Thorium-229 possesses the lowest first nuclear excited state,with an energy of approximately 8 eV.The extremely narrow linewidth of the first nuclear excited state,with an uncertainty of 53 THz,prevents direct laser e...Thorium-229 possesses the lowest first nuclear excited state,with an energy of approximately 8 eV.The extremely narrow linewidth of the first nuclear excited state,with an uncertainty of 53 THz,prevents direct laser excitation and realization of the nuclear clock.We present a proposal using the Coulomb crystal of a linear chain formed by229Th^(3+)ions,where the nuclei of229Th3+ions in the ion trap are excited by the electronic bridge(EB)process.The 7 P1∕2state of the thorium-229 nuclear ground state is chosen for EB excitation.Using the two-level optical Bloch equation under experimental conditions,we calculate that 2 out of 36 prepared thorium ions in the Coulomb crystal can be excited to the first nuclear excited state,and it takes approximately 2 h to scan over an uncertainty of 0.22 eV.Taking advantage of the transition enhancement of EB and the long stability of the Coulomb crystal,the energy uncertainty of the first excited state can be limited to the order of 1 GHz.展开更多
This study intends to examine the problems that affected non-English major freshmen’s motivation and the potential factors that could influence their motivation, intrinsic or extrinsic. Self-report data were collecte...This study intends to examine the problems that affected non-English major freshmen’s motivation and the potential factors that could influence their motivation, intrinsic or extrinsic. Self-report data were collected from 188 freshmen selected randomly in Nanchang College by using a close-ended questionnaire. Qualitative results came from interviews with 8 freshmen and 5 teachers. Findings provide evidence that some problems, which emerge with the transition from middle school to college, will influence students’ motivation. Meanwhile, intrinsic motivation can be boosted if the factors of goal, attitude, self-confidence, self-determination, learning environment, learning strategies, teaching methods are valued by teachers.展开更多
In this paper, bridge alignment control with considering dynamic train loads was experimentally and theoretically investigated.Analytical process of bridge dynamics and the self-adaptive Kalman filter bridge alignment...In this paper, bridge alignment control with considering dynamic train loads was experimentally and theoretically investigated.Analytical process of bridge dynamics and the self-adaptive Kalman filter bridge alignment control method with considering the dynamic train loads were briefly introduced. The static measurement, the dynamic test, the field alignment measurement as well as the finite element analysis(FEA) of the second longest rail transit cable-stayed bridge in the world were carried out.Based on the results, the train dynamic load effect on the bridge alignment was obtained quantitatively. Subsequently, alignment control of the rail transit bridge with considering this effect using a self-adaptive Kalman filter method was analyzed. The results show that:(a) the dynamic train loads have effects on alignment control of the bridge and therefore cannot be neglected;(b) the self-adaptive Kalman filter method is applicable and reliable for alignment control of bridges during construction. The analytical method and whole process contribute to develop a related specification and further engineering applications.展开更多
