Intake pond of the water delivery system is a requisite component of thermal or nuclear power plant in which sediment frequently deposits due to the reduction of the flow kinetic energy. Impinging jet was equipped in a nuclear power plant in China and an effective function of dredging was evident. However, little attention has been paid to the mechanism of this application case. In response to the demands of the engineering design, this paper presents the results of computation and laboratory study on the normal impinging jet in cross open channel flow. The computations are performed for the jet to corssflow Reynolds number ratio R varying from 0.1 to 0.74. The flow pattern and turbulent structure are obtained for necessity of practical applications to the further study of the impinging jet effects on the sediment transportation.展开更多
