The oxygenation constants and thermodynamic parameter (ΔHo, ΔSo) of Co (II) complexes with unsymmetrical bis-Schiff baeses were measured and their Mn(III) complexes as models of mimicking monooxygenase were employed to catalyze epoxidation of styrene. The effect of substituent R in a salicylidene of ML1~ML4 [ M = Co (II), Mn (III)Cl ] on the dioxygen affinities and biomimetic catalytic oxidation performance were also investigated. Among them, the MnL4Cl containing a pendant benzoaza crown ether ring showed highest conversion and selectiviy up to 54.9% and 96.9% respectively. 展开更多

The Schiff base ligand was checked by infrared, electronic spectra and 1HNMR spectroscopy and prepared complexes characterized by molar conductivity, infrared, electronic spectra and susceptibility measurements. The values of molar conductivities reveal that the complexes are non-electrolytes, from obtained data of electronic spectra and magnetic moment, an octahedral geometry was suggested, coordinated to the metal ions in a manner with N donor sites of imine groups, and oxygen of phenolic OH group. 展开更多

Objective: A series of 2-benzylideneaminonaphthothiazoles were designed and synthesized incorporating the lipophilic naphthalene ring to render them more capable of penetrating various biomembranes. Methods: Schiff bases were synthesized by the reaction of naphtha[1,2-d]thiazol-2-amine with various substituted aromatic aldehydes. 2-(2'-Hydroxy)ben- zylideneaminonaphthothiazole was converted to its Co(Ⅱ), Ni(Ⅱ) and Cu(Ⅱ) metal complexes upon treatment with metal salts in ethanol. All the compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial activities by paper disc diffusion method with Gram positive Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis and Gram negative Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of all the Schiff bases and metal complexes were determined by agar streak dilution method. Results: All the compounds moderately inhibited the growth of Cram positive and Gram negative bacteria. In the present study among all Schiff bases 2-(2'-hydroxy)benzylideneaminonaphthothiazole showed maximum inhibitory activity and among metal complexes Cu(Ⅱ) metal complex was found to be most potent. Conclusion: The results obtained validate the hypothesis that Schiff bases having substitution with halogens, hydroxyl group and nitro group at phenyl ring are required for the antibacterial activity while methoxy group at different positions in the aromatic ring has minimal role in the inhibitory activity. The results also indicated that the metal complexes are better antibacterial agents as compared to the Schiff bases. 展开更多

A novel, simple approach to the synthesis of macrocyclic Schiff base ligand resulted from the condensation of bisaldehyde and ethylenediamine was prepared (7, 8, 15, 16, 17, 18-hexahydrodibenzo (a, g) (14) annulene) (L) and its complexes were synthesized and characterized using different physicochemical studies as elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR, conductivity, magnetic properties, thermal analysis, and their biological activities. The spectroscopic data of the complexes suggest their 1:1 complexe structures which are investigated by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR, conductivity, magnetic properties, thermal analysis, and their biological activities. The spectroscopic studies suggested the octahedral structure for the all complexes. The spectroscopic data of the complexes suggest their structure in which (N2O2) group act as a tetradentate ligand and two chlorides as monodentate ligands. Also electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate octahedral structure of these complexes. The synthesized Schiff base and its metal complexes also were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activity. Here we report the effect of a neutral chelating ligand on the complexation with iron to determine it in different types of natural water using recovery test. The activity data show that the metal complexes to be more potent/ antibacterial than the parent Schiff base ligand against one or more bacterial species. 展开更多

Seven kinds of Schiff base metal complexes(C1-C7)were synthesized by the reaction of substituted salicylaldehyde Schiff base with cobalt nitrate,nickel nitrate,and copper nitrate,respectively.The oxygen carrying performance,and the catalytic property of complexes for the oxidation of model sulfides 1-hexanethiol,dibutyl sulfide,and 2-methylthiophene along with their influencing factors were explored,while the oxidized products of the model sulfides were also analyzed and characterized.The results show that the catalytic oxidation property of the complexes is determined by their oxygen carrying performance and solubility in n-octane.The oxygen carrying performance of the complexes is mainly affected by the central ion species,the electronic effects,and the spatial effects of the substituents as well as the degree of conjugation.More specifically,the oxygen carrying performance can be improved by enhancing the oxygenation capacity of the central metal ions,increasing the electron donating ability of the ligand substituent,and diminishing the steric hindrance as well as extending the conjugated chain.Complexes C7 were found to be with high oxygen carrying capacity and high solubility in n-octane,which shows the best catalytic oxidation property,and the oxidation conversion rates for 1-hexylthiol,dibutyl sulfide,and 2-methylthiophene are 74.2%,65.1%,and 22.7%,respectively.Upon using the oxidation catalyst of Schiff base metal complexes,three sulfides can be oxidized by oxygen to form sulfones and sulfoxides.1-Hexanethiol and dibutyl sulfide will continue to be oxidized to form sulfates and sulfites. 展开更多

