The quality of beef consumed in many countries is questionable due to poor infrastructural development which may results into contamination and bacteriological infection. This study was carried out in Mbeya and Dar es Salaam where data was collected at the dispatch areas of 3 and 6 slaughtering facilities, respectively. At each slaughter facility, 10 vehicles selected randomly, were assessed. The assessment of beef distribution infrastructure was conducted based on 18 quality impacting factors established from the actual observation and literature review and conceptualized carcass distribution model. With exception to water tightness, painting and engine status during carcass loading, all the assessed beef quality impacting parameters were below 50%, indicating that beef distribution in the surveyed facilities were below the specification of food quality. Generally, the assessment of beef transporting facilities in connection to the first hypothesis of this study, indicted very weak compliance with the requirements, signifying that the vehicles are not acceptable for carcass transportation.展开更多

Thus, tire wastes offer good thermal characteristics in resisting frost penetration and have good drainage characteristics, being as permeable as coarse granular soil for fill materials. The many advantages of tire wastes make the material suitable for transportation infrastructure construction in cold regions. Also, tire wastes with high damping prop- erty make them a preferable admixture with sand for transportation infrastructures in seismic regions, This study aimed to determine the seismic performance of certain tire waste-sand mixtures in cold regions. A 70% sand-30% tire crumb mixture by weight (TC30) with a very high damping property was selected for analysis as an engineering material for transportation infrastructure. Small-scale shake-table tests were conducted on this material as well as on a sand-only sample under two different temperatures, 0 ℃ and 20 ℃, to simulate cold-region and moderate-temperature performance, respectively. The 1999 lzmit Earthquake Excitation (EW) (Mw = 7.4) was taken as the input motion. Test results showed that the tire waste-sand mixture at 0 ℃ showed better seismic performance than that at room temperature, suggesting that a tire waste-sand mixture in cold regions may reduce seismic hazards to infrastructure.展开更多

Although the sediment transport in the Yellow River Mouth(YRM) has been observed and modeled intensively since AWSR, but preferentially for the non-storm conditions. In this study, a three-dimensional current-wave-sediment coupled model, DHI-MIKE numerical model, was used to examine the seasonal suspended-sediment transport in the YRM after the AWSR. Results show that the seasonal distribution of suspended-sediments in the YRM is dominated by wind and wave rather than river input. The major transport pathway of suspended-sediments is from the western Laizhou Bay to the Bohai Strait during the winter monsoon, especially in storm events. In addition, about 66% of the river sediments deposit within 30 km of the YRM, which is smaller than previous estimations. It suggests that the YRM has been eroded in recent decades.展开更多

The model was validated using hourly measured data of sediment contents during 25–26, July 1999. The results showed that modeled contents matched well with measured ones and that the modeled top layer distribution agreed with the remotely sensed image of suspended solids in summer. The modeled results showed clearly the layers of sus- pended solids in depth, with larger sediment contents in lower layers though in the interface between salt water and freshwater the lowest contents appeared in middle layer. In overall, the suspended solids inflow from 8 rivers, transport southwestward, and carried by strong coastal flow in Zhujiang River estuary. Contours of sediment contents in the estuary spread further to the open sea during ebb tide rather than flood tide which reflects that the suspended solids in the estuary are land sourced.展开更多

Use of Earth remote sensing (ERS), permitting to obtain information from large areas with a sufficiently high resolution, can provide significant assistance in solving the mentioned problems. This paper discusses the possibility of using various means of remote sensing such as satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), also known as drones, for receiving information in different ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum. The paper states that joint using of both these means gives new possibilities in improving railroad security.展开更多

Since the fossil fuels are being gradually depleted and the global warming phenomena are more and more serious, this article is to construct a low-carbon transport infrastructure for Taiwan by the implementation of energy-saving measures. First of all, via data collection and analysis, we found that the small passenger cars and the large trucks are the largest energy users in the transport sector, due to their high energy intensities and large transport volumes. Therefore, their energy-conserving potentials are the focuses of this study. According to “Top-Down” methodology, the most effective and economical energy-saving strategies for Taiwan’s transport sector are the significant adoptions of rail transport and electrification mode. Whereby, under a maximal energy-saving scenario, comprising of delicate shift of transport volumes, the energy saving potential in the land transport sector of Taiwan is 4914 MLOE (million liters of oil equivalent), which is equivalent to greenhouse gas reduction of 10.56Mt-CO2e approximately with a scale of 45.3% or crediting for 4.1% reduction of national GHG emissions. Finally, we suggest the green transport infrastructure of Taiwan should be mainly comprised of rail transport, electric motorcycles, MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), and EV (Electric Vehicles).展开更多

