Most individuals with NGLY1 Deficiency display hyperkinetic movement disorders, including choreiform, athetoid, dystonic myoclonic, dyskinetic, and dysmetric movements. Developing a consistent and concise consensus on the classification and evaluation of tremors is essential to forward the research and treatment of tremors. It has also been reported that some individuals with NGLY1 Deficiency demonstrate tremor, but such tremor has never been formally investigated. The primary objective of this study is to determine if an individual with NGLY1 Deficiency demonstrates an identifiable tremor during a series of arm movements and, if so, describe the frequency and power characteristics of that tremor. Arm movement kinematics were obtained using a 16-camera Vicon system, and time series trajectory waveforms for three planes of a marker placed on the hand were developed. Custom MATLAB scripts were utilized to compute Fast Fourier Transformations of the data within the identified waveform segments. A mean frequency of 2.30 Hz (SD = 1.05) with a mean power of 5.02 |P1(f)| (SD = 4.63) suggests that our participant’s kinematic data did display a persistent tremor in both hands across all tasks and movement planes. Analyses of the reaching hand and the non-reaching hand suggest the participant displayed an action tremor in both postural and intention (kinetic) tremors. Future directions should include assessing additional individuals with NGLY1 Deficiency to determine if the tremor is a distinguishable disorder behavior. Additionally, evaluating other anatomical sites, such as the elbow, head, and lower limbs, would provide further insights into the characteristics of this tremor.展开更多

Hand tremor-suppression orthoses are noninvasive, wearable devices designed to mitigate tremors. Various studies have shown that these devices are effective, economical, and safe;however, they have drawbacks such as large weight, awkward shape, and rigid parts. This study investigates different types of tremor-suppression orthoses and discusses their efficiency, mechanism, benefits, and disadvantages. First, various orthoses(with passive, semi-active, and active mechanisms) are described in detail.Next, we look at how additive manufacturing(AM) has progressed recently in making sensors and actuators for application in tremor orthoses. Then, the materials used in AM are further analyzed. It is found that traditional manufacturing problems can be solved with the help of AM techniques, like making orthoses that are affordable, lighter, and more customizable. Another concept being discussed is using smart materials and AM methods, such as four-dimensional(4D) printing, to make orthoses that are more comfortable and efficient.展开更多

PD is primarily caused by a progressive loss of dopamine neurons in the nigrostriatal system that leads to widespread motor symptoms such as bradykinesia, rigidity, tremor and postural instability. ET typically involves a tremor of the arms, hands or fingers. No definitive test or biomarker is yet available for PD or ET, so the rate of misdiagnosis is relatively high. As tremor is a very common feature at the onset of both diseases, it is crucial to be able to characterize it. This is made possible using acce?lerometers to quantify the tremor amplitude and frequency. In this work we aim to find tasks involving upper limb movements that are suitable to modulate both types of tremor. Four tasks were tested, differing on whether the arms moved together or alternatingly and whether loads were added. Significant differences in tremor measures were found when patients were asked to perform simultaneous rapid arms movements with loads placed on their wrists. These results may allow the design of an efficient fMRI protocol for identifying the cortical circuits responsible for the modulation of tremor.展开更多

It typically involves a postural and motor tremor of the hands, head or other part of the body. Essential tremor is driven by a central oscillation signal in the brain. However, the corticospinal mechanisms involved in the generation of essential tremor are unclear. Therefore, in this study, we used a neural computational model that includes both monosynaptic and multisynaptic corticospinal pathways interacting with a propriospinal neuronal network. A virtual arm model is driven by the central oscillation signal to simulate tremor activity behavior. Cortical descending commands are classified as alpha or gamma through monosynaptic or multisynaptic corticospinal pathways, which converge respectively on alpha or gamma motoneurons in the spinal cord. Several scenarios are evaluated based on the central oscillation signal passing down to the spinal motoneurons via each descending pathway. The simulated behaviors are compared with clinical essential tremor characteristics to identify the corticospinal pathways responsible for transmitting the central oscillation signal. A propriospinal neuron with strong cortical inhibition performs a gating function in the generation of essential tremor. Our results indicate that the propriospinal neuronal network is essential for relaying the central oscillation signal and the production of essential tremor.展开更多

