The total transverse forces on each of the two piles in the side-by-side arrangement and tandem arrangement are experimentally investigated in irregular waves and the total in-line wave forces are measured simultaneously. The statistical and spectral characteristics of the transverse forces are analyzed. The ratio of the transverse force on each pile in group to that on a single pile is defined as the transverse groupling-pile factor, KGL. Both the transverse coefficients CLG and KGL for each pile in array are varied with the relative pile distance and KC number and their relationships are presented in this paper. Also the ratio of the resultant wave froce of in-line force and transverse force to the in-line force and the vriation of the resultant coefficient are investigated. 展开更多

In the past three decades, numerous papers have bee n publishedon the dynamics of rotating discs. most of them have focused on the ma thematical modeling and solution for a specific interactive force, such as a n elastic force produced by a stationary spring or a damping force from a statio nary viscous damper. Few of them have looked into the instability mechanisms. This study has established a generalized approach to investigate the instability mechanisms that are involved in the interaction between a rotating and an arbit rary interactive force. An energy flux equation has been developed, which leads to the following conclusions: (1) The possibility of the occurrence of instability due to any interactive forc es may be identified based on the energy flux analysis, even without solving equ ations. (2) Instabilities will occur if the interactive forces are in phase with the vel ocity measured at the interactive point from the coordinates rotating with the d isc. (3) Instability cannot occur when a rotating disc is subjected to a stationary c onstant lateral force, but a stationary harmonic lateral force, a moving constan t lateral force or a moving harmonic lateral force may cause instability. (4) Conservative forces may only cause coupling instability associated with two modes, and non-conservative forces usually cause terminal instability where onl y one mode is involved. 展开更多

The problem of reflection and transmission of plane waves incident on the contact surface of an elastic solid and an electro-microstretch generalized thermoelastic solid is discussed. It is found that there exist five reflected waves, i.e., longitudinal displacement (LD) wave, thermal (T) wave, longitudinal microstretch (LM) wave and two coupled transverse displacement and microrotational (CD(I) and CD(II)) waves in the electro-microstretch generalized thermoelastic solid, and two transmitted waves, i.e., longitudinal (P) and transverse (SV) waves in the elastic solid. The amplitude ratios of different reflected and transmitted waves are obtained for an imperfect boundary and deduced for normal force stiffness, transverse force stiffness, and perfect bonding. The variations of amplitude ratios with incidence angles have been depicted graphically for the LD wave and the CD(I) wave. It is noticed that the amplitude ratios of reflected and transmitted waves are affected by the stiffness, electric field, stretch, and thermal properties of the media. Some particular interest cases have been deduced from the present investigations. 展开更多

The bubble plume is an important flow phenomenon, ubiquitous in many fields. The non-uniform bubbles in a plume are often simply considered as uniform and moving with a same slip velocity in an integral model. This study aims to have a better understanding of the behavior of the non-uniform bubbles in a plume. A set of experiments are conducted in a transparent water tank, in which the air plumes are generated through different injectors to vary the spectrum of the bubble size. The shadow images of the bubbles are simultaneously recorded with the illumination of a plane backlight. The algorithm used in the image analysis for tracing the bubbles is a newly developed multi-frame method based on the predictor-corrector method, with a good accuracy in estimating the size and the velocity of the overlapped bubbles based on the bubble shadow images. The bubbles are divided into several groups by their equivalent diameters with an interval of 0.5 mm. The spectrums of the bubble size and the void fraction are measured. It is found that the bubbles of different sizes show different dynamics features, resulting in a difference in the radial distribution. It is shown that the large bubbles gather in the center of the plume, while the medium bubbles spread the widest and even wider than the small bubbles. The difference can be explained by the effects of the transverse lift force and the amplitude of the bubble oscillation. 展开更多
