In the 21st century,the development of digital and new media technologies has ushered in an age of pervasive multimodal communication,which has significantly amplified the role of multimodal translation in facilitating crosscultural exchanges.Despite the profound impact of these developments,the prevailing translation pedagogy remains predominantly focused on the enhancement of linguistic translation skills,with noticeable neglect of the imperative to cultivate students’competencies in multimodal translation.Based on the distinctive characteristics and challenges that multimodal translation presents in the context of new media,this study delves into the formulation of educational objectives and curriculum design for the training of multimodal translators.The intent is to propose a framework that can guide the preparation of translators who are adept and equipped to navigate the complexities and demands of the contemporary age.

Taking Stock of Grammar-Translation Teaching Method in Developing Intercultural Pragmatic Competence

Grammar-translation teaching method(GTTM as a shorthand below) has long been a buzzword when it is adopted in the class of English as a foreign language.It has been universally acknowledged that such teaching method contradicts the development of communicative language competence advocated in recent decades.However,I positively argue that GTTM in English class,as a comparative and intercultural model,should be given a due reconsideration to improve L2 learners' pragmatic competence.

A Survey of the Translation Competence of the Second-Year English Majors in the Era of Machine-Translation

A survey made here aims to help both the educators and learners to improve the education of English majors.By distributing statistical questionnaires and collecting relevant data on translation knowledge,relevant examinations and competitions,this paper evaluates the translation competence of sophomores majoring in English at Northeastern University in China.Advantages together with shortcomings and suggestions are provided for teachers to position their teaching and for students to improve their translation competence.

Instruction of the Multi-dimensional Developing Perspective on Translation in Translation Competence Development

The overlook of the cultivation of learners’perspective on translation is one of the essential reasons that we fail to enhance learners’translation competence effectively and efficiently.The perspective on translation mirrors not only the interpretation of the essence,value,and function of translation,but the interpretation of culture and intercultural communication,which offers inspiration and implication on translation in the current context.This study analyzes the significance of the multi-dimensional developing perspective on translation and elaborates on the HBARP model to integrate the perspective on translation throughout the learning and teaching process to inspire learners to interpret translation essence and features,to highlight the intercultural communicative significance in the current context with a historical vision.

A Brief Introduction of Communicative Translation Teaching Method

The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new translation teaching method which is based on Skopos theory and communicative translation competence training. It makes a brief analysis of the functionalist framework for translation teaching. When more and more universities of China open translation courses for under graduates and postgraduates, it is hoped that this paper could slightly contribute to the translation teaching field.

Cross Cultural Exploration of the Perceived Health Competence Scale

The eight-item Perceived Health Competence Scale (PHCS) is a measure of self-efficacy in general health management that is used to predict health outcomes and behaviors. The PHCS has been shown to be a reliable and valid instrument but has been used in primarily white European Americans. The PHCS is positively correlated to health status and coping abilities. Younger, healthier populations score higher on the PHCS compared to elderly who are managing chronic illness. This study examined the PHCS in three Midwestern samples: African American elders which revealed two separate factors in PHCS;Native Americans who evaluated the PHCS as a single construct;and a Spanish speaking sample. In the latter sample, findings suggest health competence may be a multi-dimensional construct. Further evaluation of the Spanish version of the PHCS and population characteristics are needed to measure health competence beliefs.

Raising International Discourse Rights in Translation and Interpreting Pedagogy

This research project aims at consolidating and revitalizing translation and interpreting pedagogy with dual emphasis on the cultural soft power and international discourse rights of China via emphasizing international competitiveness.In order to realize the significant needs of the current market requirements and the new era of China,this project proposes the“ICC”interpreting training model.It refers to the combination of intercultural communication competency with international competitiveness as the teaching and learning outcomes by means of integrating the following five components in the course content and the whole curriculum design:(1)interpreting competency-bilingual competence and interpreting skill-based training;e.g.,short-term memory and note-taking;(2)national value-strengthening translation and the crucial roles and responsibilities of interpreter trainers and trainees in disseminating national culture;(3)expertise of subject matters-equipping students with expertise for work field and meeting the market requirements;e.g.,specific professional knowledge and jargons demanded by the tasks;(4)professional ethics and image-extra-linguistic knowledge emphasizing a translator’s and an interpreter’s professional code of conduct and ethics in a way that can establish the“iconic”image of a professional interpreter;e.g.,confidentiality,posture,and appearance;(5)practical assessment-evaluation of students’performance in practical translation and interpreting opportunities and/or internship in organizations of various natures according to international standards.This research proposes a new training model to incorporate intercultural communication competency with international competitiveness.The significant role of interpreting pedagogy in contributing to a sound national name is investigated.The new“ICC”model that this research is proposing answers such a call for the significant role of raising cultural soft power and international discourse rights in China.