Statistics of the number of these tremors indicated that many tremors were likely to occur when large increases in temperature and/or wind speed during the period. This implied that the rapid increase in temperature enhanced a melting speed of cryosphere environment with generating seismic energy;the tremors were also excited by stormy conditions, associated with interactive resonance between sea-ices and oceanic swells. The characteristic tremors of harmonic overtones with strong amplitudes were explained by repetitive sources, suggesting inter-glacial asperities such as the collision of icebergs and fast sea-ice, calving of glaciers/ice-streams at the coastal environment of Antarctica. These high amplitude tremors occurred independently from other majority types of events, characterized by non-linear, small amplitude and weak signals at the stormy condition and rapid increase in temperature.展开更多

Gas-dynamic phenomena caused by rock mass tremors and rock bursts observed as transient states of air parameters in mining headings, are usually generated as a result of a change in the geometry of headings and the release of considerable amounts of gases. Particular significance is attributed to transient states caused by disasters, which are often accompanied by rapid incidents, presenting threats to the life and health of the underground crew.In Polish mining there are known examples of transient states of air parameters recorded during gasdynamic phenomena, e.g. tremors and rock bursts. The paper presents the case studies of rapid seismic incidents to show how records in mine monitoring systems broaden the knowledge about the transient states of air parameters in mining headings generated because of them.展开更多

Underground mining in this area takes place in a special environment with a high degree of risk of unpredictable event occurrence. Especially dangerous are phenomena that occur during the extraction of deposits at great depths in the environment of compact rocks. Deep underground mining violates the balance of these rocks and induces dynamic phenomena at the longwall life (in terms of distance) referred to as mine tremors. The sources of these tremors are located in layers characterised by high strength, especially in thick sandstone strata occurring in the roof of the mined seam. In the paper a discussion is presented about the influence of mining intensity (longwall face speed) on the location of mine tremor sources, both in the direction of longwall life (in terms of distance) and towards the surface. The presented material has been prepared basing on the results of tests and measurements carded out at the Central Mining Institute.展开更多

Programming of the stimulation parameters is important for maintaining the efficacy of deep brain stimulation. Voltage is consid- ered to be the most effective programming parameter. The present study is a retrospective analysis of six patients with Parkinson's disease (four men and two women, aged 37-65 years), who underwent bilateral deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, China, and who subsequently adjusted only the stimulation voltage. We evaluated motor symptom severity using the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale Part III, symptom progression using the Hoehn and Yahr scale, and the levodopa equivalent daily dose, before surgery and 1 and 2 years after surgery. The 2-year follow-up results show that rigidity and tremor improved, and clinical symptoms were reduced, while pulse width was maintained at 60 ps and frequency at 130 Hz. Voltage adjust- ment alone is particularly suitable for patients who cannot tolerate multiparameter program adjustment. Levodopa equivalent daily dose was markedly reduced 1 and 2 years after surgery compared with baseline. Our results confirm that rigidity, tremor and bradykinesia can be best alleviated by voltage adjustment. The trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (identifier: NCT01934881).展开更多

In order to examine a relationship between surface environments in particular cryosphere variation, the MODIS satellite images were utilized for comparison with the detected tremor events. Since a large volume of sea-ice was discharged during the April, together with several large icebergs passed through from the west to the east at northern edge of the fast sea-ice of LHB, it was expected to detect seismic tremors involving cryospehre dynamics. During the month, a total number of 49 tremor events including short duration ice shocks were identified. Majority of the events (N = 39) had their duration times more than 15 minutes, which were divided into both tremors and ice shocks on the basis of experienced definition at SYO. Cryospheric sources recorded by seismic tremors were classified into several origins (collision, calving, crevassing, crashing, etc.): “crevassing events” along the large cracks inside the fast sea-ice in LHB (04 April), “discharge events” of fast sea-ice from the Bay (07 April), “collision events” between iceberg and the edge of fast sea-ice (14 April), “crashing movement” between fragmentation of fast sea-ice and packed sea-ice (18 April), and other origins. In particular, strong amplitude tremors with harmonic overtones were assumed to be occurred independently from whether condition, because these overtone tremors were identified at less stormy days by comparison with infrasound data at SYO.展开更多

