An incrementally nonlinear hypoplastic constitutive model was introduced, which was developed without recourse to the concepts in elastoplasticity theory such as yield surface, plastic potential and the decomposition of the deformation into elastic and plastic parts. Triaxial drained tests on rockfill were conducted on a large scale triaxial apparatus under two types of stress paths, which were the stress paths of constant stress ratio and the complex stress paths with transitional features. Motivated by the effect of stress path, the Gudehus-Bauer hypoplastic model was improved by considering the parameter variations with different ratios of stress increment. Fitting parameter a presents a piecewise linear relationship with cosine of the slope angle θ determined by instantaneous stress path. The improved hypoplastic model can present peak stress increasing and volumetric strain changing from dilatancy to contractancy with the increase of transitional confining pressure σ3t and the decrease of slope angle θ of stress path. Compared with the test data, it is shown that the model is capable of fully considering the effect of stress path on rockfill. 展开更多

The state of clean sand was mainly dependent on its void ratio(density)and confining stress that greatly influenced the mechanical behavior(compression, dilatancy and liquefaction)of clean sand.Confirming whether the confining stress was a state variable of sand required precise element tests at different confining stress, especially the tests under very low confining stress whose test data were very limited. In this study,static-dynamic characteristics of clean sand was comprehensively investigated by a unified test program under low and normal confining stress ranging from 5 to 98 kPa,under monotonic/cyclic and drained/undrained conditions, together with the literature available data under confining stress of 1.0 to 3.0 MPa.For monotonic loading tests, the contraction/dilation phase transition was observed for loose sand at low confining stress, and dilatancy angles were stress-dependent.In addition, the liquefaction resistance was observed to increase with reducing of confining stress, and the axial strain varied from compressive to dilative when confining stress increased.Special attention was also paid to the enhancement effect of membrane, and it was observed that its influence on the test results was limited. In addition, the experimental results were proved reliable by reproducibility. 展开更多

This research objective is to propose a co-valorization of powdered tuff, containing a slight amount of clay and dune sand, by mixing the two substances at different rates such as 0%, 5%, 15%, 25% and 35% of sand. The adapted criteria formulas are those recommended by the technical Saharan road. The results of the proposed study showed that "tuff-sand" mixtures are denser with a lower optimum water content modified proctor, the fine rate decreases together with the plasticity index, whereas the bearing index (CBR: California bearing ratio test) increases. The intrinsic characteristics, cohesion and sensitivity of mixtures with respect to compactness are almost identical to those oftuffwithout addition. The optimal adapted sand incorporation rate is estimated at 25% at 96% of compactness. Under these conditions, the amount of fines decreases from 40% to an acceptable level of 25% and the plasticity index from 16.2 to 12. The compaction water content decreases by 36% and the CBR (bearing index) increases by 30% and the compressive strength and sensitivity, according to compactness, of the elaborated material are almost identical to those oftuffwithout addition. 展开更多