Application of Lexical Chunk Approach in Translation Teaching

Lexical chunk approach refers to using chunk theory to guide students to establish chunk awareness,and with the help of various teaching methods,to create various opportunities to help students properly use fixed or semi-fixed expressions in communication.Through empirical investigation,it is found that there are problems in College English translation teaching,such as single teaching mode,concepts to be updated,cultural differences and obstacles,etc.This paper conducts in-depth discussion of its impact on college students'ability to translate from Chinese to English.Chunk teaching is helpful in fluency,accuracy and decency of language output.Finally,the author puts forward suggestions such as enhancing the awareness of language blocks,strengthening the accumulation of language blocks,optimizing the design of language block exercises,and attaching importance to the cultivation of learning strategies,so as to effectively improve the translation level of college students.

中国非遗对外翻译传播人才的能力构成要素与培养模式

非物质文化遗产是一个民族的文化、智慧和精神的结晶。如何对外翻译传播非遗,提升中华文化的软实力已成为高校翻译专业不可推卸的责任。基于对外翻译传播的视角,梳理非遗翻译传播的现状及问题,探究非遗翻译传播能力构成要素、传播效果评估方法以及高水平应用型对外翻译传播人才培养模式,有助于实现中华优秀传统文化的国际传播,促进东西方文明的交流与互鉴。

基于生成式人工智能的涉海翻译:优势、挑战与前景

涉海翻译关涉国家海洋形象的构建和国家海洋话语的全球化传播,是国家对外传播中国海洋文化、中国海洋发展方案,推动“一带一路”倡议的重要手段。ChatGPT作为一种新型生成式人智能,拥有强大的语义解析能力、语境理解能力、知识生成能力和多语言支持能力,因此具有优越的自动翻译性能,应用于涉海翻译具有多方面优势。以ChatGPT为例,研究生成式人工智能在涉海翻译方面的应用,分析其翻译机理、优势、挑战和前景,旨在为国家涉海翻译能力建设提供参考。

基于翻译能力构成要素的中医药翻译人才培养路径研究

中医药跨文化传播正面临重大历史机遇,对中医典籍翻译提出了更大需求。然而目前既具备中医知识,又精通双语转换,同时具有综合解决问题能力的复合型翻译人才缺口很大,与中医药文化“走出去”的速度不相匹配,亟待培养翻译人才综合能力,以助力中医典籍翻译与传播。此文在分析已有翻译能力研究的基础上,认为中医翻译能力构成要素应包括译者的双语转换能力、翻译专业知识能力、中医知识和中西医跨文化能力、数字能力、策略能力和心理因素等,并从课程设置、教学内容、教学模式和培养模式、师资培养、教学评价等方面探索中医翻译人才培养的综合路径。

大学英语教学中翻译写作教学模式的有效性——基于CET翻译题成绩的初步实验研究

当前,大学英语四、六级考试汉译英主题倾向于中国文化相关,成为应考难点之一。将翻译写作教学模式运用至大学英语教学,特别是针对CET翻译题型的教学,或能有效应对这一难点。根据一项于独立学院选取非英语专业英语水平相近的两个自然班展开的初步对比实验研究发现,对比实验B班,实验A班采纳翻译写作教学模式,通过句法分析训练、写作与背诵训练、中英语序转换训练、拆句与组句训练,一定程度上消除了应考畏难感,CET4模考成绩较有明显提高,翻译能力有所提升。这一研究结果对大学英语翻译与写作教学均有一定指导意义,扩展了翻译写作学理论的应用范围与研究视野。