文摘Objective. To introduce the properties of Chinese type A botulinum toxin(CBTXA,made by Lanzhou Institute of Biological Products),and its long?term effect for focal dystonia and hemifacial spasm.Method.The purity and recovery of crude and crystalline toxin were tested.Long?term data from305patients with hemifacial spasm(HFS),blepharospasm(BS)and cervical dystonia(CD)were evalu-ated and subgroups of patients received CBTXA injections between1994and2000in at least six sepa-rate treatment sessions, with follow up for2~8years.The therapeutic results of the last session CBTXA injections were analyzed in comparison with the first session.Result.CBTXA purity was high[(2.55~2.60)×10 7 LD50/mgPr ,A260/A280≤0.55,high molecular substance accounted for99.2%of total proteins].Long term treatment with CBTXA in patients with focal dystonia and HFS was not associated with any decline in benefit, and efficacy may improve slightly with repeat treatments.CBTXA is an excellent long-term treatment of HFS,BS and CD.Conclusion.We conclude that Chinese type A botulinum toxin is of botulinum toxin therapy quality standard according to results obtained from the basic study and long?term clinical applications. The re?injection of CBTXA significantly improves the quality of life of most patients and is a safe, effective and comparatively economical treatment for patients with focal dystonia and HFS.
文摘During the period from October 2014 to March 2015, a total number of 82 seismic tremors and 66 ice-quakes were identified in both three-component short-period seismographs (HES) and broadband seismographs (STS-1) at Syowa Station (SYO), Antarctica. These high amplitude tremors occurred independently from other majority types of events, characterized by non-linear, small amplitude and weak signals at the stormy condition and rapid increase in temperature.

文摘Similar to coal, rock and gas ejections, rock mass tremors and rock bursts are among the most serious natural hazards accompanying the underground extraction of coal. The paper presents the case studies of rapid seismic incidents to show how records in mine monitoring systems broaden the knowledge about the transient states of air parameters in mining headings generated because of them.
文摘The Upper Silesian Coal Basin is one of the most active mining areas in the world in respect of seismicity. The presented material has been prepared basing on the results of tests and measurements carded out at the Central Mining Institute.

文摘Deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus is recognized as the most effective treatment for moderate and advanced Parkinson's disease. The trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (identifier: NCT01934881).

文摘Parkinson’s disease(PD)is a very common neurodegenerative disease that occurs mostly in the elderly. There are many main clinical manifestations of PD,such as tremor, bradykinesia, muscle rigidity, etc.Based on the current research on PD,the accurate and convenient detection of early symptoms is the key to detect PD.With the development of microelectronic and sensor technology,it is much easier to measure the barely noticeable tremor in just one hand for the early detection of Parkinson’s disease. In this paper,we present a smart wearable device for detecting hand tremor,in which MPU6050(MIDI Processing Unit)consisting of a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer is used to collect acceleration and angular velocity of fingers.By analyzing the time of specific finger movements,we successfully recognized the tremor signals with high accuracy.Meanwhile, with Bluetooth 4.0(Bluetooth Low Energy,BLE)and networking terminal ability, tremor data can be transferred to a monitoring device in real time with extremely lowenergy consumption. The experimental results have shown that the proposed device(smart ring)is convenient for long-term tremor detection which is vital for early detection and treatment for Parkinson’s disease.
文摘Characteristics and statistics of seismic tremors occurring during April 2015 were investigated by using short-period and broadband seismographs deployed at Syowa Station (SYO), in the Lützow-Holm Bay (LHB), East Antarctica. In particular, strong amplitude tremors with harmonic overtones were assumed to be occurred independently from whether condition, because these overtone tremors were identified at less stormy days by comparison with infrasound data at SYO.