According to this perspective, the financial earnings resulting from the implementation of transport infrastructure can be captured for its own investment. Given the restrictions of society indebtedness, due to social inequalities, scarcity of resources and insufficient fare collection, with the current financial model for public transport infrastructures, the value capture configures as a strategy to be explored to obtain resources. This paper presents the concept of value capture and its connection and relevance with transport infrastructure financing strategies. Applied to the evaluation of the impacts on the surrounding regions of one of the most significant Brazilian transport projects, the improvement and expansion of Belo Horizonte's metro, the provided value capture outcomes open more realistic perspectives for greater engagement of the Public Sector in such projects.展开更多

文摘This paper uses the HS2 extension cancellation in November 2021 as a quasi-experiment to study its impact on house prices and rents in Leeds.Using a DiD approach on repeat sales and monthly rents,I compare property values near the HS2 station and proposed construction site before and after the announcement. Results show a 3.6%decrease in house prices and a 3.9%decline in rents near the station, while properties near the construction site experienced a 2.4%increase in prices and a 2.1%rise in rents. This is the first paper to analyse the HS2 cancellation effect using panel data methods.
文摘Improving the rail transport security requires development and implementation of neoteric monitoring and control facilities in conditions of increasing speed and intensity of the train movement and high level of terrorist threat. The paper states that joint using of both these means gives new possibilities in improving railroad security.
文摘Transport is the lifeblood of a nation’s economy. Finally, we suggest the green transport infrastructure of Taiwan should be mainly comprised of rail transport, electric motorcycles, MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), and EV (Electric Vehicles).
文摘A new double-circuit tram route planned in Warsaw(Vmax=70.0 km/h),running through the Praga Po?udnie district from Waszyngton Avenue(Washington Avenue)to Goc?aw loop(total length of about 3.5 km),is designed to reduce the existing road load in this area of the access routes from outside Warsaw to the center of the capital,as well as to improve the conditions of transport service in the areas of Saska K?pa,Mi?dzynarodowa housing estate,Kepa Goclawska and Goclaw, thereby increasing the use of public transport in Warsaw. This paper concerns the first part of the planned investment—a new tram route on the section between Waszyngton Av.(Washington Avenue)and Stanów Zjednoczonych Av.(United States of America Avenue)in Warsaw, along the historical Exhibition Channel in its immediate vicinity(Saska Kepa).Specialists-constructors(Tramwaje Warszawskie Llc.)cooperated with landscape architects(Landscape Architecture Department,Warsaw University of Life Sciences—SGGW),in accordance with contemporary canons of sustainable urban development. They aimed at restoring proper proportions in the use of the area, taking into account functional aspects(optimal communication and various forms of recreation),natural aspects(preserving valuable vegetation and enriching resources),landscape aspects(“recovering”water as the main element of space)and reconstructing connections with adjacent areas(residential areas and allotments).
文摘A transport infrastructure is not only a trip provision system but a public facility that generates value for companies and for the society through expanding markets or developing cities, creating another perspective for new investments, as well as its own financing. Applied to the evaluation of the impacts on the surrounding regions of one of the most significant Brazilian transport projects, the improvement and expansion of Belo Horizonte's metro, the provided value capture outcomes open more realistic perspectives for greater engagement of the Public Sector in such projects.
文摘Tourism has a positive impact on economic growth, and it is one of the rapidly growing sectors in Mongolia. The Mongolian government, focusing on the development of tourism and transportation since 1990,has made it possible for achieving continuously growing sustainable tourism.Sustainable tourism is a way of maintaining a high level of tourist satisfaction while reducing adverse impacts on the environment. As transportation has been an integral part of the tourism industry, the purpose of this study is to examine the impact of transportation infrastructure,CO2 emission, and other classical demand factors on tourism flow in Mongolia by using a gravity model.Utilizing a panel data of tourists from 30 countries with the highest number of travel visits in Mongolia from 2002 to 2018,the study employs on panel co-integration analysis, aside from the conventional pooled ordinary least squares(OLS),fixed effects, and random effects estimators,to estimate the long-run relationship between Mongolian tourism flow and their respective determinants.According to the result of this study, the local transportation system and transportation investment have came out negative due to the underdeveloped transportation system. Moreover, the research indicates that carbon dioxide emission has a positive impact on tourism flow in the long-run.
