To solve the very high thermal load problem at the dump, two measures are taken to deal with the huge power density at the target. One is to enlarge the contact area between the beam and the target, and this is to be accomplished by expanding the beam profile at the target and using slanted target plates. The other is to produce a more homogenous beam profile at the target to minimize the maximum power density. Here the beam dump line is designed to meet the requirement of beam expansion and homogenization at 3 different energies (3.2 MeV, 5 MeV and 10 MeV), and the step-like field magnets are employed for the beam spot homogenization. Taking into account the fact that the space charge effects are very strong at such low beam energies, the simulations have included space charge effects and errors which show that the beam line can meet the requirements very well. In the meantime, the alternative beam design using standard multipole magnets is also presented.展开更多

Using physical simulation, numerical modeling and the in situ data, the differences between the apparent resistivity of low resistivity model obtained by transverse profiling method (TPM) whose electrode array is vertical to the profile and those by longitudinal profiling method (LPM) whose electrode array is parallel to the profile are analyzed, respectively. Our results show that the former has much marked amplitudes of anomaly. Therefore, TPM can be used to detect a strike fault more effectively and locate it more precisely, and is expected to be a new approach for detecting a sliding fault.展开更多

In this paper, we present an improved design of high repetition LW system for high average power free electron lasers (HAP FELs) and energy recovery linacs (ERLs). This improved LW utilizes the excess power of the photocathode drive laser, thus making itself much cheaper and simpler. The system main parameters are optimized with numerical calculations and Monte Carlo simulations, indicating that resolutions would be better than 100 ~m and scanning time less than 1 minute. Status of the experiment preparation is also presented.展开更多

The following points are shown through a comparison of the influences of the stationary and free states of the ship model on the measured results:(1) during the test, the ship attitude will change, specifically, the ship model will heave and trim,(2) the degree of freedom disturbs the processing of the pixel images enough to distort the subsequent image processing,(3) the stationary state of the ship model is the optimal mode for measuring the velocity distribution using the PIV device, and(4) if the changes must be considered, the man-made heaving and trimming may be pre-applied, and be made a corrected stationary mode. In addition, the momentum effect coefficient and the energy effect coefficient are calculated in a non-uniform inflowing state, and the related factors affecting the two coefficients are analyzed. The test results show that the pumping action of the waterjet creates a transverse vector in the cross-sectional speed, which increases the non-uniformity of the inflow. These results could help to establish the design requirements for a waterjet-propelled ship type.展开更多