The BSA binding metal complexes were characterized by UV-vis spectra and Native PAGE. It showed that the protein structures of BSA kept after coordinating amino acid Schiff-bases metal complexes. The electronic spectra of the metal complexes and their magnetic susceptibility measurements suggest octahedral structures are the probable coordination geometries for the isolated complexes. Many metal complexes of Schiff base derived from different amino acids are widely employed as biologically active materials, especially as antibacterial agents. Three new metal [Co(III), Mn(II) and La(III)] complexes with the Schiff base (L) derived from salicylaldehyde and amino acid (methionine) were synthesized and investigated by using various physico-chemical techniques such as elemental analysis, FTIR, UV-visible spectroscopy, magnetic measurement, thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) method. From spectral studies, it has been concluded that the synthesized ligand acts as a tetra-dentate molecule, coordinates metal through azomethine nitrogen, sulfur, phenolic oxygen and carboxylate oxygen. UV-visible spectrophotometry showed the characteristic absorption bands corresponding to a square planar geometry for La(III) and Mn(II) metal complexes and tetrahedral geometry for Co(III) complex. The XRD data demonstrated that the manganese and cobalt complexes were crystalline but the lanthanum complex was amorphous in nature. The empirical formula of the synthesized complexes based on analytical data were [Co(C12H13SNO3)]·(NO3), [La(C12H13SNO3)](Cl)(H2O) and [Mn (C12H13SNO3)]. 展开更多

Understanding excited state and reaction intermediate during light irradiation to return to ground state may be important for such composite systems. Therefore, we investigated such optical properties for systems using time-resolved luminescence and transient absorption measurements. DMSO solutions of the four newly prepared and characterized complexes (<strong>MMn</strong><strong>, MZn, CMn,</strong> and <strong>CZn</strong>) and ethanol solutions of the composite materials of each complex with AgNPs were served for optical measurements. The time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC), the streak camera which is much shorter period of time than TCSPC and transient absorption measurement, was performed for the eight samples. The fluorescence lifetime of the sole complexes and the composite materials with AgNPs was derived from curve-fitting analysis of luminescence decay curves of TCSPC. Lifetime of the composite systems with AgNPs was longer than that of the corresponding sole metal complexes for three cases. The characterization of metal complexes is based on the results of the solubility, colour, melting points and elemental analysis as well as the spectroscopic studies. The results obtained from the spectroscopic spectra revealed from the UV-visible showed the presence of chromophoric groups while the FTIR results confirmed that the metals coordinated through the two nitrogen atoms of Sulfadiazine Schiff base and sulphur atom of the N-phenyl dithiocarbamate. Also the antimicrobial activities of the metal complexes proved that the metal complexes are more active than the parent ligands. 展开更多

The polymer-bound Schiff base ternary manganese complexes [PS-SalPhe-Mn-L(L=Phen, Bipy and 8HQ)] have been prepared from the polymer-bound Schiff base ligand, a manganese salt and the second ligand, such as 1,10-phenanthroline(phen), 2,2′-bipyridyl(bipy) and 8-quinolinol(8HQ). The polymer-bound Schiff base ternary manganese complexes were characterized by means of infrared spectrometry and ICP-AES. The catalytic activities of the complexes have been studied in the aerobic epoxidation of long-chain linear aliphatic olefins. It is shown that 1-octene or 1-decene can be directly oxidized by molecular oxygen when catalyzed by PS-SalPhe-Mn-L(L=Phen, Bipy and 8HQ), and 1,2-epoxy alkane can be afforded in these reactions. 展开更多

The synthesized ligands and complexes were characterized by spectroscopic(FT-IR,UV–Vis,~1H-NMR and mass spectrometry), thermal(TGA) and elemental analysis. The structures of the complexes were verified by evaluating their magnetic susceptibility and spectroscopic evidences. Synthesized complexes were studied for their catalytic activity in the Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling of aryl halides with phenylboronic acid. Optimized reaction yields 90% of the cyanobiphenyl for complex 1 and 91% for complex 2 with 0.1 mmol of catalyst loading thereby substantiating the C\\C coupling efficiency of the synthesized complexes, 1 and 2. 展开更多

The structures of 1~4 were characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis. The magnetic properties of these four complexes are investigated. The dc magnetic measurements indicate that the metal ions of 1, 2 and 3 are in the low spin state, revealing the strong ligand field character of 1-amino-2-indanol. This work provides an effective approach to coordination complexes possessing low spin state metal centers. 展开更多

We have prepared new chiral Schiff base complexes, and copper(Ⅱ) (2) to investigate steric effect of ligands for 1 and bis(N-R-l-phenylethyl-5- methoxysalicydenaminato) nickel(Ⅱ) (1) 2 and known bis(N-R-l-phenylethyl-3,5-dichlorosalicydenaminato) nickel(Ⅱ) (3) and copper(Ⅱ) (4). By using two kinds of photochromic dyes, disperse red 1 (DRI) and azobenzene (AZ), we investigated the efficiency of increasing optical anisotropy of organic/inorganic hybrid materials of 1 through 4+AZ or DRI+PMMA in polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) cast films by Weigert effect (and compared with cis-trans isomerization by alternate UV and visible light for 3 and 4 to previous study). Gradual increase of optical anisotropy was observed for all the hybrid materials regardless of flexibility of Schiff base complexes, and the degree of dichroism and weak intermolecular interactions were discussed based on polarized absorption electronic spectra. 展开更多
