerging Tourism Industry in Developing Countries

This research explores emerging concepts of tourism education,training,and entrepreneurship development.Nowadays,the discourses on this theme have been growing in both developed and developing countries,especially to reduce unemployment rates through the education of young people.For this purpose,this study uses secondary data sources to analyze individual rationality and the creativity of educated young people for entrepreneurship development in the business sector.The analytical framework begins from the investigation of the tourism industry and the processes for empowering those people since tourism industry is considered as one of the agents of economic changes in developing countries,such as Nepal.However,skilled and trained manpower are required to operate well.The main theme of this study is that the aforesaid manpower can be developed with entrepreneurship skills by providing education and training in this business.This study entirely agrees that once the tourism industry is well run by removing the hurdles seen in this sector,there would be an increase in employment opportunities and a raise in the country’s revenue in addition to solving many other social problems.
